Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

Got 1.4 ITB so could easily upgrade Doherty to Laporte, but I fancy Doherty to bag more points over the double.

Seeing Laporte in a lot of wildcards.

    Ryan
    Laporte, TAA, Dunk
    Sterling, Mane, Eriksen, Son
    Aguero, Jimenez, Deeney

    Subs: Foster, JWP, Doherty, Valery

Last decision is on whether to start JWP over Deeney, but edging towards Deeney given Arsenal’s poor away form.

Who do you think will find form and step up to score big this GW, and why?

Maybe someone who hasn't had a double digit score in a while, who has a series of no attacking returns, or has very low ownership.

Do you think it will be an already-established name in many of our sides or someone who is a major differential?

Have you seen something in a someone's play or in their stats to make you think they could be ready for a breakout GW?

The only appeal I see there is penalties. With Herrera out and Matic doubtful surely he'll still be playing quite deep?

I'd be more likely to punt on Martial, or even clear a forward spot for Lukaku/Rashford

      So confused. Help welcome!
      A/ Salah + Jota + Jonny
      or
      B/ Mane + KdB + Boly

I really don't trust KDB to start both games and Jota appears to be too good value at 6.1. But KDB has a high ceiling.
Salah starts to offer a nice differential and TC option down the line.

Who is a better option for the WC if you had to choose one?

      a) Pogba

      b) Lukaku

If you're on a WC then neither, but Lukaku has good stats against WHU I think

        Fodder such

        Foster
        Valery
        Dunk
        Højbjerg

Should net you more than any triple captain pick. Even if they only average 4 points each. If one of them returns anything over their 8 matches (assuming they all play both) then it's been a successful bench boost.

Is anyone going with Camarasa? I know Cardiff are awful but they have to fight to stay up and he is their talisman

Not for me personally, Cardiff are pretty poor and not sure they have the ability to get much better.

      Gtg ? Bench order right?

      Lloris
      Duffy-Dunk-VvD
      Salah-Eriksen-Martial-Son-Siggurdson
      Jimenez-Aguero

      Foster-Deeney-Doherty-Bednarek

Feeling bad to bench Deeney and Doherty but idk who to bench instead them ???

      1) Which Gk combo are you going for and why?
      2) Is it worth trippling up on brighton (duffy, dunk, murray) and then do dunk/murray >> holebas/deeney (-4) in gw35?
      3) Alternatively, have ryan, duffy and murray and just do murray > deeney in gw35. that would mean double brighton def in gw35 BB

      bottomed...

I'm screwed. Can you help me make the best of it?

      Fab
      Doh Perreira Robertson AWB Shaw
      Haz Mane Salah Madd Fraser
      Vardy Wilson Kamara

      0.9 ITB, 1FT

Shaw to Duffy seems a no brainer.
Then Haz or Salah to Son or Erikson for -4?

So I would be playing something like:

      Fab
      Doh Perreira Duffy
      Son/Erikson Mane Salah Madd Fraser
      Vardy Wilson

Sorry for the long post, cheers for any thoughts

Don't take too many hits when people are getting DGW players in. Duffy and Son/Erik will be fine I think.
