PlayON Picks – Gameweek 4

After an international break packed with injury concerns for Fantasy managers, we edge towards Gameweek 4 by rolling out our Friday lunchtime regular once again. We scour the PlayON player price list ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline and, as usual, offer a couple of picks per position, with an essential weekend target and a budget alternative for your consideration.

This weekend PlayON have £2,000 in Guaranteed Pots on offer – £1,000 Guaranteed for the full gameweek, £500 Guaranteed for the Saturday daily game and £250 Guaranteed for each of the Sunday and Monday daily games.

Goalkeeper – Asmir Begovic
After an unlikely clean sheet at the Etihad, a home encounter against Leicester bodes well for his prospects of another shut-out. Available for just 7.6m, Begovic offers a cut-price route into a defence that conceded just 18 times in front of their own fans last term – the fourth most resilient home back-line of 2013/14. If you’re willing to entrust some of your budget to Louis van Gaal’s new look defence, then David de Gea comes in at 7.9m for a plum home encounter with QPR. While there may be question marks over United’s starters in defence, the Spaniard is guaranteed pitch time by comparison  having chalked up his first shut-out of the season last time around, he’ll be confident of another against an R’s side with just one goal to their name thus far.

Defender – Javier Manquillo
After stuttering in their first two fixtures, Liverpool impressive 3-0 win at Spurs in the last Gameweek suggests they could be worth the outlay at both ends of the pitch. The Reds will be hoping that home comforts allow them to continue the run, then, and with Glen Johnson injured and Jon Flanagan still finding his fitness after sustaining a knee injury, Manquillo looks set to retain a starting place against Aston Villa for the bargain price of 7.2m. League leaders Chelsea host Swansea on Saturday as Jose Mourinho’s side seek to maintain their 100% start to the season. Given their visitors have a similar record, though, snapping up a defender with plenty of attacking potential seems a sensible move, and with two goals and an assist thus far, Branislav Ivanovic, at 9.5m, cannot be overlooked for this one.

Midfielder – Wilfried Zaha
Climbing off the bench in the previous Gameweek, the on-loan midfielder wasted no time in making an impact. Zaha – who sets you back 8.9m  fired four attempts and netted a last-gasp equaliser as Palace snatched a draw at Newcastle, and with Marouane Chamakh ruled out, he looks poised for a start as Neil Warnock’s side play host to promoted Burnley. Elsewhere, Angel Di Maria looks a real bargain for United’s home clash against QPR. Priced at a mere 8.2m, the record signing welcomes the R’s in excellent form, having served up a goal and three assists in Argentina’s recent friendly win over Germany and looks in the mood to pick up the points in his first appearance at Old Trafford.

Forward – Mame Biram Diouf
There’s no doubt that Stoke’s summer signing took his time to settle in his new surrounds, but on the evidence of his showing last time out, is beginning to find his feet. Diouf’s superb solo effort against champions Man City hints at the form that that produced eight goals and four assists in 19 appearances for Bundesliga club Hamburg last term, and with a generous price tag of 9.8m in PlayON, is a strong cut-price contender at home to Leicester City. Following their convincing win at Tottenham, we turn our attention to the Liverpool attack. With a home match against Aston Villa up next, Mario Balotelli will be hoping to start his goal-scoring account for the Reds after coming close several times at White Hart Lane. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined due to a thigh injury, the 10.4m priced Italian should start up front and affords us a double-up option along with Raheem Sterling (10.5) in the Merseysiders’ midfield.

Head over to www.playon.co and get picking ahead of the 10.45am deadline tomorrow morning.

I've got to free up 0.3 in this wildcard team. Any suggestions?

    Krul / Mannone
    Ivanovic / Clyne / Moreno / Chester / Duff
Fabregas / Ramsey / Sterling / Siggy / Ward Prowse
    Rooney / Costa / Naismith

If I was on WC I wouldnt get JWP. How about -

Hazard Tadic and Zaha over Fab Ramsey and JWP?

If it were me I'd do Fab to Tadic (don't like Fab's next few fixtures and think he'll struggle to get more than the very occasional assist - say 2 or 3 in 6 weeks)

Thats more or less what i would choose if i was on a wc. would do Balotelli instead of rooney. I think Begovic and Mccarthy is the smartest pick in goal though.

Ofcourse you should play ramsey what a silly question. Drop Zaha if Ramsey is fit. If Ramsey is dropped then the auto-sub will take care of it.

You defense is shocking btw. Evans probably won't even feature and neither will dummett. hutton plays at anfield too lol

How come the points for interceptions and recovered balls were completely removed, I liked this feature. Could understand it been reduced from 50 to 25 but was disappointed it got completely wiped. Was it too subjective?

        Hi RandyMilla,

We removed these as we felt it was off-putting to casual players as this is information a casual user may not have a strong view on and hence, may not be prepared to play a game that awards points for this level of granularity. This is something we are reviewing again at the moment thought as a number of people have said that they really liked this part of the game - particularly that it meant there were lots more events updating in the ticker - so we're going to make a final call on whether we re-introduce them or not over the next week.

Laying on a sun lounger under a palm tree considering my next move, team is currently as follows:

    Krul (mannone)
    Wisdom Cahill Chester (Vlaar chambers)
    Siggy mata Eriksson sterling (Ramsey)
    Rooney (c) Costa Naismith

Used I freebie last weekend before left uk as was unsure on wifi, bojan to Naismith no brainer. Still have one freebie and think I should hold until we see how all new signings get on at weekend?

    Thoughts much appreciated

Your team as no real issues so you could wait.
Long term I think Vlaar has to go with the big 6 all coming in a row.
      Chambers not playing.
      Chester nailed?

Your defence is extremelly weak so Id get someone in, but you could get away with it this week.

Dodging on which charge? The charges that relied on pre-meditation weren't going to get very far - regardless of whether he meant to shoot her or not, he clearly hadn't planned it. The issue of pre-meditation got very little attention in the trial anyway, even by the prosecution.

Also wouldn't he have noticed if his girl wasn't in bed with him when he went to the toilet?

And the fact that if he was so scared of an intruder who would have had to walk into their bedroom, past their bed to get to the toilet?

Defies logic, but then again insufficient to meet the burden of proof requirement apparently.

Hendo is awesome value, he gets a shots in and can play killer passes such as the pass of the season so far to assist Sterling in GW1
Given Liverpool's fixtures are pretty clear i see no reason not to get him
Use the comparison tool to look at his stats for last season, the 2nd half of last season and the last 6 GW and you'll see he's performing at a 8.0+ rate

Aye I can't actually see it happening. It'd put a spanner in the fantasy works though.

Not going to happen. Borini will probably replace Sturridge though.

Supposed to be waiting till tomorrow to complete my WC line-up
    Remaining transfers to make:

    OUT
    Dier
    Ivanovic
    Shawcross
    Dyer
    Naismith

    IN
    Coleman
    Terry
    Bardsley
    Henderson
    Aguero

I'm just hoping that some price changes make me some money

Bit worried that Aguero will go up tho.... should i make the move now??

just dont see him keeping up the scoring record - 2 in 3 cant happen all season
If Terry goes 6.4 then its a nice saving
If he stays 6.5 i'll probably go with Cahill

Have you been watching? He is more threatening than most strikers. Terry barely moves forward now. It won't last forever, but don't drop him until it stops.

Thoughts on this for a 4 point hit considering it looks very unlikely that Ramsey will play.

Ramsey and Adebayor to Falcao and Chadli.

This leaves me 0.6 in the bank to upgrade the defence the week after and also leaves me with KFC as my front 3.

Serious question that urgently needs your help

I'm think of going down the pub. Not just for a sly half, but for the duration. What time do you think is a good time to go? Could go any time from 13:00 onwards.

    TIA

        Cheers, I like your thinking!
Thought I'd get one or two more replies than this, people are obviously taking their FPL much more seriously than I am!
