Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 12 – The Weak

After casting an eye over those teams with some kind schedules to follow last Friday afternoon, we turn our attentions to those with less fortunate fixtures. Sunderland and Hull will do well to steer clear of the drop zone, whilst Stoke face a tough task to retain their current mid-table comforts.

Stoke

“frisking

A plum home clash with Burnley precedes an evil looking run of matches which pits the Potters against Liverpool, United, Arsenal and Chelsea in the subsequent five. Stoke have struggled for defensive returns, with just two clean sheets all season, and Ryan Shawcross’ 12% FPL owners will be thinking of jumping ship here – as indeed will the 7% still keeping faith with Asmir Begovic.

Further up the field, Mark Hughes’ side have stepped up their attacking threat and have notched twice in three of the last four, with only Southampton keeping them out. If they are to prosper, Victor Moses – with a goal or assist in five of the last seven – looks key here, whilst Hughes will be hoping that Bojan Krkic’s goal in a 2-1 win at Spurs last time out is a sign that the Spaniard is finally set to make an impact.

Sunderland

“frisking

The Black Cats’ tails will be up after taking four points in the previous two matches, including a home draw with Everton last time around. Gus Poyet’s side face a testing next few weeks, however, with back-to-back showdowns against Chelsea, City, Liverpool and West Ham from Gameweek 13 onwards certain to keep new number one Costel Pantilimon busy between the posts.

Only an upcoming trip to goal-shy Leicester holds promise for the Wearsiders and, despite racking up 33 points in the last five, Steven Fletcher has yet to convince FPL managers, with the 5.3-priced Scot still sitting in less than 1% of sides – he’s now a doubt after being ruled out of Scotland’s match with England tomorrow. Despite picking up returns in only one of the last seven, Seb Larsson remains Sunderland’s top scorer in the FPL game but few will be willing to consider the Swede, with form and fixtures very much against him.

Hull

“frisking

Steve Bruce will be looking to batten down the hatches as the Tigers prepare for trips to United, Everton and Chelsea in the next five. Whilst the fixtures may frown upon the Humberside outfit, the good news is that the treatment room is starting to empty – Allan McGregor is back in full training and Michael Dawson and Nikica Jelavic are hopeful of returning in time to face Spurs at the KC this coming weekend.

Nonetheless, Bruce is still sweating over Curtis Davies’ fitness after the centre-half was forced off with a back injury in Gameweek 11, whilst a run of three matches without a goal underline just how sorely Jelavic’s absence has been felt. The Hull boss shifted back to a 3-5-2 against Burnley, allowing Mo Diame a more advanced berth once again as Hatem Ben Arfa dropped to the bench, but that schedule suggests Hull look a no-go area right now.

Also Be Wary Of…

Southampton
Fantasy managers face a real dilemma shortly as the schedule takes a turn for the worse for Ronald Koeman’s outfit. Once this week’s trip to injury-hit Villa is out of the way, Southampton then face City, Arsenal, United and Everton in four of the next five – a run of opponents which will severely test their credentials.

With just five goals against all season, those holding the likes of Ryan Bertrand and Nathaniel Clyne may be tempted to keep if the Saints’ outstanding form can prevail over the fixtures. Further up the field, though, Dusan Tadic – with returns in two of the last seven – and Graziano Pelle – without a single shot on target in the last three against Stoke, Hull and Leicester – may well be deemed surplus to requirement.

West Brom
After falling to defeat at home to Newcastle, the Baggies face a tough trio of matches before the schedule smiles kinder in Gameweek 15. Alan Irvine’s side go head-to-head with Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham once the domestic action resumes and immediate investment will surely be tempered. Saido Berahino’s owners will be concerned his two-match goal drought could be extended, whilst a backline that’s been breached twice in four of the last five is unlikely to reap defensive returns right now.

Man United
Louis van Gaal’s troops have grabbed just one win in the last four now, whilst a change in formation has also seen the goals dry up – as evidenced by a narrow 1-0 victory over Palace last time out. Granted, United do have back-to-back home clashes with Hull and Stoke on the horizon but with showdowns against Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool also in the next five Gameweeks, their appeal is limited. Angel di Maria will be looking to improve upon a recent run of two assists in four, whilst Fantasy managers will be hoping Adnan Januzaj or Marouane Fellaini can step up in the mid-price bracket. Up top, Wayne Rooney’s deep-lying role and Robin van Persie’s goal drought deprive us of a valid frontline option as Van Gaal’s tactical tinkering stunts his side’s Fantasy momentum.

Costa, Fab , Pelle all are on 4 YC, you will be doomed if all three of them get the YC this week.
I agree with Toonzie .... Fab should be removed in order to get Costa.

For those of you with a defense of
Baines, Clyne, Chambers, Hutton and Moore...
    ...or something similar.
What are your plans now that Baines is a doubt? Chambers is a card magnet and has a tough fixture, Moore not playing, Hutton MIA. That leaves Clyne...alone.

I will be doing absolutely nothing, wouldn't transfer Baines out for a week. I wouldn't be able to get him back. Its like the Costa situation, will he play or won't he, I kept Costa through all the uncertainty. People are now trying to get him back desperately, even those who sold at his peak price made a loss as he didn't drop that much. This is why I'm not transferring out Baines for a week, he may well play anyway and it would be too much hassel to get him back.

Baines, Clyne, Chambers, Hutton, Cameron owner. Not worried about Baines (yet) and Clyne will rotate throughout his trickier fixtures. Not wasting a transfer on him just for a few games.

Thought i would try and create a list of CHRISTMAS PROOF players from the big teams in an attempt to guide my thinking with transfers over the next few weeks:

    Arsenal:
Back four - no one else
    Sanchez

    Chelsea:
Fabregas - I see everyone else being rotated

    Everton:
    Baines
    Coleman

    Liverpool:
    Henderson

    Man City:
    Kompany

    Man Utd:
    Shaw?

    Southampton:
    Back 4
    Tadic

    Spurs:
    Lloris

Just my musings, feel free to comment if you think i've missed any, just thought it was an interesting starting point mainly because still trying to work out what to do with Albrighton and a straight switch to Boyd just feels like a waste of a FT

I would've said Henderson, but he missed the second game I brought him in for. Very unusual. Possibly Sturridge now he's had a massive rest?

I considered Courtois and may well not be rotated but absolutely wouldnt surprise me if Cech was on the pitch for the 28th game.
Hazard just falls into that whole attacking 3 lot with about 20 players for 3 spots (ok exaggeration but you know what i mean, certainly potential there)
Matic agreed possibly should be on there, not true fantasy relevance and could well be rested with ramires or mikel

          chelsea will crumble without matic

Cheers nice work, but there seems to be something wrong in the table, as the average points for a player are wrong, for example it gives me an average of 22.5 pts for Wanyama which is his total 45 pts divided on 2 (the number of times I played him.)

Another idea, what about adding a stat about starting keeper and bench keeper, something like the C and VC one.

      1. fusen
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

The average per player is your what that player is personally averaging for you, not what their overall FPL average is. I'll look at possibly also including their overall FPL average to stick next to it so you can see if you've been lucky or unlucky if playing/benching that player

        1. Suarezista
          • 10 Years

          You didn't get my point.
I played Wanyama twice, got me 6 and 1 points so his average for me must be 3.5
The Table gives me an average of 22.5 for him, which is his total 45 points divided on the 2 times I played him.

I've just started recording all the stats shown for each ID that is searched for. I really should have done this from the start as I'll have missed a good 1000+ searches.

Currently the data is just being stored though, sooner or later I'll look into mushing it altogether to get some 'overall' stats.

This is great stuff but, if you could somehow work out a way to save our / & the player's weekly history for this year & beyond then I'd pay you.

All the data that we currently see if we click history on a player. Minutes played, goals scored, etc for each game.

Yep, can definitely do that. Will just have to remember to do it once the season is over.

All relevant stats for all players, could then make it a yearly thing and have a proper 'FPL Player Archive'

The most important piece of observation I made by the help of your tool is,

How bad I've been in choosing my captain over the last 11 GW.
      Earned From Captain : 100
Could have Earned if I chose the highest scoring player each week : 234

Seems like, I'll have to be a bit more careful from now on while giving the armband!

      Nice tool!

      Really like it.

Some ideas you might want to do:

Add colour to the current XI players in the average points table.
Put in the scores for each stat from the no.1 ranked player for reference purposes.
Put the GW tables in reverse chronological order, and put the average points table first.

Spend a lot of time learning how to make the whole page a lot more graphically appealing 😀

Fair enough. It would be fairly disappointing, but I think a lot of good could come from it.

I'm Brazilian/Swedish, and seeing how FIFA effectively plundered Brazil to take home hundreds of millions in tax-free profits from use of stadiums and infrastructure paid for by state money, I'd love nothing more than for Blatters money-laundering and corrupt money-making machine to be hit where it hurts.

          Hmm, nah not for me.

Terry vs WBA could be good, though I think those set piece stats might be better viewed over the season rather than only recent games, and then WBA look stronger.

Wickham vs leicester was another one that stood out, but not really an FPL option

And I don't see a dip for Caulker at all, he's just had tougher fixtures (chelsea, liverpool, city) so fewer opportunities. Over the season though his set piece stats are as strong as ever though. Chambers>Caulker will be my GW15 transfer unless something else comes up.

I'd look at it like something like this:

      A) Baines+ 8m striker (eg.Pelle)
      B) Costa +4m defender (eg.Wisdom)

I have both in B and not Costa and am pleased.

At the moment, Baines. He is outscoring other defenders by more than Costa is outscoring other forwards. Costa's ownership means his points will hurt more, but at this stage most of the top 100K or so must have Baines as well.

I think it's time to get a CHE defender.

Hutton & Pelle -> Terry & Austin (for free)

    Yay or Nay?

    Krul, Elliot
    Baines, Chamber, Wisdom, Hutton, Yun
    Sanchez, Hazard, Siggy, Chadli, Albrighton
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

Not sure. Feel like I'm missing Hazard and my defence is weak.

Great team. Possibly missing a Chels mid but hard to get another big hitter into that team, I'd imagine.

Ok lads found another way to get Costa in without loosing Baines but it will take a 4pt hit.

Who would you rather keep Siggy or Chadli??

    Have a choice to make...

For GW13 I can get one of these 2 combinations up front:
    Aguero Sakho Berahino OR
    Costa Valencia Austin

After some changes, I could get Costa or Aguero (whichever I don't have) in GW16 (and keep Sakho or Austin). Based on your feelings and the fixtures, what's the better option?

Fair point, was leaning toward Aguero as well, just worried about man city's form

Can't see any news about Tadic in the Scout Tweets. He's injured, isn't he?

This game has fine margins...if I captained my highest scoring captain most weeks (not even every week) I would be rank 1 overall...

Same. That extra 72 points is really quite a lot though in my case.
