The Weekend Team News

Arsene Wenger rules out Mathieu Debuchy for three months. Kieran Trippier is expected to shake off a hamstring problem for Burnley. Erik Pieters remains a doubt for Stoke, James McArthur has been passed fit for Palace, whilst Raheem Sterling is set to return for Liverpool this weekend.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy will be sidelined for up to three months after undergoing surgery on his dislocated shoulder. Mikel Arteta will also be out of action for three months, having successfully undergone ankle surgery. Elsewhere, Wenger has ruled out Danny Welbeck for the Etihad clash, while Kieran Gibbs will be monitored after returning to training later today.

Kieran Tripper was withdrawn with a tight hamstring in Wednesday evening’s cup tie against Spurs Sean Dyche alleviated any concerns by suggesting that the defender should be fit for the weekend. The Clarets are hopeful on club captain Jason Shackell, who missed the cup defeat to Spurs with a calf complaint.

Nigel Pearson could again be without Esteban Cambiasso for the visit of Stoke, with the midfielder yet to fully train following injury. Danny Drinkwater is in contention for the weekend, while Pearson has suggested that fellow midfielder Dean Hammond is a “unlikely to be available” for the Potters clash. The Foxes boss is also hopeful that the paperwork will be completed in time to allow new signing Andrej Kramaric to figure at the weekend.

Gaston Ramirez and Sone Aluko are both set to train today ahead of Hull’s trip to Upton Park. Steve Bruce is set for a reshuffle up front, though, with Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez both ruled out for up to six weeks.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Raheem Sterling is available for selection once again, following the youngster’s short mid-season break. Rodgers has also gone on to reveal that Adam Lallana is ahead of schedule on his comeback from a thigh problem and will be monitored along with Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson. Daniel Sturridge though, remains sidelined for the Aston Villa trip.

Mark Hughes is optimistic that Steven Nzonzi will be fit to face Leicester, though the Potters boss is sweating on the fitness of Erik Pieters, after the pair were withdrawn at the break in the loss to Arsenal. Furthermore, Victor Moses returned to the squad against the Gunners after recovering from injury, and Hughes has suggested that the winger now “looks sharp and is ready to go.”

Joe Cole could be set to miss the meeting with ex-club Liverpool at the weekend, after picking up a hamstring injury at Leicester. In more positive news, Nathan Baker is expected to return to the squad after injury, with Villa also welcoming back Fabian Delph from suspension.

Ahead of Palace’s trip to Burnley, Alan Pardew has revealed that James McArthur has recovered from the foot problem that forced him off in the win over Spurs last week.

Winston Reid and Guy Demel have both returned to light training and “have a chance” of making Sunday’s home clash with Hull, according to Sam Allardyce earlier this morning.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

A bit of a dilemma this week guys.My current midfield and attack are as follows:

      Di Maria
      Hazard
      Sanchez
      Chadli
      Downing
      Kane
      Costa
      Rooney

Need to drop one to the bench. Who would you choose?

I have a similar team and dilemma however I am chasing in a mini league so am willing to take a bit of a punt at this stage.

Personally, I am going to ignore the price tags and captian Chadli and bench Sanchez ?

Why ? Chadli's stats at home have been impressive, Sanchez's stats away have not been.

I got burnt by benching Kane a couple of weeks back because he was my cheapest player and I got burnt last week by captaing Hazard because he was my most expensive, for me the time to gamble is now so I am ignoring the price tags and just going for whoever I think will score the most points.

Double TOT seems excessive so I'd bench one of those.

@PatioKev - Glad to see i'm not crazy for considering benching Sanchez at the Etihad...definitely crossed my mind.

But as @Onwards said, i feel like Chadli AND Kane vs Tottenham is a bit excessive against a Sunderland side who have been performing well on the road (as i've seen first hand as i have Pantillimon).

That said, I really feel like Chadli might do well this gameweek, and i hate the idea of benching him. Also got burnt by benching Kane at Chelsea, although i still think it was a well informed decision in the end. Fantasy football is frustrating as hell.

Any other thoughts from other posters?

      Zabaleta...

      Had for GW1 and eventually ditched after 5 weeks (0, 0, 0, 0, -1)

and then he came back to bite me again when I decided to give him another chance after his 11 point haul so I got him in for Boxing Day... three gameweeks of 0s later I ditched him and he is never returning to my team ever, a 6.5 priced defender for a total of 8 gameweeks totalling with MINUS 1 point overall... to say it still annoys me is an understatement

i suggest you get the best players in your opinion. no point going for eriksen, johnson, sterling IF you think chadli, downing, siggy are better. if they are template then so be it. in future, react quickly. todays template will not last.

for example, ADM was template and price rising fast when he got the big scores. meanwhie sanchez was under radar and price dropping. some of us hold on to him and reaped the rewards. baines was template for his time, then became the time to move on.

go with your gut and be brave but there's no point being different just for the sake of being different.

Why do I only see posts with the opinion that Bony will only be insurance to Aguero?

Man City probably had their best success last season playing 4-4-2 / 4-2-2-2 with either Dzeko or Negredo alongside Aguero.

The only reason they haven't done that this term is consistent injuries and loss of form to whoever would be to partner Aguero. I know it's also Man City but to spend £28m on a striker that's only gonna spend most of his time on the bench is strange, so I think they will switch to a 4-2-2-2 with either Navas or Nasri starting to get less game time.

Kane and Austin are, no doubt, great budget picks and allow for a better midfield but what to do when one (or both) start blanking?

Bench and go with five in midfield or risk having to ship a big mid (-4) to get another forward?

Just trying to justify my Kun, Kane, Giroud front line.

      You're being clouded by price.

No guarantees they'll start blanking anymore than Giroud will.

The bigger question in my view is will higher priced forwards justify their price tag ahead of these two? They're not at the moment.

To those that live in the UK, i am new to london and although i have managed to get to old trafford twice to watch united play 🙂 i am looking to get tickets for the away game tomz at qpr since its in london.

I was unfortunately conned once to get tickets from craig's list 🙁 , any other reliable websites? did some researching on the net and seems like viagogo/stubhub seem safe as they seem to provide some level of guarantee although the prices seem very high.

viagogo has tickets for tomorrow's game at loftus road for 100 quid but its in the home section and ideally i wanted in the away section...thoughts?

Wait for another Utd fixture in London and be right on it! Or take the train down to Manchester. you can probably get a ticket for 80 pounds and travelling won't cost that much.
