Scoutcast Episode 292 – Hindsight

The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

    Is this worth a -8:

Laca, Jota, Deeney > Kun, Long, Deulofeu

    OR

    Stick to a -4:
    Deeney & Duffy > Long & Cathcart

Then bring in VVD & Kun as my 3rd Pool & City spot

Kun will play one game, long might score you 1 point, and Deulofeu might not play at all

How about Ings instead. The -4 option.

Didn't expect the CL results to blow the wildcard teams wide open

So many thinking of taking hits right after wildcard. That's amazing!

I know... really it’s the FOMO with no Sterling. Wish I hadn’t bloody been swayed by Aguero after Kane injury and had stuck to my guns w Raheem instead and cheaper forwards

I'd be more tempted to strengthen the bench.
Harder games so 12 total mostly from Foster looks about the most to expect.

In the same difficult position my friend...

I would be kinda tempted by Martial eriksen to Sterling (someone) if you want sterling enough. Can’t decide if he’s worth ditching eriksen for though

Hard to decide isn’t it? Would mean I’m bench boosting 3 Brighton so might have to stick with Eriksen and go without Sterling.

Hey all... as with most it’s really about whether to try to jam Sterling in for a hit or not for the DGW... bearing in mind, I think I’ll want Salah in for GW36

    Lloris Foster
    Robertson Laporte Duffy Doherty Bednarek
    Mane Son Eriksen Pogba Højbjerg
    Aguero Vardy Jiménez

1FT, 0.2 ITB... am thinking Vardy and Eriksen out for Sterling/KDB and someone is a possibility (-4), but not really keen on any of the cheaper forwards, even Wilson that much.

Anything? Or would you save FT and hope Aguero is enough, with view to getting Salah for free w/ 2FT next week

They really don't have the depth if any of the player gets Injured . Can't risk it sure ?

It's a bigger risk going all in on the Champions league imo when they have much better odds of qualifying through their league position. Plus like you say, due to squad size, they don't rotate very much. They don't have much of a choice playing Alli, Eriksen, Son every game.

              1. The Overthinker

It'll be interesting to see how poche manages the minutes of eriksen, alli and son.

Saw their fixtures before the cl match, first one is a Derby against Westham which they can easily win . Second leg probably will be around the Bournemouth game.date yet to decided i reckon.

The players are professional footballers and I don't know think they'll have or should have any problem playing 3 times in 7 days.

Only worry for poche would be the injury

Yes but injuries are a risk, always, it doesn't prevent playing your best team when they are all fit

Fatigue is something else, that's where Spurs are quite good at getting the goals they need then managing games

    3. bigbudgie

Hard to predict but I really think a lot of their form and the magic of this season has been linked to the idea of momentum and the quadruple. Have a feeling that might be so devastating to their morale, and the next two games coming at them quick with Spurs at home and United away...I'm not sure they can just recover from that and go out all guns blazing. I do think Spurs will be emotionally tired too and would be very happy with a draw.

I made the ridiculous last minute decision on last weeks’ WC to swap Sterling and Kiko to Son and Laporte at the last minute.

I am now thinking of swapping back son to Sterling for a hit, but also looking at KDB as he has been excellent. (As has Sterling obviously) but you’ve gotta think sterling will get a rest. Just too hard to know. I’m confused!!

Yes it was. Time took to VAR the decision kill the momentum for city.

your team is definitely good enough to do it, I think it's a great plan. How gutted would you be if you didn't do it and Salah goes mental? Plus Salah TC will be very popular with those who have the chip, so would be a double blow not to have him

my gut says that a Liverpool triple up is more important than a City triple up over the next two fixtures for both clubs. So that might swing it for me to get Salah instead of Sterling. Have Laporte, Aguero, TAA, Mane

Reckon Salah is the one to go for? Thought much about Firmino?

My move was going to be Vardy to Firmino but now I think Salah is the one to get, he's looking back to his best and going without him as Captain in 36 is a huge risk I might not be prepared to take

For those with BB and TC, which one are you?

    1) Playing TC
    2) Playing BB
    3) Playing FH
    4) Playing WC
    5) no chip this week

2 for me. No Deeney and only one Brighton defender to worry about means I’m in an alright spot for it

True. But I will get rid 2 from those but it wouldn't be first time if player deliver after transfering out

    Weird one in LMS

Top scorer didn't use a chip and is the only one left without a BB.

Hi, what is the best options?
    Will BB this week

    A. Save FT / keep Vardy
    B. Vardy -> Firmino
    C. Vardy, Jota -> Ings, Mane (-4)

A will give more options for getting Liverpool attacker for 36.

    Lloris
    Robbo, Laporte, Duffy
    Sterling, Son, Erik, Jota
    Kun, Vardy, Jim
    [Foster, Doherty, Valery, CHO]

    Thanks
