The Community Round Up

Manchester United’s managerial merry-go-round and Jose Mourinho’s mindgames provided the main focus of this week’s discussion on the site. We catch up on the community’s thoughts on how fixture congestion and David Moyes’ sacking will effect teamsheets over the final three Gameweeks. Our man in Burnley discusses his side’s promotion to the Premier League and we also take a tour of the community’s Fantasy Football fortune-telling booths. As ever, we look at the ups and downs in the community leagues, including two managers’ tussle for a rather smart jacket to keep them warm for next season.

The Hottest Topics

The community’s crystal-ball gazers were out in full force this week. Many attempted to peer into the future and assess what effect both David Moyes’ departure from Manchester United and Chelsea’s Champions League aspirations would have on their teamsheets this weekend and beyond.

Moyes’ removal from the Old Trafford hotseat and subsequent appointment of Ryan Giggs as interim manager provoked one of the biggest bouts of clairvoyance when we asked where next for the Red Devil’s Fantasy assets? RonH believed the second change in management in a year will take time to bed in and their players should be treated with caution. Meanwhile, Carrick Deserves More Mata foresees significant bench positioning for Moyes signing Marouane Fellaini – the Belgian wasn’t even amongst the subs yesterday.

The fate of Wayne Rooney under the temporary Giggs reign was also a source of debate. The Sarjeant sees goals, assists and bonus points in the striker’s future and urged the community to draft him in for the season finale. Christina, however, suggests caution – his research reveals that Rooney is not as consistent at home against teams in the bottom half of the table, though Rooney managed to dispel that theory with a 13-point return in yesterday’s rout.

Chelsea’s upcoming teamsheets were also hotly discussed after Jose Mourinho threatened to ring the changes in order to deal with the fixture congestion caused by his side’s Champions League progress. In Isacki’s discussion on Mourinho’s famous mindgames, The Shadow was sceptical of the Chelsea manager’s talk and believes Mourinho is merely deflecting attention away from the Blues’ lack of striker options – Mourinho was true to his word, though, and made seven alterations to his side in this afternoon’s win at Anfield.

The Sarjeant was back again at his fortune-telling booth later this week to challenge the community to predict this weekend’s scores. Visit his Punters Predictions hot topic here to see which of you has been closest to guessing Gameweek 36’s results so far.

As the season draws to a close, tactical changes, points hits and risks become more commonplace, according to Jafalad, as Fantasy managers look to consolidate or snatch mini-league glory. His end-of-season tips provided some excellent ideas on ensuring the final few Gameweeks are a success.

Burnley fan Sif had much to celebrate this week after the Turf Moor outfit confirmed their promotion back into the Premier League. He has kindly shared his inside knowledge of their players to offer us some potentially lucrative budget options for next season – the community has clearly taken note, with one of his tips, Kieran Trippier, among a raft of 2014/15 prospects mentioned in MJ6987’s hot topic on next season’s key players.

The Community Tournaments

In the Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators league Spencer continued in front after Gameweek 35, albeit with a reduced lead of 10 points.

Elsewhere, Zan Keroski’s impressive tally of 93pts was enough to scoop first place in @ocprodigy’s Gameweek 35 Scout Pick Challenge.

In TorresMagic‘s Leagues, five were eliminated from his Last Man Standing league, leaving six to fight in the last two rounds. His FPL Open and Elite 64 competitions have reached the semi-final stage.

Teddy’s Ironman competition has seen that chap Jonty take the lead, after retaining top spot in the competition’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and third in the Sky and Metro leagues. Bonz is in second overall and In Like Flynn rises to third due to his unassailable lead in the Metro league and an upturn in FPL form. Gigging Order continues to top the Sky league.

In Kings of Lyon’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire league, for those with a rank outside of the top 1,000,000 at the Gameweek 8 mark, Elizabeth Genius clung onto the lead despite slipping to 4,028 overall. John Woods is just ten points behind after rising to 5,507 in the overall rankngs.

Gnu’s Wigan To Me… head to head league is heading for a nail-biting conclusion with Damo and  Jonty  battling it out for this competition’s top prize, a Barbour jacket.

I'd keep Ramsey for a start. I think Giggs would like to play the same back four every game now but, given his age and history, Ferdinand may be the weak link who needs a rest

I would put my money on Ferdinand being rested against Sunderland and started against Hull, which will be his last hurrah at Old Trafford. I'm guessing the same goes for Vidic, though he may get both games.

Anyway, it seems I have to leave points on the bench.

Chester(mun, avl), Koscielny(WBA), Assaidi(FUL) - might be some serious points there, but that applies for any combination it seems.

Plans 'Yaya in' vs plan 'Yayaless'

    a) Coleman, Jones, Yaya

No pens, less set pieces generally and could be played in midfield like he was when Hernandez came on at the weekend.

  15. Nasri -> Yaya for a hit?
    President John F. Keninnsie
    • 10 Years
    10 years, 1 month ago

I'm not the only one debating whether Nasri -> Yaya is worth a hit, so I've done a little bit of research..

    Nasri
    - PPG: 4.3
    - 2232 minutes played
    - Played full 90 mins: 10/26 games
    - 6 goals, 9 assists, 10 bonus
    - 9.2% ownership

    Yaya
    - PPG: 6.8
    - 2677 minutes played
    - Played full 90 mins: 27/34 games
    - 19 goals, 6 assists, 33 bonus
    - 33.2% ownership (and rising!)

From these stats it's crystal clear that Yaya is the better option. There are other stats (e.g touches in the box) that are important and give an indication of who the better pick is, but I'll leave that to the members to have a look at 🙂

    Overall:
    - Yaya is the bigger goal threat
    - Nasri is the bigger assist threat
    - Nasri is more of a differential and is more prone to early substitutions

Obviously Yaya's stats are skewed by the fact he's had his fair share of penalties while Aguero was injured. There's also a small doubt around how his injury is affecting him and if he'll play 90 mins in both games in the DGW. If you're chasing in your ML, Nasri may be the riskier but better option, as most smart ML leaders will look to get the Ivorian in.

Considering all of the above, I think Yaya is definitely a more explosive and more consistent pick than Nasri and will score atleast 4 points more than the Frenchman over the final 3 games of the season. I will be doing Nasri > Yaya this week and am expecting immediate returns in the DGW 🙂

Your conclusions fail to take into account:

      - Aguero is probably on penalties now, reducing Yaya's goal threat
      - Nasri is more like to get more minutes now, as Silva is out & Yaya is being eased back in

The point missing is City has more better players than YAYA. but this guy is hardworking champ.

Its seriously not worth the hit. The lack of penalties and the fact he might get subbed off early in both games seriously reduces his opportunities for points. Having Nasri and an extra 4 points is the way to go imo, he'll likely get more game time as well. All of this skews their average points per game.

My judgement might be a bit clouded by his returns against Palace, I think if he blanked then I'd be comfortable without him. He's definitely a player that can do a lot of damage though, DGW31 showed it's a massive risk to go without him.

The stats also do not include the loss of opportunity in mking another transfer.

For example, someone spending -4 to take out Nasri for Yaya may of been able to spend those points in another area for greater benefit, by taking out a player much worse than Nasri

                Mannone
                Azpilicueta/Vidic/Baines

Im either looking to play 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 by dropping one of these lot for a DGW player. Whats on are Delph/Albrighton/Alonso/Giaccherini/Dorrans who look the best from what is available. I could otherwise hold what I have.

Morning chaps 😀 (and the odd chapette too..)

Desperately need a massive Arsenal win tonight..

Are many people getting in Wickham? He looks exactly what Sunderland need, a target up front, and he's in great form.. But is he worth an extra 4 points over Podolski for the run in?

I'm thinking he might be worth the hit, allows me to also potentially get any defender in the game other than City too for a further hit to get a DGW defender.. Whatcha think?

Alternatively, I can just sit back and relax and not take any hits 😎

    Mannone {-} Given
    Azpi {-} Cahill {-} Koscielny {-} Ward {-} Williamson
    Ramsey {-} Eriksen {-} Yaya {-} Nasri {-} Mata
    Rooney {-} Aguero {-} Podolski

Would you take a -4 to get in DGW Wickham over SGW Podolski?

        Already done Gerrard -> Yaya..

Gerrard --> Yaya good move...Podolski seems to be in form..I would wait till tonight..see how Podolski performs...if he scores another Brace keep him (because Sunderland is playing 1 game against United and might not do anything)...injuries might also happen..so wait till tonight...and then decide..

    Which moves before the DGW?

    A) Puncheon and Coleman to Nasri and Ferdinand
    B) Coleman and Ward to Evra and Demi

    1,7 in the bank

    Have the following team:

    Mannone (Boruc)
    Coleman, Chester, Apzi (McCartney, Ward)
    Yaya, Mata, Ramsey, Puncheon (Noone)
    Rooney, Aguero, Suarez

Mert isn't really worth the extra million over Koscielny, both very similar goal and BAP threat.

Last week might have been the week to get in an Arsenal defender though, I got in Kos for Newcastle and WBA, not so much GW38 away to Norwich..
