PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 27

Our player picks for PlayON, the weekly Fantasy Football game, are rolled out again this Friday lunchtime. We’re on the lookout for potential bargains in our assessment of this week’s PlayON Price List – a couple of our headliners are recently free from suspension, whilst the other two are back in contention after recent injuries:

If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings – there’s a £500 guaranteed pot on offer this week – enter it here .

Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 54% win rate up to this point. You can also create an open challenge against anyone else on the site – just click the amount you want to play for and the number of slots (number of people who can accept your challenge) on the one-on-one page .

For a more in depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.

Goalkeeper – Allan McGregor
Having served a three-match suspension earlier this month, the Tigers’ number one made an immediate return to the starting line-up for Monday evening’s FA Cup clash with Brighton. Steve Harper’s short stint between the sticks looks over, then, with McGregor – priced at a mere 6.9m – looks poised to get the nod again as Hull pay visit to a Cardiff side that have failed to score in four of their six league encounters under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. West Brom’s Ben Foster is available for just 7.4m and has a home encounter against Fulham, who roll up to the Hawthorns for Felix Magath’s first match in charge. If you’re willing to spend a little more, Joe Hart is priced at 9.0m for City’s home clash with a Stoke side that have drawn blanks on three of their last four away games.

Defender – Daniel Agger
Back in the Liverpool XI for last Sunday’s FA Cup trip to Arsenal, the fit-again Dane sets you back just 7.2m in this week’s PlayON Player Price List. Agger welcomes Swansea to Anfield and, bearing in mind the visitors have only notched twice in their last five road trips, his chances of a clean sheet look solid. If you fancy West Brom to keep out Fulham and are looking to double up on Foster, Billy Jones has recovered from injury this weekend and takes up just 7.7m of your budget. Further up the price bracket, Nacho Monreal is set to get the nod at left-back for Arsenal’s home encounter with Sunderland after Kieran Gibbs limped out of Champions League action during the week – priced at 9.4m, the Spaniard offers the cheapest route into a defence that has conceded once in their last nine at the Emirates.

Midfielder – Samir Nasri
The Frenchman climbed off the bench in last weekend’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea to cement his injury comeback with a goal. Utilised as a sub in the midweek Champions League loss to Barcelona, Nasri is expected to be handed a starting role as City entertain Stoke at the Etihad – available for a mere 7.2m, he looks excellent value, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side expected to run riot against the travel-sick Potters. Marc Albrighton has impressed in his last two appearances for Villa and seems to have persuaded Paul Lambert to keep faith with his creative talents on the right flank – he looks a decent budget enabler at just 7.6m for the trip to Newcastle. The 8.8m-priced Oscar was utilised as a late sub for Chelsea’s clash at City last weekend but is likely to be unleashed from the start against Everton as Jose Mourinho looks for the win that will keep his side at the summit.

Forward – Loic Remy
Available for selection after a three-match suspension, the Newcastle frontman is set to be immediately reinstalled to the starting line-up against Villa. Alan Pardew is desperate to arrest a run of three straight defeats and the return of top scorer Remy is crucial to the Magpies chances on Sunday – coming in at 10.6m, the Frenchman will fancy his chances of breaching a backline that have conceded at least twice in five of the last six. If you’re willing to spend big up top, Edin Dzeko is difficult to ignore for City’s showdown with Stoke. The big Bosnian sets you back 11.7m and, like Nasri, is favourite to start after being utilised off the bench in Tuesday’s defeat to Barcelona. West Brom’s Victor Anichebe has scored two and assisted one of his side’s last three goals – at 11.1m, he carries strong form into the home showdown with struggling Fulham.

Aimng to get Yaya, Silva & Aguero from GW31 and would be good to save WC so any transfer I do now that don't release funds have to be bloody good, so Chester can stay right where he is along with Noone.

Also why Puncheon over Ince probably next week and Kos > someonecheap.

I have an identical problem - I'm shifting Eriksen for Lallana as at least AJ and Bony will play this week. AJ out next week for his blanks.

I'm keeping Mata to play GW29.

Would captaining Adebayor (nor) as an attempted differential against my ML leader (who will captain Suarez) be worth the gamble? I'm 85 points behind and feel like I need to take some risks to close the gap, just not sure if this one is worth it or not...

you don't need to take risks with the number of blanks and DGWs coming up.

      85 / 12 = 7 points a week. = not much.

Thanks Johan - you're right, I guess it's about working out which moves are a sensible, calculated gamble and which are just hopeless lunges into the unknown. Was just swayed by the fact that we both captained Suarez last week, but if I'd given the armband to Ade (who he doesn't have) I could have really racked up the points (as it was I still made 13 points on him anyway). But Suarez does look like he's itching for an explosion, and I guess this weekend might be it.

Yep, fair point. Agree that careful planning through the blanks and doubles over the next few weeks is probably the key to closing the gap. I've got RVP as captain for GW29 - my opponent won't be able to get him in without a load of rejigging and hits - so fingers crossed that I'll make up some ground there...

It's a tough one. Even with the fund-releasing properties of Pablo, I still need to let Suarez go and that's really a decision based on relative fixtures and the possibly temporary dip in Suarez's form. Makes me very nervous.

I see the temptation but I'd say there's much more chance of falling further behind with that move than of moving ahead. There will be better weeks ahead for differential captaincy decisions with a lower risk of falling further back.

rooney needs to go, way too much money for someone who is playing very deep.

haha well murray was one of the top scorers in the division

signed from brighton where he was a bit nothingy and went on to tear the championship up for CPL!

he was in my team pre season until he got injured, no idea what he'll be like now after being out for so long

He's still a while away from putting chamakh under threat, but once he's fully fit I imagine he'll take the lone striker role

    Adrian,
    Terry, Ivanovic, Koscielny
    Hazard, Eriksen, Sterling, Puncheon
    Suarez, Rooney, RVP
    (Mannone; Bruce, Ward, Barkley)

Thinking of banking it then shifting Rooney and Barkley next week. Nobody appeals to swap Barkley for for free and ditching Rooney vs. Palace for a hit seems daft.

    Seem sensible?

    @roscola

about your point on rooney's wages yesterday and how it is fine as he is taking money from a corporate giant... the more the wage bill goes up, the more us fans get screwed over! it is not the glazers paying his wages, it is the fans through shirt sales/tickets/sky sports subscriptions etc.

Yeah, I think it's crazy. He's going to have to step up big time to justify that contract. On the other hand, they are really struggling to sign players, letting Rooney leave is the last thing they want, especially with CL looking unlikely making things even worse. Seems a bit desperate really.

I see what you're saying but I don't think that's a direct enough link to make Rooney a bad person for trying to get as much pay from his employer as possible.

Agreed, Rooney gots to gets paid. That makes all the sense in the world. United don't really have much of a choice, they need to get more big names going in, not out.
