Spot the Differential – Gameweek 12

As the Gameweek 12 deadline edges ever closer, we roll out another trio of overlooked options for your perusal once again. Our attentions turn to a couple of cut-price attackers looking to net yet again, whilst a fit-again City midfielder also makes his way onto this morning’s radar.

Samir Nasri

After a couple of months on the sidelines, the Frenchman has returned to action just in time for a kind upcoming run of matches for City. Afforded his first start since Gameweek 4 last time around, Nasri’s comeback has already diminished James Milner’s minutes and, as we saw last season – where he made 34 league appearances – Nasri, when fully fit, is a firm favourite of Manuel Pellegrini’s.

Certainly, with a single assist in six league outings, it’s fair to say that the midfielder has yet to find his form. As he begins to build up his match sharpness, though, Pellegrini will be looking to afford Nasri the same sort of attacking license that produced seven goals and 11 assists in last term’s title-winning campaign. Available for 8.2 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he’s currently owned by less than 2% of Fantasy managers, but with showdowns against Swansea, Sunderland, Leicester and Palace in the next six, he seems one to monitor as the champions look to go on the offensive to keep their title tilt on track.

Ayoze Perez

Utilised as a brief sub in seven of the opening eight Gameweeks, Newcastle’s summer signing has hit the ground running upon his introduction to Alan Pardew’s starting XI. Handed his first start in Gameweek 9, Perez has proceeded to score in each of the subsequent three league outings, netting against Tottenham, Liverpool and West Brom as the Magpies ascend the table.

The young Spaniard has also earned six bonus points in the FPL game for his recent endeavours, and with Pardew keen to court caution with Papiss Cisse in light of his knee problem, Perez look in line to retain the lone striker role at home to QPR this weekend. Bearing in mind the R’s have conceded in every road trip so far, the Tyneside team will be looking for Perez to produce the goods once again and, available for a cut-price 4.8, he could well be worth considering ahead of a schedule which also sees him square up to West Ham, Burnley and Sunderland in the following five.

Bojan Krkic

Yes, we’ve been here before. The Spaniard’s stunning pre-season form had many eyeing up his acquisition but a sluggish start to life in the top-flight saw him tumble off Fantasy radars and Mark Hughes’ team sheet before August was over.

Over the last couple of Gameweeks, though, Bojan has finally settled at the Britannia and is looking instrumental to Stoke’s prospects in the final third. Handed back-to-back starts in the role in “the hole”, the summer signing grabbed a goal and two bonus points in a 2-1 win at Tottenham last time around and looks poised to retain his starting berth as Burnley come calling later today.

The Potters have now scored twice in three of their last four league fixtures, and with the fixture list turning nasty in Gameweek 13, a victory against the Clarets looks vital. Available for just 4.8 in FPL, he squares up to a side that have conceded more shots inside the box than any other in the last four Gameweeks, suggesting points could be on the horizon for anyone brave enough to roll the dice.

City score 4 at home on average and Aguero involved in 70% of goals this season. Best player in the bpl hands down on cracking form. Its a no brainer for me.

Sorry, I'm in NZ. I forgot that in the past month the time difference shifted from 11 hours to 13. (The reason I ask is I'm going to a game scheduled for Sat April 11 and need to sort out flights.)

In BST, NZ's 11 hours ahead; In NZST, NZ's 13 hours ahead. (For a couple of weeks in between it's 12 hours difference. It does my head in.)

    Damn you Tadic.

You've teased me for too long and now when I want to get shot of you to enable me to get Sanchez in there you are smiling at me with your come hither eyes saying 'look at the Villa defence I'm up against on Monday night!'

I know you're going to hold out a promise of a ton of points and then leave me with just a 3 pointer if I'm lucky......

What am I going to do with you, son? Can I really afford to hold off getting in Sanchez for yet another week at your expense?

I need a sanity check. I have four injuries to contend with, and 3 Southampton players. I was hoping to save my FT so I could ditch 2x Southampton next week.

Of course, none of my Southampton players are injured. I won't ditch Baines for one week, and Downing has great fixtures coming up so probably not worth ditching either.

    Leaves me with (ignore gk):

Clyne (avl), Bertrand (avl), Wisdom (che)
Sanchez (MUN), Siggy (mci), Albrighton (zero)
    Costa/Aguero/Pelle

+ one injured (let's say Baines)

Bench: Downing (inj) / Fabregas (inj) / Saylor (inj) - ITB: 0.5m

So I have effectively got 9 players this week, since Albrighton is a zero.

Option One - ride the storm and hope that a couple of doubtfuls end up playing
Option Two - Wildcard time... (still available)

option one-saints should be delivering a walloppppping
play fabregas tho instead of albrighton
      then enjoy your 2FTs

Sorry I should have made it clear that Albrighton will be a sub... I'm just playing out the scenario that all 4 yellow flags are indeed out.

Thanks for the fb, I really want to save my WC till the 2nd half of the season if possible!

Those two playing would be a lifesaver... although BBC just announced Baines as a major doubt.

I'm in a similar fix. If only 9 of your players play, you are forfeiting at least 4 points, so you might as well take a -4 point hit. Lose taylor, he won't play for a while. You could go side ways for drummet or Yun for the same price. Then consider the Southampton change a week earlier. ?

I made the change: Pelle -> Costa.
Pelle has been slowing down form wise and Chelsea's fixtures are too favourable not to have Costa. I do it more for risk management. Pelle could still get a good haul today, but after that the fixtures look tougher.

I am now on Costa. Honestly I think him and Aguero are both equally likely to score, and this is potentially the only time left for a long time that captaining Costa could be anything like a differential.

I have both Costa & Aguero, but captaining Aguero. Always wary over captaining a player who has just returned from an extended rest and/or injury - wouldn't be suprised if Costa needs a couple of games to get back 100% match fit. Kun, on the other hand, is in the form of his life... which means he will score against each and every defence he comes up against, he is simply unplayable. Add to that the fact that he's on pens. Then also consider Swansea have been (imho) overachieving this year and city have been (in most people's opinions) underachieving... that would suggest city scoring at least 2 goals is extremely likely.

For what it's worth I could see Costa getting 8 points & Kun getting 9 or 10... but equally could see Costa getting 2 points & Kun getting 22!

Decided to gather some information when trying to pick a captain for the upcoming gameweek and this is what I found.

Aguero and Costa does both have 6 goals from home games, so not a big difference here. Aguero does however got 2 more away goals with 40 minutes more played which slightly puts him in the lead here.

Swansea have conceded 7 goals in 3 out of 5 away games. It is worth noting that they conceded 4 goals against Chelsea. West Brom have conceded 5 goals in 2 out of 5 away games. Swansea's away defense record looks worse than West Brom's, so Aguero got this advantage as well.

I had Costa as my captain before looking up this statistics, but have changed him to Aguero after this.

Its definitely Aguero. Just imagine people: Aguero and Costa as the lead striker in that Man Utd team instead of Persie, whom would you pick?

Aguero is the call, isn't it? (Wondering if picturizing in red makes that effect!?)

Shouldn't we declare a rule that if fit, always captain Aguero irrespective of the opposition and especially at home !?? (like never drop baines?)
