Scout Notes – Gameweek 22 – Sunday

Samuel Eto’o hits a hat-trick as Chelsea ease past United at the Bridge. Nemanja Vidic is set for a three-match ban after a late red card adds to David Moyes’ woes. Emmanuel Adebayor is at the double as Spurs win at Swansea, with Wilfried Bony amongst the goals once again for the beaten Welsh side:

Eto’o Treble Sinks United
The Cameroon international was handed the lone striker role against the champions, with Fernando Torres dropping to the bench after back-to-back league starts. Eto’o more than justified Jose Mourinho’s decision by notching all the home side’s goals in the 3-1 win and, with the maximum bonus safely secured, registered a 17-point return in his manager’s 100th Premier League win as the Blues’ boss. After the game, Mourinho revealed Torres is “out for weeks” with knee ligament damage after being forced off as a late sub and subsequently talked up Demba Ba’s prospects – bearing in mind the latter has been named in the first XI just twice this season, though, Eto’o will feel he’s firmly in the driving seat for a regular run of starts now. With West Ham and Newcastle rolling up to the Bridge in the next three, the Cameroon international may well be worth a flutter – further analysis shows he has produced 51 points over his six home starts this season, drawing a blank only once in front of the Blues faithful when handed a chance from the kick-off.

Cole Back on the Blues Bench as Ivanovic Returns
Ashley Cole’s run of four straight starts came to an end as the Serbian recovered from injury to take his place in the XI. Whilst Javier Hernandez’ late consolation prevented the home side from registering a fifth clean sheet in six, the versatile Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to remain in many a wildcard plan after he shifted over to left-back at Cole’s expense – the Spaniard has now started all but one of the last 12 league matches and, at 5.3, is the cheapest on offer amongst Mourinho’s regulars. Gary Cahill also staked a claim for consideration with a 10-point haul yesterday. The former Bolton man supplied a pair of assists and has started 10 of the last 12, though the arrival of Nemanja Matic is likely to see David Luiz fielded less often in central midfield and, with the latter perhaps offering Cahill increased competition at centre-half, Azpilicueta looks a safer option right now.

Moyes’ Worries Increase At the Back
Devoid of front two Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie yet again for yesterday’s clash, the United boss also has concerns at the other end of the pitch to contend with. Moyes watched Patrice Evra limp out of proceedings early in the second period, whilst Nemanja Vidic is also set to miss the next three games in all competitions after his late dismissal for a foul on Eden Hazard. With Rio Ferdinand still doubtful with a knee problem, United’s options are stretched at the back – Moyes looks likely to partner Jonny Evans with Phil Jones or Chris Smalling for next weekend’s visit of Cardiff but, with the champions managing just two clean sheets in the last nine at Old Trafford, the Bluebirds will fancy their chances of finding the net.

Adebayor at the Double
The Togo international plundered the points once again as his Fantasy prospects go from strength to strength under Tim Sherwood. Handed the lone forward role as the new Spurs boss opted for a 4-4-1-1, with Roberto Soldado rested to the bench, Adebayor bagged a brace and maximum bonus for a 13-point return at the Liberty – since the departure of Andre Villas-Boas, Adebayor has racked up 49 points, or an average of 8.2 points per game over six appearances. Priced at just 7.8 in FPL, he’s making a persuasive case for the third forward slot alongside Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero – crucially, his consistency is also a factor, with returns in all but one of his starts under Sherwood. Home games with City and Everton and a trip to Hull in the next three are a little tricky and may deter some investors but, having played a part in eight of Spurs’ 14 goals under the new manager, he’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

Eriksen Ticking Over
The Dane headed into yesterday’s match neck-and-neck on points with Adebayor since Sherwood’s installation and, whilst he was somewhat overshadowed, still managed to deliver for his growing band of owners. Eriksen’s assist for the frontman’s first took his tally to three goals and a pair of assists in the last five matches – similarly to Adebayor, the summer signing from Ajax has been consistent in his returns, producing in all but one of the previous five now. With a bonus point also received, he’s picked up 42 points over six under Sherwood – an average of seven points per game – and, favourably priced at just 7.3, certainly looks a contender for our five-man midfields and is likely to persuade plenty Fantasy managers who cannot accommodate Adebayor up top.

Bony’s Home Comforts
It’s six goals in six home appearances for the Ivorian after his late consolation scuppered the Spurs clean sheet. Whilst the likes of Adebayor and Daniel Sturridge offer a real consistency up front, Bony has yet to produce any attacking points over nine appearances on the road this season compared to seven goals and an assist across the same number of matches at the Liberty. With Fulham, Cardiff, Palace, West Brom and Norwich the next five visitors, the 7.3-priced forward’s chances of further returns look prosperous, then, but that woeful away form needs to be improved before we can view him as a reliable Fantasy prospect.

Anyone captaining Hazard this week? Everton are a tough side on the road and Suarez home form hasn't been as explosive recently.

Haha pretty much. Balancing risk versus potential reward it just doesn't feel very lucrative. Suarez is at home and he's both the most explosive and the most consistent home player this season... what's there to think about? Not like the Meyerside derby's are usually 0-0.

Yaya Toure is having a 1 in a million season. I'm not exaggerating when I say that. We could go live to see 1 million and never see anyone outperform their numbers like this again. 15 TOTAL SHOTS ON TARGET AND HAS 11 GOALS. 73.3% CONVERSION RATE.

Anyone with even half a brain should know this isn't sustainable but here we are. 22 games in and Yaya is still spewing all over my FPL team. Take in all in guys. Now you could say why not just bring him in and ride the wave? Some might say its stubbornness or stupidity to ignore the 2nd coming of God on the field but he goes against everything I know to be true. He is currently the bain of my existence but I'll never give in. To give up now would relegate me to 'Casual'. Sorry I just needed to rant.

He's an actual force of nature this season. He's always been excellent but every time he plays now it's force majeure.

That said I haven't owned him all season and I'm still not getting him, he's too expensive for my taste and I'm going Silva on my WC. I just... agh...

We can look at stats all day, the fact of the matter is he's been banging them in all season and is in the top goal scorers list for PL. Comparing him to other central midfielders in PL he's so good it's not even funny.

In other words, stats can be twisted to say anything, and you are using them in this case to take an unjustified moral high ground against a player you just plain don't like, probably because you didn't get him early on.

So far this season. It should also be noted that he is far outstripping his own long term average. It is this reason that means my team will stay a Yaya free zone.

If he was that clinical you would just stick him up front and win everything, literally everything.

I have heard this every week for months. I get your point, it is incredible, so therefor I want to hang on to my incredible player. I feel that it is always Yaya non-owners writing these things up, almost trying to convince owners to get rid of him to make themselves feel better about not having him as he's now too expensive. He plays in a team with the most PL goals and has been part of their back bone for years. I think he has always threatened to do something like he has this year and now has really come through.
This is not a personal attack on you, but, to not have someone that consistent is a bit silly. Get rid of Suarez while you're at it.

Not long ago as in 2 years ago? Suarez had great numbers before he came to the PL also. Score alot in Holland and for uruguay. We have alot of data on Suarez that shows he's an elite striker despit his bad run when he first came to pool. Yaya's history shows nothing even close to that. He is an average finisher at best based on his history + he's 30 so don't tell me he's suddenly improved. What point are you actually trying to make?

You really hate Yaya huh? My point is that players don't get 'lucky' for 22 weeks running - obviously he has improved or he wouldn't be the second highest point scorer in the game so deep into the season. I can't be bothered with the 'paralysis by analysis', but from memory he normally does go well in FPL until around this time of the year and then jets off to ACON and after that his form drops. I haven't had a single FPL out of him so far, but some of the better managers on here have, so he must be OK. Anyway, good luck with your strategy mate.

After watching the whole game yesterday, there is zero chance of Adebayor leaving my team anytime soon... No reason he can't get a goal or two against City at home, if anything I'm sure he'll be even more fired up to do just that.

Yeah he's great for now and essential...but I hate it when a player get's such high ownership that they almost waste a space in everybody's team..as for the C choice it's good if there is a bit of a split in the C poll due to both Suarez and Aguero having like for like difficulty...Before his injury it was a an easy clear cut choice every week between them....

One good one..your fifth mid....Hull are conceding a lot of chances at the mo..more than any other team last week and that was against lowly Norwich who ran them ragged despite a low score. ..and now they are without Chester and Huddlestone... Puncheon has been topping out for touches in the box..ICT threat..shots in the box etc for two or three weeks...Puncheon as fifth mid and play him at home to Hull.

He's not necessarily a better player than last season, he's added the free kicks to his game that's for sure...

But he always got his goals from this role, it was just Mancini only ever played him there for the last 15 mins of games when they needed to score! Then he invariably would, before being put back in the the holding role the very next game. He'd probably still be City manager if he'd used him properly a bit more often!

But in answer to your question, no. Although I don't reckon he'd be that expensive.

I have Mannone and Boruc. Gives me STK, ful, STK, hul, whm, WBA, cpl, CPL, nor, WHM.

Plus, I can have Ward and Burner without doubling up.

No prob. Speroni is for me out the question becayse I want Ward without having to double. Same goes for Marshall. Boruc is proven. Been a bit dissapointed with sun cleanies lately though.

Szczesny and McGregor are also a good pair, considering Southampton have kept only 2 clean sheets in their last 13 games and they will be without Lovren as well. Arsenal have kept 9 clean sheets in their last 14 games. Szczesny has tough fixtures in gw 25 and 26 and McGregor can deputise for it.

    Who to drop for Aguero?

    1) Adebayor
    2) Suarez
    3) Hold

2FT. I'd also have to sacrifice Ozil for a 6.2 mid.

    Chetser Injury Update :

“James has unfortunately picked up a hamstring and it’s the same leg as before,” said Bruce.

“We won’t really know until he has scans, but the worry is that it’s the same leg. We’ll get him scanned and see how he is.

“Hopefully it won’t be too bad.”

Whom are you captaining this week? I know most fpl managers will captain Suarez but Everton have lost only once at home all season and have conceded only 9 goals in 12 games at home all season

Ramsey will come in for Cabaye/lallana at some point. moreover arsenal attack seem to share points between them. A few tough fixtures coming up as well.

Fair enough, it is a bit of a minefield until Ramsey comes back. Cazorla just doesn't seem the same person since Ozil joined

It really is bizarre, if the gesture he made was the very one he intended, why oh why would he have done it. A sponsor requesting this has to be a first.
