The Community Round Up

Despite double Gameweek selections dominating the chatter, the Fantasy Football Scout community were looking further ahead in the bid to grasp mini-league glory. Midfield options came under close scrutiny, as did the potential shuffle of Man City’s attacking options given the return of Sergio Aguero. We look back on those notable discussions and revisit the shout-out to some of our most helpful posters, whilst also catching up with the latest from the community’s tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

After a cavalcade of Gameweek 33 hauls from the likes of Steven Gerrard, Juan Mata and Christian Eriksen, the community were pre-occupied by the options available in the midfield leading into this weekend’s deadline. For HVT one or more of Southampton’s Adam Lallana, Eriksen and Arsenal’s fit-again Aaron Ramsey were key to helping secure a strong season run-in. Irish Madrista also focused on Eriksen as a pivotal player for the remaining Gameweeks.

With such an abundance of choice in the middle of the park and the schedule toughening for the popular third slot striker, Romelu Lukaku, we asked whether we could perhaps be witnessing the return of the “Power Five” in midfield. Established last season via the quintet of Gareth Bale, Mata, Theo Walcott, Marouane Fellaini and Michu, we’ve never quite seen the equivalent this time around, with a front three dominating. As the season draws to a close, however, there are some likely candidates pushing for inclusion with Mata, Lallana, Yaya Toure/David Silva, Eriksen and Gerrard all constructing a strong case for inclusion as the season draws to a close. Daniel was among those who welcomed the security this powerhouse of midfield players provides, although Qubit stressed that he just can’t see the pricey front three surrendering its grip on our squads over the final Gameweeks.

City’s Sergio Aguero is one player who could assure that cash remains up top. The Argentine returned to our thinking for the double Gameweek and saw action at Anfield today from the bench, with the potentially profitable midweek Etihad clash with Sunderland to come. Despite his return to fitness, Your Mum’s Athletic urged caution on acquiring the City hitman. He argued that Edin Dzeko could still offer a cheaper and effective alternative to the Argentine and with a potential 4-4-2 on show against the Black Cats, he may just have a point.

Potential investors in Mata were also being encouraged to consider their options. We underlined the fact that the United playmaker’s big points hauls have perhaps been aided by the freedom of central attacking role during the absence of one or both of van Persie and Wayne Rooney. We asked whether you felt that Mata could still be as effective should they both recover from injury, perhaps forcing him back out wide. Baines on Toast was among those concerned that David Moyes may struggle to retain Mata in his preferred role should his principal strikers return to fitness.

Those regularly name checked in our weekly round-up can deservedly consider themselves among some of our most helpful posters and, on that subject, It’s Only A Game thought it was about time those and others got some further recognition. His hot topic asked for the community to nominate their favourite good Samaritans. Among those to come in for praise were our team news guru Demi, Members table maestro Wakey and former Hall of Fame leader Evs.

Hooperman is another poster emerging as a vital contributor – particularly for those looking for the inside track on his beloved Norwich. Upon arrival of Neil Adams in the Canaries hotseat, Hooperman was on hand to offer insight on the anticipated teamsheet changes – nailing his lineup at Fulham. Keep an eye on his stuff next term if Norwich can salvage their Premier League status.

Finally, with just a few Gameweek’s left in the tank, we enquired on your remaining ambitions from the campaign and whether you still have some motivation to push up the ranks. With £400 in mini-league cash and “bragging rights” at stake, Kings of Lyon was certainly keeping his eye on the ball. Meanwhile, Yess the Sess chirped up to state his desire to claim a top 1,000 placing, an achievement he missed last season by the tiniest of margins.

The Community Tournaments

In HeelsOver Head’s Worst to First- 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, first placed Teltzham Hotspurs is up to 1,753rd . For the first time this season he has been joined by more than one other manager in the top 10,000. YOLO Toure rocketed up to 7,402nd after Gameweek 33 and Bales of Fury has an overall rank of 8,396.

The joint winner of Gameweek 33’s Scout Pick Challenge, which is loosely based on our own Scout Picks and has been created by @ocprodigy, were Suarezista and Beavis on 77pts.

In TorresMagic‘s leagues, Enzo the Baker topped his Last Man Standing League where eight were knocked out at the Gameweek 33 stage, leaving 17 to fight out the last four rounds. His FPL Open and Elite 16 are now down to the last 16.

DanyRex25 and our Sky expert D1sable emerged victorious in AZ’s FFS Non-Qualifiers Cup semi-finals. They are currently battling it out during Gameweek 34’s final for the chance to lift this coveted cup, for those that failed to qualify for our own recent Paddy Power Cup.

In the Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators league Spencer continued to cling on to first place after Gameweek 33, but only just with his limited transfers made giving him the edge.

Which Chelsea player(s) are going to reap the benefits of Sunderland playing Man City midweek?

    A few thoughts...

Am considering Salah seeing as he can't play in the CL.
Oscar looks low on confidence recently.
    Schurrle's performances have been erratic.
Hazard, I think will be kept fresh for CL over the next couple of weeks.

Lukaku > Ba??? Still, I can't forget Lukaku running wild against United on the last day of the season last year.

True, but there's got to be some goals scored in this one.

Think I'll give Mirallas + Gnabry the chop, for Eriksen and Salah, and bench Yaya. Doesn't feel right transferring Mirallas out before a home game, even if it is United. Martinez didn't even bring him on vs Sunderland, so I think he has the Palace and United home games in mind for Mirallas.

Without Hazard, Chelsea don't really have a someone who can run with the ball. I think Salah's pace offers them something different, so he may well be my punt this week.

The advice with Yaya is wait for news, but are City really going to come out tomorrow and say how long he's out for, similar to hazard last week and we still don't know when he is back.

Want to bring in Eriksen who goes up tonight, very frustrating!

Does my nut in. He's a proper sheep... will come on here, look at the Scout Picks and then make his transfer. He's practically 100 points ahead, rank 2k going into this GW, and is now bringing in the players that are doing well in the 2nd and 3rd place teams. He jumped on the likes of Yaya Toure and Ramsey very early on.

He did will last year too so he definitely has some ability, but this site really doesn't help at times in identifying the best picks (he doesn't use the Opta stats, as far as I know).

Nice! Still, use the instincts that made you top dog in the first place.

Sunderland will be playing their 3rd game in 8 days vs Chelsea at the weekend. Probably off the back of a drubbing against Citeh, why not take anticipate what your ML rivals will be looking to do?

Sterling looks a good bet against Norwich, as does the obvious Erikson pick against Fulham. Gerrard now clear from the threat of being banned for 2 games if he picks up another YC, too.

Might be worth keeping hold of Lukaku for one more game at home to United.

              All fun and games 🙂

The original post was rather sarcastic by copying his whole team. It's more of a case where they copied my team. They have expensive defenders whereas I have cheap defenders & always play 3 at the back. I'm thinking of putting in silva for Yaya if he's out for wks. Silva was impressive today!

I'm waiting for some more information. People on here have some agenda about him and penos, yet say nothing about the amount Hazard has had when Lampard has been off the park. Yaya has changed as a fantasy prospect this season, not solely down to penos, less so free kicks as I can't remember when he last tucked one away.

Anyways, I'm waiting on news, and if fit he is staying put regardless of agueros return

With all the injury news I feel I can wait on Aguero, even though he's rising as so many big hitters are freeing up cash. I wanted to do Lukaku to Aguero and Hazard to Ramsey. But do you guys think I should just be patient?
Yaya to Silva could also wait a bit I suppose.

Copy of the 3rd e-mail I sent regarding the Distin error, since my first two apparently merited no response. I realize some of you received a reply. I did not, despite my civil tone which I did not maintain in this one:

    "AHEM!!! HELLOOOOO!!!!

Sylvain Distin received a yellow card in the Sunderland v Everton match. Everyone knows this happened. You were made aware of your error yesterday well before any points were finalized. Correct your dumb ass mistake and adjust the bonus points accordingly. Jesus H. Christ! If you can't get something this simple right, how do you expect to convince people to cough up money for a pay version of this game?"

Seriously, what's next? Are they just going to randomly pretend certain players didn't even play in matches and take those points away too?

      Someone got a response:

In-game data is provided by Opta and their decision is taken as final. Unfortunately, it appears as though they may have missed Distins' yellow card.

      However, from the rules:
'For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change up until one hour after the final whistle of the last match of any given day. Once the points have all been updated on that day, no further adjustments to points will be made.'

As this deadline has now passed, the yellow card will not be updated on the FPL site, therefore the 3 bonus points for Distin will remain.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Ridiculous. First Flukaku ghost assists now this BS!

Why does the deadline have to be so soon? There's no reason points can't be changed weeks after the fact. Even if we're talking about gw 38, just don't make the final results official until all the year end stats have become official.

Yeah, I guess this has to fall under the cliche, "You get what you pay for." Maybe when there is a pay game going, they will actually have someone on staff actually watch the matches. You know, so maybe they'll know what the hell's going on like the rest of us.

If they know they have such a strict deadline, why don't they have have somebody around during that hour checking their email? Or did nobody bother to send them one until much later?

Now you know, if there's anything at all you need to be emailing them about it as it's happening or it'll never get fixed. Unless they decide to.

If those websites were at all relevant to me, I would. FPL should fix their own errors, regardless of whether the others fix theirs. Would the FA not have given Distin a ban if that had been his 10th yellow, since certain websites didn't report it? Or should I be afraid the answer to that might be yes?

My transfers has been dire lately.

    I did

    Mata -> Silva (GW 31) -> Yaya (GW 32)
Mata scored 37 pts since then.
Silva scored 9 when I had him and Yaya 31pts when I didn't
Now Silva scored 28 when I didn't had him and Yaya 8 😉

    Also

    Lallana -> Sterling (GW 30) -> Mirallas (GW34)
    Same story..

    A. Snodgrass -> Mata (and Boruc -> Mannone -4 if Boruc is still injured)
    B. Snodgrass -> Eriksen (and Boruc -> De Gea* -4 if Boruc is still injured)
