The Community Round Up

In anticipation of the launch of further Fantasy games, community members have spent their time looking back to see what lessons they can learn from last season and continue to plot their strategies for the forthcoming season. As always, we also take time out to cast an eye over the community leagues and tournaments taking place this summer.

Hottest Topics

Sometimes the boundaries between fantasy football and art blur as The 3rd Turd has proved with this colourful look at player points accumulation over last season. The graph can be broken down by position, teams and individual players. Lots to take in and an amazing sight to behold.

Elsewhere,”uber debate” rumbles on, with those favouring an “uber cheap” defence as well as those looking at more expensive options, continuing to make impressive cases for their causes.

In Tommy We Trust has been flying the flag for the “ubers” and explaining about how the strategy can form part of a balanced side. Tommy has also been looking at three- way uber attacking options. While Daniel, who favours more investment in defence, arrived to rain on Tommy’s parade and look the pitfalls of going “uber”.

JCC is another cynic who has surfaced this week is; he has set about pouring scorn on those considering Michu as an option in 2013/14. There are quite simple other far better options, he argues.

Meanwhile The Parmtree has been gazing into his crystal ball to give a lengthy team by team analysis for the forthcoming season. This epic tome is in two parts, which can be seen here and here.

Our own hot topics have also been continuing and this week we asked to what extent fantasy football affects our mood and lives. We were surprised by how many admitted the psychological scars a bad Gameweek can leave.

Community Tournaments

FFS UEFA’s intriguing Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game turned its attention to bids for strikers this week. Among the most successful teams, which are made up along Premier League club lines, were Aston Villa led by HVT, which welcomed Lionel Messi whilst Anorak‘s Spurs plotted the acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo. Meanwhile, Chelsea owned by Declan acquired the deadly duo of Falcao and Rooney, with Everton proudly purchasing the services of Edinson Cavani under Saniul‘s guidance. Still leading the game are Fulham, led by PeppieandFelix. The deadline for Transfer Window 1 is Saturday 2359 HRS BST, where clubs will look to trade players amongst themselves. Anyone who would like to join can sign up here.

Following on from ITWT's great work on an uber defence, I think I've found my preferred rotation which is largely similar but slightly stronger imo and averages 4ppg from my estimations (based on last season's stats and my season predictions).

    It goes as follows:

    GW1-8: Eve/Wba/Car/Sot/New
    GW9: Transfer New to Whm
    GW9-11: Eve/Wba/Car/Sot/Whm
    GW12: Transfer Sot to New
    GW12-20: Eve/Wba/Car/New/Whm

This is of course only viable if Coleman will be 5.0, and the rest will have options for 4.5 (4.0 for Car).

The rotation faces last season's top 7 only 3 times: Newcastle home to Liverpool gw8, Everton home to Liverpool gw12 and Everton away to Arsenal gw15.

Only 38/57 games at home but all away fixtures are favourable except Ars v Eve gw15 and are largely against the promoted sides and last seasons worst attacks.

Cardiff can also be replaced with Hull for a very similar rotation but I fancy Cardiff slightly more and plan to have Ruddy/Hull keepers.

Hope this is helpful, full list of teams faced would take an age to type out and isn't to difficult to see using a ticker.

The 2 planned transfers are in effect Sot to Whm but they have overlapping good fixtures so it's a workaround, ommitting Newcastle for a terrible 3 game run

          That didnt answer my question.

Based on the turd's work, I would suggest that ALL planned transfers do not add to your points sufficiently. Imo transfers should only be used to bring in form players or transfer out injuries.

Ah ok, haven't seen the graphs..link?

I see it as using fixtures to anticipate rises and falls in form. Sot defenders will tail off after first 11 and Whm go on a good run from 9 (also some good fixtures early on ).

              These graphs;

              http://public.tableausoftware.com/views/FPL2012-13Cumulativestats/Sheet1

You can filter it to just defenders or specific players. They all appear to have picked up points at a relatively constant rate. No major spikes that should have been taken advantage of.

Interesting...not sure this shows how selling SOT after their great opening 11 would or wouldn't be a good move though. It's highly likely that if they are on form over this period, it will fall off as they face all the top teams.

      Morning,

Nice work but I can't help but feel if Coleman is 5 mil, couldn't you just rotate two, two ways that best overlap and play Coleman every week? You'll be picking him for his attacking output right?

That's how I started off, and its always a fallback if injuries and rotation hit. However Everton have a fair few tough fixtures and if he is 5.0 I won't be too worried to bench for others with strong ones. Only plan to drop him 4 times anyway.

The problem with a 2x2 is its largely based around home/away and involves more tough fixtures than your (?) method

Yep, you can get clever with which 2+2 rotation to play though to try and remove the difficult fixtures for a particular 2 way rotation. TW and Berbagod have done some good work on this. They call them a 4 way.

I'll be surprised if we don't get one or two from each club. The thing that might kill it will be how nailed on are those players. Can see Debuchy for example coming in at 4.5 and Billy Jones or Ridgewell at WBA.

              My plan with Coleman if he is a cheapish defender is to run a three way with him playing every game;

              Migs + Marshall

              Luiz + Coleman (NEW/SOT/WBA)

There's plenty of weeks in that three way that could cover Coleman (GW4(CHE),7(mcy),14(mun) and 15(ars)) if you are happy to bench him

Luiz becoming City after gw1 presumably?

Debuchy would be brilliant at 4.5. Not sure Ridgewell would fall, Jones at 4.5 would be good. Even Reid if he's reclassified as a defender could be 4.5 I suppose

No chance Ridgwell imo (he could even be 5.5) but jones is a possibility even though I expect reid to get plenty of game time when fit.

I really don't see the potential with wbrom either considering they only got 5 cs in the last 33 games laet year (or something like that). Their form was deteriorating rapidly as clarke had time to implement his ideas and methods on the squad and I only see this accelerating as this season progresses.

I think the lack of cleanies later on stemmed from injuries to Yacob and Mulumbu. If they avoid injury and are regularly starting their defensive solidity will be as good as West Ham/Norwich if not better

Devil's advocate - that is not the law. Fines do not take your income or wealth into account.

Possibly there is an argument that they should but that is a very different kettle of fish, they have to apply the law as it exists now.

It is a great pity as community service is the only way he can actually "pay" for the crime but no reason to treat him differently than anyone else.

Ad no possibility of getting him to serve it in Italy, we have no jurisdiction there.

Why do all the games where you can win prizes only allow UK residents? Wouldn't it be in their interest to have a larger mass of players? I am only asking this because I am bored and I want to set up a team, but am not allowed to...

        But only really small prizes.

Its to do with international gambling laws. To offer large prizes invokes rules about gambling which means that a lot of countries will not allow their residents to partake. FPL doesnt have large prizes to ensure that it is open to all.

PlayOn the actual fantasy football gambling site is only open to about a quarter of the countries in the world because of all this.

        Thx GB.

Dont your best players leave every season? Ricky Holmes has left us this time to go to Portsmouth and play for what appears the Ex-Barnet reunion team 😉 .

We were so unlucky to go down though given how many points we got once Davids took over, and weve got pretty much the same squad with the addition of Achempong who has slotted comfortably in at CB. This means our first team is actually all our own players and we wont be relying on the revolving loan positions this time. I really do believe that we will be straight back up.

    some random questioni,
do wearing a sweater while running in summer lose more weight?

I used to think that it doesn't, as you just lose more water weight, not actual 'body weight'

but then I found out that the higher body temperature = higher metabolism, so wearing sweater do indeed help you lose more weight? (providing acquiring all the lost fluid etc.)

Depends if you're running uphill or downhill, seriously. Running on flat wearing sweater will lose u feck all weight, you need to be putting some strain on your body to lose serious weight. A boxer making weight won't amble around in a sweat suit, he'll push himself hard AND sweat the weight off.
