Mark Sutherns’ FPL Gameweek 38 preview and transfer plans

The one and only Mark Sutherns is back to survey the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) landscape in our latest exclusive video for Premium Members of Fantasy Football Scout.

Mark is joined by Luke Williams to look ahead to the final Gameweek of the season.

“Mild panic” is setting in as injuries and rotation risks threaten to derail what is a juicy-looking Gameweek 38, with the pair discussing the merits of taking hits on the final weekend.

The Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) to Son Heung-min (£11.2m) move also dominates discussion as Luke and Mark discuss their own team, captaincy and transfer plans for Gameweek 38.

The pair recorded their video earlier on Friday and you can watch it via the embedded player below.

Free seven-day trials are still available for non-subscribers, which you can get here.

    Bottomed...
I'm 29 points clear in 1 ML and 195 in another. Sitting at 108k OR.

Almost seems pointless taking a hit this week, gutted really!

    How would this -8 look?

    Zaha, Sterling, Richarlison - Out
    Bowen, Diaz, Vardy - In

    No Citeh attacking cover!

    FH 38. Thoughts?

    Dubravka
    Robertson Cancelo Sanchez James
    Son (c) Bowen Maddison Mount
    Kane Lukaku
    ----------------------------------------------------
    4.0 Brownhill Tsimikas Gelhardt

Obviously Sanchez seems like too much of a budget option but he did score vs. Norwich in the reverse fixture. He has a goal threat.

    Thoughts?

Lukaku likely to play? He had 77 mins on Thursday.

Think Lukaku is a punt too far with Havertz back on deck. I’d prefer Vardy or Toney. You could then also upgrade your 1st sub in case of surprise no shows.

He has been so close to goal involvements recently and then got one last game, and I think he will start (Bamford off the bench at best you would imagine), and it's in a must-win game, so yeah seems a better bet than Tsimi who gets a 1 point cameo at most. He's second on my bench right now anyway.

I've had that bug and the fever was worse than my Covid-19 but over within 18 hours.

It spreads though so there's a risk to the squad. It's not great and does last a few days once you've shaken the worst off.

I have 3.7 mil ITB and VVD who I can do without.

    I don't really want who I have:
    Watkins Richa Zaha
    I would like to own.

I'm fairly sure Nketiah starts and Lacazette comes on for 20 minutes or something like that. Leno could get a send off too, if we have 3rd sub available and are winning comfortably. I doubt Ramsdale will be benched just because of that though.

    3. Cantonesque
      • 3 Years

Result is too important for sentimentality like starting a guy for his last game, surely. Doesn't mean Arteta might not have tactical reasons or training ground insight that makes him start Laca, but if he does it won't be for the "last game" reason. Odds probably still favour Nketiah start.

I’d you are taking a -4 hit to get Toney and benching Richarlison then my thoughts are
If richarlison also plays a full 90 mins and just gets 2 points you are effectively 6 points down . Do your needing Toney to score 1 goal just to really break even and hope
Then richarlison who you have benched doesn’t get a goal or assist. If so you are in the mud

Narrow lead in ML and rival has Maddi and Mount, which i don’t, but zero spurs whereas I have triple spurs attack.

    Thoughts on the following moves?

    A) Cash + Kulu to Sessegnon and Mount for -4 (bench Richrlison)
    B) Cash to Alonso (play Richarlison)

I would stick....the triple spurs attack could easily out score mount

Looking at same move as A. Could backfire though… risk v reward.

      A. would be an easy call if only we thought Mount was nailed, that's the problematic variable here.

Worry with Chelsea is their league position can't change and their opponent's result doesn't affect any other team so the "honour the league" reason for fielding a proper team is not relevant. Why would a manager not take that chance to have a look at some kids. Would be malpractice not to. Makes the lineup extraordinarily unpredictable.

Exactly my thought! Then again Tuchel may want to give him the chance to end the season on a high instead of the missed pen in fa cup final?

Yeah the possibilities and permutations are endless, that's why this game is so great and also such a nightmare at the same time. Would be great if we just got some team news before deadline!

Sorry just noticed the bit where it would be blocking a rival, which is a bit of weight on the scale for the Mount transfer I guess. I am playing the blocking game this week and bringing in players on FH that may not play purely for blocking purposes. But that's easier to contemplate when it's bot for a hit.

It is mainly to block my rival, but I do also fancy Sess over Kulu given returns in case of a 0-0 result.

        Alternatively I could just do
        C) Kulu to Maddi for free

Sess is a great option for sure (although now there is this new thing about Spurs players all getting sick as dogs). But if your focus is defending a narrow ML lead then you should ignore him unless you think your rival is getting him, right?

But he is definitely a great makeweight if needing funds for a blocking move that concerns you more.

Would have have any opinions on a query I posted below? It didn't get any traction:

Dubravka - De Bruyne - Diaz
          ...or ...
          Schmeichel - Salah - Barnes

He could well be going for Sess yes given that spurs has a plum fixture and he wouldn’t want to go for the players I have to catch up.

I would definitely prefer the first option given KDB and city coverage. Also I fancy Diaz just as much as Salah (given the uncertainty)

    Team for 38
My only dilemma is play Kulu or Toney .
I do have son and Kane

I also know my rival in mini league in mini league has Kulu but not Toney , so maybe worth the punt for a player he doesn’t have to try and make a difference . What makes it worse though I’m a Leeds fan so it’s like
Betting against my own team .

Dubravka - De Bruyne - Diaz
    ...or ...
    Schmeichel - Salah - Barnes

Considered purely in isolation, which of those gets more points.

    Appreciate any thoughts!

Salah would be big captain candidate - otherwise on Son I suppose, thought that would be a much easier call if Spurs were at home.

    Schmechel
    Trent Cancelo Laporte Alonso
    Kdb Couthino* Zaha* Saka
    Vardy Nketiah

    Foster Richarlison Cash kdh

No spurs, could be bad. But trying to diff some last gw.

    A: zaha + Couthino -> Diaz + Mount - 4
    B Couthino -> Mount
    C: get some spurs
    D: something else

Shared Top in ML and rival has same point (Both 1 FT - none chips left)

I used my FT : Salah to Son
    Have 1,7 ITB

    Schmeichel
    Trent - Alonso - Gabriel - Cancelo
    Son - Kulu - Saka - KDB
    Jesus - Nketiah

    Foster - Richarlinson - Gordon - Mykolenko

    Rivals team:
    Schmeichel - (Foster)
    Trent - James - Coady - Cancelo - (Holgate)
    Son - Kulu - Saka - Jota - (Gordon)
    Jesus - Kane - (Richarlinson)
    0.1 ITB and 1 FT

Should i do more transfers and take a hit? Or stick with my team?
    Consider:
    Myko to James/Matip (-4)
    Richarlinson to Toney (-4)
    Gordon to 6.3 (-4)

      Seems Kane vs KDB mostly.
He will try copy your best player he does not have but he cannot reach Kane. Visa versa for you.

Looking for a differential upgrade, what appeals most:

    A). Amartey > Alonso
    B). Amartey> Sessegnon
    C). Ramsey > Maddison

    Ramsdale
    Laporte Cancello TAA James Amartey
    Mount Saka Son(C) KDB
    Richarlison

    Foster, Weghorst, Ramsey, Gelhart
