The Community Round Up

Strikers preoccupied the community this week, with replacements for the injured Sergio Aguero being sought and Fantasy managers wondering if Luis Suarez would go on to make Fantasy Football history. Elsewhere, we examine how those early kick-off myths were dispelled once and for all and take time to catch up with the latest goings-on in our community tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

Sergio Aguero’s calf injury and subsequent month-long lay off shook up the community’s frontlines this week. As we hurriedly looked to replace the Manchester City striker, Nice To Finally Michu was on hand to weigh up the replacements.

The Sarjeant was also looking at Aguero replacements, but instead focusing on some key differential options. Gary Hooper and Dimitar Berbatov were among those he was eyeing up. In RonH’s post, Negredo emerged as the ready-made replacement for Aguero. Ronh rolled out statistics and fixture analysis to construct a convincing case, portraying the Spaniard as the clear standout option.

City’s midfield assets the focus of Your Mum’s Athletic‘s hot topic. He examined the merits of Yaya Toure and David Silva, with the Ivory Coast international having the edge, based on his analysis.

Luis Suarez was not put forward as a replacement for Aguero, mainly because of the assumption that he’s already a mainstay in our lineups. The Uruguyan continues to look unstoppable and, given that most will be captaining him for the foreseeable future, we asked how Fantasy managers can counter the Suarez effect. Will was amongst those to chip in, citing investment in midfield with a cheaper defence as a potential route of exploration.

The 3rd Turd is so impressed with Suarez’s displays that he even believes he will become the first Fantasy Premier League player to breach the 300 points barrier. His trip down memory lane looking back on the previous season’s top points scorers proved one of the most popular posts this week.

Finally, our watchlist guru, Green Windmill, found some time to finally prove that the results of the early kick-offs are no different to those at other times. Of course, we knew that all along but that won’t stop us letting the live cameras have their say when it comes to our transfers.

The Community Tournaments

Breaching the top 100,000 seemed like an impossible dream at the start of the season for those taking part in HeelsOverHead’s Worst to First 2 Million Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks. However, Bales of Fury has already achieved that landmark feat, and was sitting pretty with a rank of 72,143 going into Gameweek 17. Seven teams are in the top 250,000 and in poll position to mirror his achievement.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing league, 35 managers departed during Gameweek 16, leaving 411 to fight another day. To join TM’s upcoming midseason leagues, click here.

Those leading In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are Evs, Bootsy, Athletico Timbo, Crouch Potato, Wslnpt and Koneheads. Tony Hibbert is the favourite to lift Tommy’s AT50Q competition trophy after going into Gameweek 17 with an overall rank of 570.

But if you're willing to take a hit, definitely D.

My Deadzone friends & peers, serious help needed.

I've played very pragmatically this season, only the one hit since GW5, but I feel as if the game is getting away from me at the moment & I need to react.

Contemplating a minus 12, which will leave me with zero money, and will have to happen very soon or I can't do it.

    1FT, 2.3 ITB

Terry --> Ars 5.4 (Kosc if he's coming back for Boxing Day)
    Ozil --> Wally
    Sess --> Silva
    Ravel --> Cabaye

Weakness - leave me with the two reserve Southampton keepers and a problem if Boruc comes back.

    The rest:

    Gazz | Davis
    Coleman | Distin | Gabbidon | Burner | xxx
    Ramsey | Hazard | xxx | xxx | xxx
    Suarez | Rooney | Lukaku

Thanks for all thoughts, season changing decision.

I'd hold on to Terry and Özil. If you can do Sess --> Silva and Ravel to someone cheap, then you've got just as strong a team with eight points saved. Then next week add another viable keeper.

That would leave me with nothing ITB, so changing the keeper would be another 4pts the week after. Plus I'm worried I'd be left with Xmas rotation concerns.

The -12 makes me feel safe over Xmas for some reason.

Plus I'd happily drive Terry a few hundred miles to get rid of him. He's been shocking value.

Good transfers all around imo. Would leave you in a good position to save the FT for GW19 and possibly use one only in GW20. Tackle the Boruc issue when it comes.

You'd suffer for the week but long term it will be good. I point you in Mark's direction. He's been sitting on his midfield for a long time when it's been shouting out for a hit, especially this week. Sometimes you'd need to shake things up. Current midfield is very stale.

Yes, I'd be able to get 2FT up and running for GW20 so long as injury doesn't hit.

My fear is I wait for the WC and I can't get near this team ever again.

yea back in GW9, I myself took a 12 point hit. Vidic Moses Rooney Amalfitano > Clyne Hazard Ramsey Lukaku, and I kept all of them until now (except Clyne due to injury). They have definitely paid off handsomely.

The 4 transfers in you've shortlisted will be good as long as you're able to keep them for an extended period of time. Gives you more flexibility with the FTs instead of fighting fires. I've been playing pragmatic recently after a hit-crazy start to the season. But felt I was missing out on too many points, did a -4 last week Ozil & Sess > Walcott & Silva. Has paid off this week so far and with these 2 transfers, it's less fires to fight moving forward.

I would do it if I were you. FTs from here on out can be used to improve the team, not removing dead weight.

Well I'm not against big points hits as long as they sound good and act as a mini Wildcard. Though do you really need to take this when the January WC is so near now? 12 point hit and so near the WC. I like the moves, no doubt, but if it can wait, then I'd wait definitely.

    Ozil-Hazard-Silva-Ramsey-R.Morrison

Check in how many game weeks Rooney has scored or assisted this season. He's been incredibly consistent. I wouldn't be selling. I'd find a different way to bring in Silva (maybe downgrading a defender).

Downgrade Terry to free up funds for Walcott? Is it also necessary to have both Hazard AND Oscar?

I think the holy trinity is Silva, Walcott and Hazard. The only variations being Ozil, Oscar and Yaya for differentials. It's a question about who is going to preform long term, who is going to have the most time on the pitch, and who is less injury prone.

I've gone for Adebayor and took out Lukaku. Frankly I'm tired of seeing everyone in my league with the same frontline. I don't know if Ade will keep his spot or even if he will do well but I'm down for a gamble especially now the cup is coming around. If he does fail Gouffran looks like a nice cheap option.

69(-4) and barely up 25K spots at 430K rank. Getting very tough. Not sure what to do. Only consolation is that it's still a green, but Suarez' form is really hindering any sharp movements up the rank.

TM above has got it spot on above. Yaya, Suarez and Ramsey doing well hinders movement a lot. Not many good differentials too as of now. Silva and Theo are the only hopes, and its difficult to accommodate both of them with Hazard in the midfield.

    Hey!

I really need some advice this time:

The actual question is: how important is it for me to get Walcott in? And do you see other ways I couldn't see yet?

The way I see: terry, myhill, fer TO manonne, Whittaker, and Walcott.

    My team:

    Myhill, Howard
    Ward, Coleman, terry, Chester, meet
    Ramsey, Silva, hazard, fer, cabaye,
    Suarez, Rooney, lukaku

    0ft, 0,5m in bank

Thx and I'm chasing in my ml

depending on ur ML rivals but it seems u secured the differentials in cabaye and silva and teh usual suspects up front
what will walcott in cost is the question
if a defender can be dowgraded and walcott brought in for ramsey and fer then fine
walcott have suffered from muscle injury so he will not play 90 min week in week out until after the new year when fixtures ease a bit and that is somehting that should be taken in consideration
