How a tactical change affects Salah’s Wildcard credentials

Liverpool’s formation change earlier this season holds the key to whether Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) deserves a place in Wildcard squads for Double Gameweek 34.

After going six Premier League matches without a goal, the Egyptian finally found the net against Southampton in Blank Gameweek 33 – just in time to cause a dilemma for managers overhauling their teams.

Judging by the relief he showed at St Mary’s on Friday night, there is a case to be made that Salah could now return to his incredible points-scoring form from earlier in the campaign.

However, we have uncovered a few tactical factors that could have a bigger impact on his chances of impressing between Gameweek 34 and the end of the season.

As we have used data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members’ Area, only members can read on to enjoy our analysis.

Is having both Jota and Jimenez overkill?

Jimmy is great and Jota is OOP (basically) I don't think it's overkill.

    4.1 ITB

    Lloris/Ryan
    Kola, Duffy, Dunk, Valery, Cathcart
Sterling, Son, Tielemans, Siggy (1 week punt), JWP
    Kane, Vardy, Jimmy

Should I keep Vardy and Tielemans for DGW or transfer them out now before the Newcastle game.

Thoughts on this WC team? BB in GW35, TC uncertain, 0.1 ITB.

    Foster - Ryan
    Laporte - Robertson - Trippier - Duffy - Valery
    Sterling - Mane - Eriksen - Jota - JWP
    Kane - Jimenez - Deeney

    Thanks guys!

Think I'm almost set on the below WC team unless anyone can recommend any changes?

    Ryan Foster
    TAA Duffy Valery Doherty Cathcart
    Sterling Mane Eriksen Son Jota
    Kane Deeney Jimenez

The plan would be to roll the FT in GW35 and then for GW36 go Jota & Catchcart > CHO & Laporte to upgrade my defence. Thoughts?

      Like it.
That's one of my options as well (to have both Eriksen and son). Alternative is to get jwp instead of son and upgrade defence

Prefer Murray 34 and Deeney 35. If you’re set on just one I’d definitely have Murray. The track record of sides making the cup who are safe is not great and Watford have loads of options so I don’t see a DGW there necessarily. Brighton have everything to fight for.

Jota feels like a keeper to me - I’d look to offload a Spurs attacher for the upgrade.

It's not possible to save a transfer when using a chip, so you'll only have one FT in GW35 if you benchboost in 35.

Not much else to talk about tbh. On everyone's mind... Just shame there's so many repeated teams. Will be about 2 hours tonight when City Tottenham play where its ignored and then back tomorrow for the same. Maybe a few changes in teams if managers mention rotation or score is huge one way. Inevitable tbh

    No Kane wc Seriously considering.

    Foster Lloris
    Rob Doh Duffy Montoya Val
    Mane Delu Jota Eriksen Lucas
    Aguero Vardy Jimi

    1.8 Mil itb.

If I do decide on Kane, I can:

    A) Aguero, Lloris to Ederson, Kane
    B) Lucas, Vardy to Kane, JWP
    C) Eriksen, Vardy to Kane, Bilva

Do like the look of Aguero, Kane and Jimi tbh

I'm thinking Lindelof as will keep him for Hudds and Cardiff
I was originally looking at Kola for attacking returns but worried he may get rotated now
Can't see many better options in the 5.0 and below bracket as will already have Duffy AWB and Bednarek
Watford defenders don't appeal for me at all

    5. Bob Sacamano
      • 5 Years

Have the same dilemma, and can't go for players from Wolves, Watford, Brighton or Spurs, and can't afford Liverpool or City. Currently on Kolasinac if you see him as a midfielder rather than a defenders, but people seem to see him as a rotation risk now.

    Lloris - Leno
    Doherty - Cathcart - Valery - Bednarek - Yoshida
    Salah - Sterling - Son - Jota - Deulofeu

How many people are still in with a chance of winning FPL overall?

      Everyone has a chance

Some crazy stuff could happen. The whole league is sent off apart from someone who has a load of Fulham players and captained Rico for a triple captain hattrick and CS and 9 assists

Someone can easily gain 100 points+ on the leader just by having a pretty standard team with a few differentials. Someone going full differential can gain even more if they get lucky.

      1. TheDragon
        • 6 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

But you aren’t just beating the leader your got to beat everyone else above you too.

Catching up 100+ points in a League where you are in 100th position is completely different and much less likely than winning a league of 2 teams when you are 100+ behind.

        1. Brosstan
          • 9 Years

Yes that's right but I still think 100 points behind have a very possible chance if they dare to punt a bit. Little chance if they go template though.

I am 142 points off him sitting at 329th, and not that I think it will be overly likely but there is still a chance I could catch him, plus he doesn't have his TC left. Good captain picks with a few differentials, whilst he makes bad captain choices and it could all change around.

Fair play to the guy though, ever since GW12 he has never dipped lower than 336th!!

      1. TheDragon
        • 6 Years

I’d agree if all you had to do is catch him, but you don’t. You also have to catch everyone else ahead of you - infinitely harder

Oh yeah totally agree, but if you take him out of the equation then I am less than 100 points off the top, which I would class as achievable of surpassing all those people if things went your way... his extra 50 points on top of 2nd is a fairly mad amount to make-up, but still possible for anyone within 150-ish points of him I say

          1. TheDragon

Which do you think is a better pick?

    A) Deulo: ARS / hud, SOU (probably bench GW34, have for BB35)
    B) JWP : WOL/ new, wat (play GW34+35)

    Rest of team:

    Lloris, Foster
    Robbo, Laporte, Duffy, Dunk, Valery
    Sterling, Eriksen, Mané, Jota, XXXX
    Kane, Jimi, Deeney

    Thanks all!

Yes I had him for quite a few GWs and always delivered... unfortunately he mostly did so from my bench!

I feel Deulo is riskier but has a higher ceiling and better DGW fixtures.

Other question if I get JWP is who do I bench this week?! Deeney and Jota?

I could forget the Duffy, Dunk double up and switch Dunk to someone who I can easily bench this week (I.e Bennett/ Bedna). Then I’d only need to decide to bench one of JWP, Deeney, Jota, Robbo

With WC played for upcoming gw I am now presented with the dilemma of whether to BB35/TC36 or TC35/BB36.
Having made my WC transfers my bench will be the same whether be it 35 or 36. So essentially it’s brighton trio vs the tough double away matches or same Brighton trio vs NEW home on 36.

This ofc will allow me to TC a player on a dgw which otherwise would have been played on a Liverpool asset vs HUD on 36.
Am I nuts to even be considering this option?

Jimenez should play ahead of both Valery and Kolasanic although there's some case to be made for JWP to play ahead of all of them too.

I could play JWP in front of Valery...what do you think?

Murray this week and then switch to Deeney?

How many minutes you think Murray gets? Would be surprised if more than 120.

I prefer Deeney vs ARS and not using an FT.

        I think about that mark.
With those fixtures it could be great and can’t see me needing the transfer else where.

It could and I'd expect him to start vs BOU and that could be very tasty.

But how many minutes will Deeney get over the 2 weeks? And just how up for it will Watford be? Palace sank without trace when they made the final for instance.

That’s my plan b if I don’t go Kane and Kun.

The only downside is that it uses a transfer that makes Mo harder to get to for 36. But I’m contemplating Firmino gamble instead

This. Thinking Kane and Kun, maybe even then just Mane and Robo for 36 as Firminho would mean losing Jimi or one of 2 above. Salah would be hard to get in

Excited for Champions League this week! That illustration of Messi laughing at Rashford on Bleacher Report today is spot on - think Man Unity are going to get Messi'd again.

      I’m in between.

He’s still in but I’m tempted by Kun or Murray. Thing is I can see him scoring in pretty much all those tricky looking fixtures.

I can see a forward line of Vardy Kane and Jim killing it between now and seasons end. Were It no DGW that’s definitely where I would be going.

I did and have absolutely no regrets. Easy to get carried away by hauls against Fulham and Hudds, but Leicester arn't a free scoring team.

Who are you considering to be absolutely essential for the run in?

With min, motivation, form and fixtures in mind I think Jimenez makes a strong case if Wolves can keep focused. Pool defense offer quite a bit in Robbo and TAA. Pogba is interesting if he can stay on task. City are too much of a rotation threat and same with Spurs imho to really nail down 1 player as essential. Watford could be fantasy gold right up until GW38 if they are competing for spots in the final. Gunners poor away form is a concern.

    Who is on your list?

Wolves, Spurs, Pool and City in the main with some Brighton and Soton cheapies

    Thoughts:

    a) Eriksen / Jimi / Duffy
    or
    b) Son / Rash / Dunk
