Saïss and back-three return for Wolves as Chelsea recall fit-again Pulisic

Nuno Espirito Santo has reverted to a three-man defence and recalled a key defensive figure for tonight’s encounter with Chelsea in order to arrest a recent slide down the table.

The Wolves manager recently switched to a back-four, first out of necessity and then out of choice, with less than positive results.

Over four matches in that configuration produced a total of zero clean sheets and an average of two goals per game.

But 3-4-3 is back tonight with Romain Saïss (£5.1m) returning alongside Conor Coady (£4.9m) and Willy Boly (£5.5m), which keeps Max Kilman (£4.3m) on the bench.

Leander Dendoncker (£4.8m) and Ruben Neves (£5.2m) staff central midfield with João Moutinho (£5.2m) suspended while Fabio Silva (£5.2m) leads the line.

Daniel Podence (£5.4m) and Pedro Neto (£5.7m) are on the flanks for Wolves, with Adama Traoré (£6.1m) on the bench, ready to act as an impact substitute.

Chelsea fans have received a boost of their own as Christian Pulisic (£8.2m) makes a first Premier League start since Gameweek 11, only his fourth of the season.

His inclusion in the front-three means Timo Werner (£9.4m) faces another stint on the right-hand side flanking Olivier Giroud (£6.7m).

Mason Mount (£6.8m) and Kai Havertz (£8.3m) join N’Golo Kanté (£4.9m) in central midfield and Frank Lampard keeps faith with his back-four for the fourth league match in a row.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-3): Patrício; Saïss, Coady, Boly; Marçal, Neves, Dendoncker, Semedo; Podence, F Silva, Neto.

Chelsea XI (4-3-3): E Mendy; Chilwell, T Silva, Zouma, R James; Havertz, Kanté, Mount; Pulisic, Giroud, Werner.

    The problem with getting DGW players from now on in is that they may get dropped/injured/Covid etc.

    Ruins the entire purpose of DGW and the fun if that happens.

    Not a viable strategy in my book.

    Strike a DGW hard with a FH and maximise it with all possible info.

      Not going to even try and squeeze them in for those games. Many more dgws to come and I already have a decent squad. Not wasting FH either

    I don't have good enough bench players to bench boost this dgw. U can only really have them after a wildcard without having to mess up your team in the coming weeks just to try to fit them in. So seems like later doubles is best time for my bench boost. What about for everyone else?

    1. FPL Theorist
      • 4 Years

      My bench can't wait to get bench boosted. Would have given me an extra 23 points last week (Schmeichel 7, Soucek 9, Dias 6, Neco 1).

      Will weaken the bench after the DGW.

    With a Double Gameweek in GW19, and a Blank Gameweek in GW18, what are your chip plans?

    January fixtures:
    https://www.premierleague.com/news/1933136

    It does look like a decent team can be put together without chips, which means there will likely be some variety in the chip approaches.

    Will you be playing chips? Which, and why, and when? Do you think it's clear which strategy is best, or is it dependant on individual teams?

          1. Pinturicchio10

              Potentially. However, having had a very brief look at the fixtures around that time -gwk20- there doesn't look to be an obvious swing that could potentially warrant a WC. It looks to me like a couple of transfers could do the trick.

              I'll try but FTs are valuable and having around eight players will be perfectly fine, any more could require hits or force me into suboptimal players. I'll have double Spurs and triple City alongside a few others so I doubt I'll need many more, fixtures are barren.

          Roll out 7 players in 18 and hold on to SGW players with strong fixtures (kane son KDB dias) in 19 and maybe TC salah.

          Don't see much value in FH chip as already own 6 players playing in 18 (kane son KDB dias grealish DCL).

          The way I'm set up, FH GW18 is almost certain.

          I'll have 6 free transfers to play with to work dgw'ers in. Have 6 with a dgw as of now. BB GW19.

          * Those using FH in GW18 will only have 1 transfer for GW19 I think, so just be aware to use any frees before GW18.

          FH18 and BB19
          I'm gonna use my 6 FT's before GW18 to change:

          Vardy -> Kane
          KDB -> Salah
          Grealish -> DGW player
          Martínez -> DGW player
          Mr. Farrell -> DGW player
          Brewster -> DGW player
          Mitchell -> DGW player
          Lamptey -> DGW player

          maybe also downgrade Robertson to get enough moneyz!

          13 DGW players + Son & Kane with BB in GW19

          I think Burnley v Man U will be added to GW18, and Man City v Villa to GW19.

          If this happens then it should be easy to navigate them without chips. KDB, Dias, Bruno, Grealish, Martinez and a Burnley defender as the core team + Kane and/or Son because of Spurs nice single fixture in GW19. Then use the bench and a couple of transfer to get 3-4 players that are good in gw18 and 3-4 that are good in GW19.

          I think the chips will be needed for the later blanks and doubles due to The FA Cup.

            Free hit 18.

            Use transfers from now for bgw19. I have 2 transfers and likely bring in soucek and coufal this weekend

            Id still want to get son or kane from gw16

            Might bench boost 19. Can see me having 10 or 11dgw players - plus kdb and a spurs player. Likely take a hit or 2
            Brewster may need to be a bit of a make weight.

            My gw19 to potentially bb would be something like:

            Mccarthy johnstone
            Chilwell James dallas coufal kwp
            Salah kdb Bruno son soucek
            Dcl Bamford brewster

            This gives me 11 dgw players plus kdb son dcl and brewster

            Seems achievable with a couple of hits in gw19

              I'm doing the same. FH18 and BB19. With 6 transfers before I press the FH and with 1 transfer before GW19 I could get this BB team by only taking 1 hit at the moment. 14 DGW'ers + Son

              Meslier - Johnstone
              Robertson - Chilwell - Cresswell - Dallas - Bednarek/KWP
              Salah - Fernandes - Son - Bowen - JWP
              Ings - Bamford - Antonio

                A lot depends i guess on whether you keep kdb for dgw19 when he only has a single game - Palace at home.....

                Downgrading him obvs opens things up

              In fact Antonio could replace dcl for dgw19 if he is fit

          First thoughts are that jumping off SGW players like Kane (shu) and KDB (CRY) look like huge traps to me. I'll be tempted to keep KDB and move Kane to Vardy (SOU, CHE) but we all know twice as many games doesn't mean more points.

          Overall, for people like me who have used their 1st wildcard, it seems fairly ok to navigate.

          I have the likes of RJames, Chilwell, Dallas, Shaw, Salah, Bruno, KDB (1 game but a good game), Kane, Bamford... that's a good start.

          Over the coming weeks, on the chopping board will be Podence, Stones, Martinez, Brewster and Grealish with an eye on DGW replacements such as Soucek, Coufal, Meslier, Adams and Bowen.

          What are the chances of further BGWs and DGWs towards the end of the season? I assume that these will still happen, so it then becomes about which time you reserve use of your FH/TC/BB?

          still got a WC to use so will influence chip use but also a big DGW this early in the season is a new twist.
          Late DGWs can see you go a bit crazy as there's usually only a few GWs left.
          This one needs an exit strategy as well with such a big gap until the ideal time to use the 2nd WC.

        What is in gw 18 as it looks like half of teams have no match in it?

        Adama Traoré is just a hype player. Can’t ever get a run in the team.

        Jota couldn’t get a run either but was worth the hype.

        For some reason Wolves have gone backwards this season.
