Scout Picks

Triple Gameweek 35 Scout Picks features three Man United assets

A Manchester United triple-up forms the spine of our Triple Gameweek 35 Scout Picks.

The Red Devils have three fixtures between Sunday and Thursday, so we have included three of their best assets accordingly.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, Leicester and Crystal Palace have each supplied two players to the best XI for Triple Gameweek 35.

As ever, we line up in the 3-4-3 formation and come in at £82.6m, £0.4m inside our £83.0m budget.

Goalkeeper

Vicente Guaita (£4.8m) makes a rare appearance in the Scout Picks off the back of Crystal Palace’s appealing pair of Triple Gameweek 35 fixtures. They face the division’s lowest scorers in Sheffield United, who are in the bottom four for shots inside the box alongside Southampton over the last six matches.

Defenders

Who has the best and worst FPL fixtures for the Run-In?

Saints also face Liverpool, arguably boosting Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s (£7.6m) defensive credentials while a Thursday-night meeting with Manchester United is unlikely to yield many goals based on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s usual tactics in the bigger matches. Meanwhile, during his last six, no Premier League defender has created more big chances than Alexander-Arnold.

Timothy Castagne (£5.8m) has recently become a key component of Leicester’s attack considering, among the Foxes’ players, only their centre-forwards and Ricardo Pereira have touched the ball in the box more often than him over the last six Gameweeks. The Belgian is, of course, much more likely to start twice in Triple Gameweek 35 and has 22 points in his last three outings.

Harry Maguire (£5.5m) is the most nailed-on Manchester United defender for Triple Gameweek 35. Since the Red Devils resumed European competitions, the centre-back has played every available Premier League minute from Gameweek 24 to Gameweek 34. Solskjaer’s men have conceded just three goals across their last six, the joint-best in the Premier League.

Midfielders

No top-flight player has produced more shots in the box than Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) over the last six matches, suggesting he will get plenty of opportunities against Southampton and even Manchester United in Triple Gameweek 35. Saints are inside the division’s bottom three for big chances conceded over the same period while the Red Devils could be suffering with fatigue by the time they host Liverpool on Thursday, having already played two games in three days before that.

Three matches for Bruno Fernandes (£11.5m) in Triple Gameweek 35 make it very hard to look past the premium midfielder in the Scout Picks. While there are doubts that he will start three times this round, the Red Devils do have the luxury of a four-goal lead against Roma in the semi-finals of the Europa League as well as no fixture in Blank Gameweek 36. Meanwhile, Fernandes has started every league match since Manchester United’s European campaign resumed in February and, over the last six, is top among all midfielders for expected goal involvement (xGI).

Mason Greenwood‘s (£7.2m) versatility and ability to do damage from the bench has helped him get into the Triple Gameweek 35 Scout Picks. Over the last six matches, he is top among all colleagues for shots in the box, shots on target and goals scored.

Wilfried Zaha (£7.2m) has supplied two attacking returns in his last four starts since coming back from injury. Crystal Palace’s next two opponents, Sheffield United and Southampton, are two of the three worst sides for conceding big chances in the last six.

Forwards

Since Gameweek 29, no Premier League player has been afforded more big chances than Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.5m). Meanwhile, West Ham and Aston Villa combine for a total of zero clean sheets over their last six matches.

Ollie Watkins (£6.5m) has produced either a goal or assist in each of his past five Premier League appearances, making him a useful addition for the Triple Gameweek 35 Scout Picks.

Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.3m) has become a virtual auto-include in the Scout Picks in recent weeks. Since Gameweek 24, he has notched up nine goals and two assists, suggesting he can still offer something against Newcastle and Manchester United in Triple Gameweek 35.

Substitutes

  • Edouard Mendy (£5.2m)
  • Lucas Digne (£6.1m)
  • Tyrick Mitchell (£3.8m)
  • Anwar El Ghazi (£5.2m)

          A. No attacking potential and going to concede in both. 3 points.
          B. No clean sheets. Some limited attacking potential. 4 points.
          C. Wildcard and explosive. Possible to have minutes managed. 10 points or 1.
          D. Mr Reliable. Fluke blank last time out. If Spurs score, he's involved more often than not. 4-12 points likely.

It's not crazy. If you look at PPM (in games that a player plays at least 60 mins (and double it for ESR & Targett)), it looks something like this.

            Smith Rowe 7.2
            Targett 7.4
            Bale 10.0
            Kane 7.3

You might think Kane is likely to score more, but it's far from certain.

If you want to back Bale over Kane, then it's damage limitation and there's clear logic in that. Those numbers support your argument there.

But putting Kane 3rd sub, when he is fully fit is the stuff nightmares are made of. I would understand it if those doubling were not fodder, but neither A or B have decent fixtures and have literally zero upside.

Upside is points. There're no points that are better than other points. It seems 'upside' is a euphamism for 'higher ceiling', which I don't buy into in general. High extremes must added to low extremes to create a total/average score.

I think ESR & Targett are likely to get 4-12 points too. It's more likely than outside of that range imo.

Plus Spurs play Leeds, who I could argue ahave played well, pretty solid, in general , over the past 6 games. Can't say the same for Everton, and Untited have a crazy schedule to navigate. West Brom are the biggest shambles of all these opponents. I'll keep thinking about it. Cheers

I kind of see your point, using stats. But this is a great example of when stats clearly don't give the real story. Based on that, you're saying ESR and targett are on par as an FPL asset with Kane. The rest of us know that's ridiculous, and clearly Kane is the best FPl asset in the game. I'm sure I could find a bunch of stats to back this up but I cba. Get your point but seems like you're missing the obvious.

For me bale and kane should be playing, or they should be sold for a dgw or tgw player. Makes no sense having that money on your bench in a week like this.

I am saying exactly that. On a DGW for those players. I don't see an argyment against that in your reply though...? I use averages to help make decisions because they bend us away from romantic biases towards sensible decisions. I can't see anything more obvious than that. What kind of stats would you look for to challenge this idea?

                  Recent form. And points.

Villa are poor defensively of late and against tricky opposition. Not the same side as your averages suggest. Look at the last 6-8 weeks. Man Utd can score plenty, as do Everton away so would anticipate even minus points being possible. Targetts last 6 games has scored 2, 1, 1, 0, 2, 0. Averaging 0.75 ppg.

Arsenal are abysmal and proved so tonight. Against Chelsea who just don't concede goals. Smith Rowe in his last 6 games has scored 2, 2, 1, 2, 1, 1. Averaging 1.125 ppg.

Both players essentially have SINGLE gameweeks, not doubles.

Of course form is important. I might end up going for Spurs players with this in mind.

Last sentence doesn't make sense, though. Regardless of how many points they get, they play twice. Unless they don't. But they probably will. Or unless the scoring system gave 0 points for appearance and they were guaranteed not to score other points. We're it doesn't and they're not.

I'm arguing against the idea that Kane is the only option, and the logic that getting the most points so far this season means he will score more than the other players on this list this GW. And the idea that considering otherwise is crazy. Or the lack of an argument in some of the replies here. (consider the amount of untested/biased assumptions in your ABCD reply to me, for example).

Anyway, I must go to sleep now. Thanks for your input

    Martinez, forster

    Rudiger, shaw, phillips, castagne, mitchell

    Bruno, salah, mount, son, lingard

    Nacho, kane, bamford

2 fts, 0.1itb and I will only have 8 starters next week. Any suggestions? Greenwood is tempting but that would be another player without a game next week

Maguire has the best chance of starting all 3 I’d say

Would think the United fullbacks get rotated at some point. Today's match both fullbacks subbed at half time to manage minutes.

Best combo here for dgw35 and beyond. Will fh36.

    A: Digne + Zaha + Kane
    B: Digne + DCL + Kane (-4)
C Jota + DCL + Vardy (-4) but would mean getting rid of kane and finding a way back for him in gw 36

Scared of Salah. Everyone around me has got him. I used wildcard last week to BB this week and can't find a logical way to get him in. Guess I'm best to leave it and hope salah has a bad dgw

Is Leno + Forster combo too risky for BB?
    Basically I'm asking:
    a. Leno > Henderson (-4)
    b. Welbeck > Benteke (-4)
    c. Keep Leno and Welbeck

maybe b otherwise c. ddg may get a game?

I'm mostly worried about Leno not getting any games, he bit my ass multiple times. You reckon Leno plays?

    A. Kane to dcl, rudiger to maguire
    B. Son to sigurdsson, rudiger to lindelof

    Last decision (Maybe :))

If I had to pick 1 then A. Don't like B and would prefer to lose Son over Kane

If Grealish is still out then yeah I think he is a good pick. Prefer him over JWP and Zaha

Thoughts on Son and Periera to Jota and Greenwood? I want to use both FTs before FH36 and set the team for 37-38

    2FT 1.7ITB FH36
    Mendy
    TAA Rudiger Shaw
    Salah Bruno Son Lingard Pereira
    Kane Nacho
    (Forster Holding Davis Dallas)
