Echiejile of Nigeria has been confirmed as out for the World Cup. I don't know who will replace him in the starting line-up but Uzoenyi who is his squad replacement is highly rated.

    Thanks for this useful information.
Just wanted to point out that most French media reckon, from what has been said in pressers and from the friendlies, that Giroud will play as striker with Benzema moved to the left. Also, Varane will start ahead of Koscielny.

Welbeck has an injury apparently and its widely speculated that he'll miss the opener with Sterling coming in. One to keep an eye on though definitely.

There's also some debate as to whether Griezman or Giroud will start for France.
Luizao is French and reckon's the gooner will start having played well in the final three friendlies:

looks a bit different from most others. Pretty solid all round.

Croation defence is an interesting one, no love for the swiss?

Like Alba in there, he has a decent record at tournaments too.

The Toure brothers are also unlikely to feature, especially as Kolo has malaria (for the second time):

That is some great work, Parm. Cheers.
But there are some doubts I have, which I would like to point out.

    1. Griezmann is not necessarily favored by Deschamps. Ribery's injury had been feared before, so the coach initially tried a two striker formation with Remy and Giroud, until Benzema came into the side. Griezmann is likely to be a super sub, and nothing more.

    2. Vincent Aboubakar has not started any of the pre-season friendlies, with Chupo-Moting being favoured instead. He is not necessarily a wideman, and doesn't fit the bill in a 4-3-3.

    3. All of Belgium's matches have seen the prevalence of a 4-2-3-1. There is NO reason why they should move to a 4-3-3. Mirallas or Mertens will essentially take the other wide position alongside Hazard, and Dembele dropping out.

    4. Katikani's terrible form forced the Japan manager to try a 4-4-2 with Honda and Kagawa in the most advanced positions. SInce it has reaped rewards, don't see any reason why they wouldn't continue that.

    5. Podolski continues to be the only like-for-like replacement for Reus. There is no chance Gotze will play wide. Schurrle might be a distant option, but the 'likely' lineup will see Podolski play there.

    Ta.

      1) Disagree on Griezmann, him being the only like for like replacement for Ribery enhances his chances of starting, not to mention his form during the season and recent friendlies. If Deschamps plays with Benzema through the middle, then it's likely Griezmann will compete with Remy on the left. Nobody knows what Deschamps is thinking though, and he could change his lineup depending on the opponent. Don't understand how you've concluded that he's only likely to be a super sub though, do you have inside info?

      2) Sounds very much like Aboubakar will start here: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/may/31/world-cup-2014-cameroon-vincent-aboubakar
The excellent @Zonal_Marking also expects him to start with Chupo-Moting, not necessarily instead of.

      4) Japan's forward will be either Katikani or Osaka according to Zonal_Marking, not sure where you've seen Honda/Kagawa both upfront, but would like to see your source for that.

      5) The likely lineup according to who? Zonal Marking once again thinks Schurrle could start there. He has a similar direct running style to Reus, and is more adept at taking people on than Podolski. http://www.zonalmarking.net/2014/06/10/germany-world-cup-2014/ . Also, if Klose starts upfront, then surely Gotze becomes an option on the wing? PB has stated on a few occasions that Gotze false 9 hasn't worked very well, iirc.

        2) Then well, I'd like a mention of Chupo-Moting as well, especially when he is the guy who started the most friendlies. You could put Aboubakar in Webo's place, no harm done.

        4) You would like to see this, Japan's last friendly. http://za.soccerway.com/matches/2014/06/07/world/friendlies/japan/zambia/1665094/?ICID=PL_MS_121
And well, a friend of mine coincided with this lineup, telling me that Honda & Kagawa were the most advanced players in the lineup.

        5) There is no indication that Gotze MUST start. I mean, if the false nine experiment doesn't work, he could very well be on the bench. And I'd be VERY surprised to see Podolski not start against Portugal, a German friend of mine coincides on that. Actually, Ozil's position could well be under threat from Gotze.

          2) Reason he hasn't started friendlies has been due to injury in recent weeks. Agree that Chupo-Moting and Webo are probably ahead of him, but wouldn't rule him out of getting some action too.

          4) I'm not sure i trust soccerway formations, plus it was only really a friendly, so might give no real indication as to how they will line up in the real thing.

          5) Agree that Gotze doesn't have to start, but main gripe was you having Podolski as definitely being the replacement for Reus, when it could easilly be Schurrle.

Nah don't say that, you have as much a right to voice your opinions as anyone else on here. This discussion is all good, as we can have different thoughts and arrive to likely scenarios. I hardly knew any of the starting XI from several of the nations participating, so the wonderful articles on here and on the rest of the internet have been extremely useful.

Same here, actually it is pretty difficult to predict a lineup in a tournament. All we can talk about is likely lineups, and there are surely differences of opinion on that.

How do you see the German midfield for game 1? I'm playing a Danish Fantasy league, where you can trade players between each round (players will fluctuate, and it will cost you 1% to swap players.)

Now I'm between Ozil, Shurlle or Gotze... Ozil at 6.0, Schurlle at 4.0, gotze at 5.5. (got 50 mil in total to buy players for)

All that counts is play time, goals and assists. nothing else.

I'm with Ozil so far, you reckon he will play at least 45 minutes pr game?

Great work Parm and Jonty. Really useful to have this ahead of each Matchday. Just some typos to correct(sorry to be that guy)

    Samaras, not Samras
    Khedira, not Keidira
    Herrera, not Herrara
    Messi(C), not Di Maria(C)

Echiejile has been ruled out, and is expected to be replaced by Oshaniwa according to this excellent guide:
    http://www.zonalmarking.net/2014/06/10/nigeria-midfield-questions/

Castillo for Ecuador has also withdrawn from the squad due to injury and will likely be replaced in the starting XI by Gruezo

Also for France, word seems to be that Varane and Sakho will be paired in central defence. Recent tweet:

    FFW @FrenchFtWeekly · 2h
Koscielny also appears to have accepted that he might be France's 3rd choice CB at WC to start with.

Against Argentina, i'm not quite sure Misimovic will play, and think it's more likely Hajrovic comes into the side on the right-wing, with Pjanic as the attacking mid.

Yeah he should be there. Also Jonty, Lahm is apparently expected to start in midfield for Germany, so would put Boateng at right-back, and draft Hummels in the centre

Not necessarily. Schwensteiger, Kroos and Khedira are all options in the middle of the park, and you would need somebody of Lahm's calibre on the right to stop Ronaldo. 😉

they dropped him and it worked, i'd be worried. he probably needs boateng to be needed at rb or lb

Didn';t know this. Interesting. Mertesacker and Boateng(for versatility) the only real nailed on options in that defence then?

was one of those situations where a partnership simply didn't work and it wasn't obvious why, but mertesacker and hummels kept getting abused. they tried boateng and mertesacker and suddenly the clean sheets came.
i'd be less confidenct saying mert is nailed but yeah, him, boateng (ironically not as nailed if needed at full back) and lahm most likely ones

          * this was about 6 months to a year ago, so something may have changed since but with hummels injured for so long i doubt it

No, Martinez has been regarded as the ideal Falcao replacement.
Bacca and Gutierrez both are basically support strikers.

Croatian expert thinks this will be their lineup vs Brazil, with Kovacic wide

    @AlexHoliga 1m
My best guess of #CRO XI vs #BRA Pletikosa - Srna, Ćorluka, Schildenfeld, Vrsaljko - Vukojević, Modrić - Perišić, Rakitić, Kovačić - Olić.

this thread should be purged of all posts strictly self-serving or displaying distinct desperation. such as this one. after it has served it's purpose. great idea by the way. just think it'd be easier to discern the useful addenda if RMTs n sh!t were removed
