Scout Scribbles – Torres Boost For Chelsea

Fernando Torres is back in training for Chelsea. Robbie Brady is determined to return to the form of early-season. Andros Townsend and Mousa Dembele are in the frame for Tottenham this weekend, Tony Pulis discusses his attacking intentions and Steven Fletcher could be set for surgery:

TORRES BACK IN TRAINING

Forced off with a knee injury in Chelsea’s victory over Manchester United last month, Fernando Torres was expected to be on the sidlelines for up to a month, but the Spaniard has now returned to training and could be available for Newcastle’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Scout Says: Torres’ return will be yet another title-race boost for Chelsea following their victory over Manchester City on Monday evening, although the 29-year-old has a tough task ahead of him in supplanting Samuel Eto’o as Jose Mourinho’s first choice striker. However, three goals in his last four starts, with six bonus points also accrued in that time, does highlight the impact Torres can have and, should he snatch up any chance offered to him by his manager, the 8.1-priced Spaniard could establish himself as Mourinho’s number one striker and be set to reap the benefits of the creativity of Eden Hazard and Willian playing in behind him.

PULIS HAS AN EYE FOR GOALS

Tony Pulis has spoken of his Crystal Palace side’s need for goals, and is looking to his new signings to provide the spark the club need. The Eagles’ boss highlighted the talents of loanee signing Tom Ince and former Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley as possible sources for the goals he’s yearning for:

“The business we have done in January was about finding goals from all areas of the pitch. We have Tom Ince, who can score goals from out wide, and Joe Ledley who has a great goal-scoring record from midfield.”

However, Pulis also acknowledged that the imminent return of striker Glen Murray will also help provide the Eagles with attacking threat:

“Glenn is nearly fit, and so we’re going to have goals coming in from all over the pitch. We need to keep our resilience and fighting spirit, but with these three, we will be more of a threat going forward.”

The Scout Says: Having seemingly been courted by every Premier League club going, there will be few who are unaware of the talents of Tom Ince. The former Liverpool youngster, coming into the game at a price of 5.5, looks set to vie with Yannick Bolasie for a place on the wing and, should he make the step up to the top division in the manner most expect, Ince – alongside fellow new recruit Ledley – may blink on to our radars in the coming weeks. Glen Murray’s long-awaited return since picking up an ankle injury last May might well also give managers something to chew over. The 5.2-priced forward’s goal scoring ability is undeniable and, should Pulis be true to his word and focus upon a more attacking style in the hunt to avoid relegation, both Murray and fellow frontman Marouane Chamakh could be worth consideration in the budget bracket.

BRADY EYES RETURN TO EARLY-SEASON FORM

Hull City’s Robbie Brady has undoubtedly experienced a year of ups and downs, notching three strikes between the start of the season and Gameweek 6, before falling rapidly out of favour due to an ongoing hernia problem. Having then picked up a groin injury at the start of December, Brady had to wait till last weekend’s draw with Tottenham to make his return, but the young winger is feeling optimistic over his chances of having  an impact on his side’s prospects over the remainder of the season:

“I felt as though I had an okay start to the season and now I just want to get back and keep on playing. The groin feels a lot better than it did, although it is still ‘at me’ a little bit but that will go away as the weeks go by. It’s felt like problem after problem in the last few months…but hopefully it’s all sorted now. Hopefully I can get a few more goals now because it feels like ages since I last scored. But to be honest, I don’t mind who is scoring as long as we’re getting goals.”

The Scout Says: A firm budget favourite at the start of the season, Brady’s return from injury could be set to hand managers the chance to reap the benefits of his price-tag yet again for the latter stages of the campaign. Now down to just 4.7, the fact that he was immediately handed a start last weekend bodes well for the former Manchester United youngster, although his comments surrounding his groin might well put prospective owners off investing immediately. Nonetheless, the likelihood that he will still be on penalty duties along with a good run of fixtures in the next five (sun, SOU, car, NEW, whm) means Brady undeniably has the platform to reignite his, and his side’s, season.

TOWNSEND AND DEMBELE ON COURSE FOR COMEBACK

Tim Sherwood has revealed that Andros Townsend may feature for his side for the first time since mid-December, with Moussa Dembele also set to return from injury this Saturday against Everton:

“We’re positive on Andros and he has a chance (for Everton), he’s up for selection. (Dembele’s) fine. He’s back out training again and he’s in the frame to start against Everton.”

The Scout Says: Managers will be on alert as a return to full fitness and form for Townsend could provide us with yet another budget midfield option from here on in. Truth be told, the young winger failed to turn his stats into Fantasy returns for the first part of the season but, should he be able to overturn this trend, may well bag himself some Fantasy suitors over the remainder of the campaign as well as a seat on the plane to Brazil this summer. Meanwhile, whilst Dembele is hardly top of anyone’s Watchlist right now, his return to the double-pivot will provide cover for Spur’s backline, strengthening the appeal of the north London side’s defensive assets ahead of a decent short-term fixture list (EVE, new, nor, CAR).

POYET FEARS FOR FLETCHER

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet finds himself amid a dilemma as he must choose whether to allow Steven Fletcher to undergo surgery and see him miss out for the rest of the season, or delay surgery and keep the Scot available for the remainder of their relegation scrap. Having discovered that the striker’s ongoing Achilles injury is worse than first feared, Poyet now faces a tough decision over whether to continue to risk Fletcher as the weeks go by:

“It’s affecting him more than I thought. I’m a bit worried about it. We’re analysing it with the medical staff. But we’re going to have to make a decision one way or the other. We’ll have to look at the games ahead and the chance of rest in between, but we’ll need to make a strong decision.”

The Scout Says: News of Fletcher’s injury problems won’t have too much impact on the Fantasy landscape, with the Scot owned by just 0.1% of managers in the Fantasy Premier League. Additionally, should Poyet choose not to let him undergo surgery, Fletcher will presumably be used primarily as a substitute, thus diminishing his Fantasy prospects even further. On the other hand, the likes of Jozy Altidore and Fabio Borini look set to benefit from the Scot’s situation, as both would appear to be nailed on in his absence. Borini, available for just 6.2, has delivered three goals and two assists in his last three games and may just present himself as a canny option going into the latter part of the season.

This is also what I want to know. I feel like loading up on City for their good run but the potential blanks is worrying.

Another option is to transfer players in & out, useful for people who are buying Yaya now because they lose no value while early adopters are forced to hold……well thats about the only good point I can get out of not having Yaya!

As for Manu U, I don't think RVP offers value…yet…but that could change. Therefore Mata could become almost essential for coverage. No other options really appealing to me, even Rooney is playing too deep to be worth the investment. IMO.

        Hello 'casters,
Will this be the week to not captain Suarez....especially for the teams who have Sturridge and Suarez.

For those having both Liverpool forwards against a tough Arsenal defence, it might not be a bad idea to hedge and not captain Liverpool this week. If Liverpool score a brace then still covered, and I can't see them scoring more than that.

Alternative Captains being Mata (for me), but most teams will have Hazard or some will have RVP.

Everyone on this site is a sheep they follow the herd mentality. Yaya Toure he is doing well lets get him in good fixtures. NO wrong
Andy Carrol is back Kevin Nolan is 2.7k cheaper and benefits of Carrol's headers get him in
      result= 13 point difference
Mata is going to united, oh he has a track record of scoring well, get him in immediately without assessing the situation. NO united are in terrible form and mata is not playing as advanced due to 2 strikers rather than 1 at chelsea.
Mirallas- Playing as a lone striker against a team in poor form- doesn't score from open play, but still scores a goal.
      result= 2k cheaper 3 more points.
RVP= 14k he is back- last year scored lots of goals. Oh now he is not injured he will immediately be the best player.
Borini- sunderland in great form- 7k cheaper, he has been scoring goals in the league cup and is on pens. Sunderland score 3 against a tougher opposition than united who score 1.
      Result 6 point difference.

Use your brain if you want to climb the rankings- look for differentials, but differentials that have a track record of scoring, that have potential, signs/shots on goal are pointing to an upturn in points.

Here are 3 I will point out
Charlie Adam- Excellent home fixtures- focal point of side in terms of set pieces and play, stoke are scoring lots of goals at home.
Pablo Zabaleta- will not be rotated, despite the n/a in gameweek 28, city's fixtures for defensive prospects are excellent. Also Silva pushes across that side and navas does not push extremely high- so he will push forward and create attacking chances.
Swansea Defence- The New coach effect anyone? Gary Monk a defender? Swansea grinding out results? Williams and Chico goal threat along with bonus points- yes please
West Ham defence- it's cheap reid is back they will look to clean sheats again- if you want someone nailed on- guy demel, for a risk mccartney.

ok, lets go through this shall we?

Yaya - proven goal scorer, has a deal with the devil to get a lot of luck. Plays for a better team then Nolan, is a better player then Nolan and doesn't have to rely on one attacking partner to provide knockdowns.
Mata, proven assister, already has 14 points from two games, will play every game, no threat of rotation, and is feeding two of the best forwards in the league. Mirallas, threat of rotation, will not be playing as far forward for long, selfish and wastes chances.
RVP -previous years best striker. Monopoly on most things, such as pens. Borini. Not even first choice forward (Altidore, Fletcher) horrendous fixtures.

I don't even know why I am doing this.

                  1) Your rank is in someway correlated to your decision making since it's your strategy that earns you your points. Especially at this stage of the season. Luck holds a bearing, but its a weaker force as the season draws on - hence the crew rise to the top.

                  2) You have 2 teams. Neither have breached the top 100,000. I'm not saying that is rubbish (i'd be very happy with top 100K this year) but you have to remember you are talking among some very good FPL managers here. I offer advice too, but i always offer it with caution because a) you don't know anything in the future with certainty, b) you don't have the credentials to be forceful in your argument.

                  3) TMs leagues are awesome. He is contributing to the community on several levels and this is one of them.

                    3) I have been annoyed and tm before and people agree
                    1) my rank is correlated to my ability of not taking it seriously and taking ridiculous hits because I know me along with everyone else on ehre will never ever come first

lol, this one is a joke, right?

My favourite part was when you built up an argument for NOT speculating over an upturn in form (Mata, RVP) despite previous credentials when nailed on/fit, and then speculated that Swansea will completely change their ethos (even with a recent Scout article suggesting they'll stick with older principles) and have a huge upturn in form.

            😀

Then i read the WHU recommendation and realised you were serious 😯

There current principles are to hold the ball and remain compact, previously there defensive record has been outstanding for a club there size, Laudrap didnt want to be at the club so had to go. Ashley and Chico are terrific defenders and some sort of desire will help revitalize there amount of clean sheats

I agree with the first part, the Laudrup but is further speculation.

Swansea's defence could well improve, but i think it is a greater speculation than backing Mata or RVP since they are of proven pedigree, have shown encouraging signs in the last two games and rely less on the performance of the rest of the team simply by field positioning and set piece roles.

Hence, i thought the whole "don't speculate, SPECULATE!" argument funny.

when I say I don't try doesnt mean I am not good it means I got frustrated and took ridiculous hits because I knew I was too far away. Whilst others would make sensible decisions and try and get a top 20k rank.

I still have a good judgment of teams performances and fpl strategies. I think swansea and west ham will rely on there defense because of the fact that the 2 key cogs in there side are injured/suspended. Michu scored 20 goals last year- that is a huge loss for a mid table side and carrol despite what people see is invaluable to west ham- p.s. i brought in nolan that round.

In regards to adam and zabaleta I think they are fpl players that have proven in the past they can score points- they also have fixtures in there favour.
Therefore they offer better value then the mata's, the rvp's and co, because neither of those 2 have got 2 digit hauls in the last 10 gw's. United also don't have great fixtures- arsenal away is a terrible fixture particularly for goal scoring and who says that with there poor form that they will score 3-4 against fulham.

The herd mentality is really annoying me though all I say when i scroll through the pages is ozi> Yaya, ozil>hazard, aguero> rvp.
Silly questions are just frustrating me

Gargatron is telling me I'm only 15 points away from a top 5k place.

Think I'm going to play safe and (c) Suarez.

Or is is an excellent time NOT to captain Suarez and gain those 15 points?
What are u hoping for at best with Suarez? 1 goal? 2 goals?
Im biased, I´´ll admit that, but I cant see him scoring more than 1 goal

Id def play Gabbidon, so that leaves choice between turner and HBA. Think you should always go for the more attacking player in that situation. Cardiff havent kept a clean sheet since mid dec and derbies are always unpredictable and card v swan could be a card-fest.

            Id go HBA

collins 4.1, easier fixtures than ward 4.2 and money saved?

I really think the United fixture this week is a bit of a red herring. After all United are still terrible. I'd expect city to score more than United this week and then next week United have a tough fixture. I've seen people transferring Sturridge out for rvp which is madness imo. I'm not convinced rvp will outscore the likes of Sturridge and negredo this week let alone over the next few weeks

I got RVP on my WC for a nice differential in my ML, so far it has worked, but if I didn't already have him I wouldn't be breaking my neck to get him in.

As you say, United are still far from convincing.
