The Community Round Up

Injuries have ripped apart the “template” teams in the last week or so, creating a variety of discussions in the community, which chew over potential replacements. With the January wildcard beckoning, our focus on the week’s hot topics revisit chat on the options in midfield and goalkeeper rotation pairings. In addition, a late entry from today’s activity took a wry look at the some of the characters that make up the Fantasy Football Scout community. As usual, we round things off with a check on the latest from our community leagues, congratulating an FA Cup winner along the way.

The Hottest Topics

Aaron Ramsey’s injury at Upton Park looks to have put the Welsh wonder out of the picture, causing much consternation and deliberation amongst his army of owners. From the community reaction it’s clear that some will gamble on clinging on to avoid the cash loss, but for others the setback meant he was shown the door. Among those on hand to offer advice on a sensible Ramsey exit strategy was @ocprodigy with the in-form Theo Walcott and Yohan Cabaye cited as ready-made replacments.

Even before Ramsey’s injury, the community was considering a dramatic ditching of his services. Earlier in the week TW asked whether now was the best time for Fantasy managers to cash in on Ramsey’s price rise and look elsewhere.

Those considering a downgrade to liberate funds could find some timely advice via a consideration of budget midfield options with Floydy_Floyd tipping Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling to prosper in 2014. PTC meanwhile has his eye on the assist potential of Barry Bannan as the Pulis-inspired Palace revival goes through the gears.

It wasn’t just gaps in midfield that were opening up over Christmas. Romelu Lukaku may have finally broken out of his dry spell with the winner over Southampton today but, having gone five starts without a goal before today’s fixture, there was plenty of fidgeting amongst his owners in the community. In the Lukaku debate , Marr pointed to form over fixtures, while SkyCell, perhaps wisely, gave the Belgian the next three outings to prove his worth. Maybe today’s goal has changed the landscape, although almost 100,000 shed his services before yesterday’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Nice to Finally Michu gazed into 2014 to assess the best goalkeeper pairings on offer. His excellent post looks at the best placed pairs over the next ten Gameweeks, with Sunderland’s Vito Mannone and the Gunners Wojciech Szczesny among the standout options on offer.

Finally, JDoyles profiling of some of the FFS community “characters” hoovered up votes and raised smiles aplenty as Gameweek 19 drew to a close. Are you amongst the poster personality types in his breakdown?

The Community Tournaments

FFS UEFA’s FA Cup competition has been one of the community’s largest to date. Finally a winner has emerged with Fantasy Football Scout community moderator Ryan’s Tranmere Rovers beating Fantasy Kid’s Luton Town in a nail-biting conclusion. There was further joy amongst our moderator team, with Evs being crowned champion in FFS UEFA’s Premier League H2H competition.

HeelsOverHead’s Worst to First 2 Million Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, now has 19 teams within a rank of one million and seven in the top 250,000. With an overall rank of 70,106 Teltzham Hotspurs is in the lead.

nah, i dont think west ham have the luxury of resting him given their situation and the importance of the match...he has been one of their best players so if he is fit, he shd play.

Who to play in goal this week? Howard at Stoke or Mannone home vs. Villa....

Everton hasn't kept a CS in 5 GW's now but Howard seems awfully expensive to leave on the bench against a team like Stoke.

Sunderland's been quite impressive the last few weeks defensively until this week.

So not sure what direction to go. I personally haven't managed to get a CS out of my goalie in what seems like an eternity.

Same decision for me. Going Howard. Stoke had 1 shot on goal v Spurs until very late on. Everton keep the ball better and will dominate more than Spurs imo, even away.

Anyone else thought of going with a budget back-up striker like Chamakh next to two big hitters so you could afford 5 juicy midfielders?

    Walcott - Hazard - Cabaye - RavMo - Silva
    -------- Rooney - Suarez - Chamakh

To Get Silva in and have that midfield I could downgrade Lukaku to Chamakh and play 352/442 with Suarez and Rooney up front (Aguero when he's back) or 433 and rotate Chamakh/Ravel.

This isn't something I've planned to do, just thinking out loud. I think I need One of Silva/Yaya and if I don't downgrade Lukaku I'll have to sell Wally or Hazard, which I don't want to.

I could still afford a GK combo of Marshall/Mannone and a defense something close to Coleman Ward Nasty/Possibly Zab, Chester Evans.
SAR could be back, maybe I'll do well with Suarez, Rooney and Aguero, and no Silva.

      howard
      coleman kosc chester burner ward
      hazard silva walcott cabaye jwp

Whats the general consensus here on the best time to play the Jan WC (in january obviously 😉 but i am referring to the gw)

my general principles i have used in the past:
    - Determine if there are any major movements in the jan window and timing thereof
    - Delay as long as possible for deadline day transfers, esp for players within the premier league as they will be able start playing immediately as opposed to outside players who need a bedding in period
    - Delay between gw's, i think there is a 10 day gap btw gw22-23 but only 3 days btw gw23 -gw24
    - major fixture swings from either gw23 or gw24 onwards
    - your state of the squad i.e. number of deadwood players you are carrying (although i doubt this is a major factor)

    Anything else i have missed?

Take a hit this week or just the FT?

    Howard (Mannone)
    Mert Coleman Debuchy (Burner, Chester)
    Walcott, Hazard, Whittingham, Ozil (Brady)
    Saurez, Negredo, Lukaku

Need to move at least one of Ozil or Brady obviously as both continue to lose value and Turner/Chester both have terrible match-ups.

Thinking Ozil has the bigger potential to drop the most over the next few days.

Money not an issue as I have 2.4 mil in the bank.

What direction to go? People I'm considering are Gerrard as he is supposed to be back for the 1/1/14 game, Yaya coming off a rest, Lallana who seems to play a part in every Soton goal, Oscar to double up with Hazard.

Worth moving both Ozil and Brady for a -4 since Whittingham has a bad match-up at Arsenal?

    Appreciate any thoughts.

    Mannone/ Davis
    Mert, Coleman, Evans, Ward, Chester
    Y. Toure, Hazard, Walcott, Cabaye, Koren
    Suarez, Rooney, Welbeck

Based on current prices I have 1.8 itb.

GK - could go Sczcesny for Mannone
DEF - could go Kompany for Evans
M/F - could go Mutch/Livermore/Bannan for Koren who would be nailed on now after 2 goals
FOR - Welbeck is a punt but seems high on confidence atm & is nailed on until RVP returns. When Aguero is fit Rooney will go.

My team looked pretty great going into this GW (if I do say so myself 🙂 )

Next week it looks a shambles. Nothing I can do really to sort it out with so little cash in the bank though!

    ..................Migs (4.0)
    ....Distin - Shaw - Baker
    Haz - Wally(vc) - Ravel* - Whitts
    ....Suaz(c) - Roon* - Negredo

Bench: Chester - Burner - Silva*
    0.1 In the bank & 1FT

Any ideas? I'm thinking ride out this week with a poor team, save tranny & next week do:

    Migs > Mannone
    Shaw > Kosc

I'm in for a red arrow this week if I do this though

Possible to 'play the market' during the wildcard?

If you were to play it during the 10 day break between 20 and 21, you could buy and sell players to really boost team value.

    No? Just a thought,,,

Boosts team value, but really the advantage that could come from timing the WC with a DGW is enough reason to hold onto it until the time's right.

It's been tried and tested u will only make 0.3 or 0.4 max u need players to rise twice most will only rise once unless u have a Suarez and Ramsey scenario again but in that case u will want to keep anyway.

Yep that's the tactic but not always easy especially if you are sat on players you want to keep who have risen in value, as selling then in and out costs you. e.g I have Suarez, Rooney and lukaku who I may keep and all have risen in value so I would lose money by taking them out and putting them back in, leaving me no forward slots to play this tactic
