Community

The Community Round Up

Despite having a double Gameweek looming, the community was more preoccupied with the fitness of our players on international duty and replacements for some notable long-term injury victims in goal. The failure of some top stars to live up to their lofty valuations was another concern as was the effect of player price in our managerial decisions. In our Members Tables section, we take a closer look at the double Gameweek options for those willing to take a punt. As ever we also catch up on the latest ups and downs in our community tournaments, including the launch of an exciting team-based competition.

The Community Articles

Our community article section was dominated this week with the announcement from the FFS UEFA group of their latest team based tournament for the community. Check in on the latest updates from those looking to recruit members to this competition, which is themed around the Cricket World Cup.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Double Gameweek has not gripped the community this week, with slender pickings among the ranks of relegation-threatened QPR and Aston Villa. In our discussion on Gameweek 31, Ruth NZ revealed he is to go commando and avoid all players with two matches that week.

Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke is one of the better options for the forthcoming double Gameweek but the community is divided as to whether even he is worth shipping in. Barryyuen thinks he could be a good differential for those without QPR’s Charlie Austin, while Somalion believes Villa are going to let people down in Gameweek 31.

For many, though, there are more pressing concerns in goal, with popular picks Fraser Forster and Ben Foster ruled out for the season. In our discussion on goalkeeper options Doolittle recommends West Brom’s cut-price reserve keeper Boaz Myhill, while La Roja is looking to draft in Southampton reserve keeper Kelvin Davis.

Another priority is checking on the fitness and air miles of our players on international duty. Fortunately Zasa was on hand with this guide to the most-owned players’ itinerary.

Many are also looking to shake up their midfield, with previous favourites such as Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Raheem Sterling failing to deliver in recent weeks. In Saniul’s discussion on whether Juan Mata is viable option, Walsh was among those to sing the praises of the Manchester United midfielder.

A key factor in so many managers’ decision to ditch Alexis Sanchez is the fear of benching a player with a premium price tag. This was a theme Sheikh Holmes #GWSDoos picked up on in his discussion on how much price effects our management decisions.

Despite his budget price tag, Harry Kane continues to remain a strong captaincy favourite and seemingly unbenchable. It was no surprise to see him mentioned frequently in Jay1042’s discussion on the first players on our team sheet next season. There were further options for next season discussed in D1sable‘s look ahead to the summer.

A key change this season in posts has been around the bonus point system, with far less criticism of the FPL’s allocation during 2014/15. The system’s successes this year as well as proposals for further tweaks next term were the focus of this hot topic.

Finally, Beric popped by with a latest update on the health of community veteran Doosra, who is showing signs of recovery. To pay tribute to our missing community member Innsie unveiled his Doosra poem.

The Members Tables

For those looking to take advantage of QPR and Aston Villa’s double Gameweek I’ve constructed a pair of tables looking at their best assets. These have a global filter and are sorted by shots in the box, a key indicator of goal scoring promise. My QPR table can be found here, while the Aston Villa table can be accessed here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In the FFS Old Farts Club league Dan Clark continues to lead, while Ross Gillard retains top spot in the Top 1,000 Any Season league. Greenwindmill continues at the summit of the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league and has also taken the lead in the main league of the Long and Winding Road competition.

150 points is too much of an ask, go for diffs but you need Hazard (may be worth dropping once title won) and Kane. Is this a WC team? too many diff for me

          I wouldn't.

You only have 2 GW33 blanks which is good. Hopefully for you, Liverpool will have a blank in GW33 and a DGW in GW37.

I'd wait to see if Costa is going to be fit. If he is then Aguero to Rooney (c). That's where I'd start.

Next GW Foster to Schmeichel which sorts your GK rotation to the end of season and gives you an extra DGW player in GW 34.

          GW33 Save

GW34 Add 1 Chelsea (maybe Hazard for Eriksen) and 1 Liverpool (maybe Henderson or Sterling for Mane).

GW35/36/37 build up Arsenal and Liverpool contingent so you have 3 of each in GW37. If possible switch Walters to Rodwell as well so you have 9 DGW players.

That's the kind of plan I'd make.

150 points is a lot. I think hazard will continue scoring well unfortunately for you. So I'd probably do that, unless it's for money and you don't care about OR I'd do the Mata one

According to me, man u will score a lot this week. More than most teams. Spurs will score twice, man city 3 times, chelsea once, man u 3-4 is my guess. So I'd get mata, but hazard will continue to do well. hazard does go through blips of 2,2,2,2,2 so maybe that might happen?

GK like Myhill is only needed for 3 weeks as WC in GW34 is the plan.
Probably the way I'll go although I'll be stuck with 2 S'ton defs this week with no Dawson.

K davies looks real good. Most people will have 1 or 2 soton defence so if you're triple soton defence fails you only fail a little bit. But if it does well you gain quite a bit. Someone else posted that having double/triple of the same defence can be a good differential

you only fail a little bit, but gain quite a bit? love your math 😛 but, yeah, could be worth it. Would wait on that transfer, and see how it pans out until gw 33. A lot can happen, and panti should do good until then

hmm. myhill doesnt seem so tempting after all,as panti covers him well, except for gw33, when there probably will be a better choice than myhill. I'd just do wollscheid into a villa defender, maybe? a little tipsy, so probably some factors im not thinking of, but after failing on three four suggestions, i think im heading somewhere ^^

this is a luxury transfer, but think you can afford it. Would also look to get rid of sanchez for gw 33, so saving one transfer seems wise to me

Looks alright. I'm not keen on Oscar and Ramsey is a rotation risk. Double Sunderland in defence will not result in many points most weeks.

50/50, sunderland are playing a derby so there should be goals. Though sunderland always do well in these derbies and shut out newcastle quite a lot. Pva was the best player last game for sunderland. I'd be tempted by him.

Really enjoyed Kane's debut goal tonight. What a 6 months he's had. Wonder how best to fit him into the current team, almost feel like he has to play even though Rooney seems to be playing well recently.

Some kind of 4-2-3-1 or diamond with Rooney dropping behind I suppose?

Maybe, but would that suit Kane or Rooney as one wouldn't be central? Looked like sterling and Welbeck were switching around a bit as part of the 3 so maybe it would work, not sure

I think it's quite easy but it's crazy that he didn't start tonight.

      Kane
      Sterling Rooney Oxlade
      Wilshere Henderson
      Baines Jones Cahill Clyne
      Hart

4-2-3-1. Wilshere could be Carrick, Oxlade could be Walcott. But if everyone's fit I think that's about the best arrangement.

Yeah I like that a lot. I'm hoping he didn't start simply because Roy wanted to ease him in.

I'd really like to see him get a start against Italy now, see what he can really do on a full international.

I'd usually prefer Walcott to ox but think ox has played well this season, deserves a chance to start

I hope he'll be at a club where he starts regularly. Given his lack of pitch time and points this season he should drop below £8m too. A fit Walcott at £7m and nailed on would be in most teams here I'd guess.

Been kind of busy at work tonight. Has this place been rocking?

PVA -> Naughton and save the other FT

or Moses -> Phillips if you fancy starting the DGWer

        Don't agree with this.

Since you don't have Panti, I'd keep PvA as Sunderland have some nice fixtures coming up, he is very attacking and seems to have regained his place.

I'd say Cazorla, Sanchez and Moses are your three areas you need to clean up in (not in order).

Since I still think Sanchez is slightly better an option than Cazorla, I'd do Caz -> Silva, Moses -> Boyd/Phillips

Cheers lads. Probably looking to switch up that midfield tbh. Kind of tempted by Sanchez > Silva and saving the other. Use my 2FT down the line to get a good GW33 team out with a couple of punts and use my WC straight after.

That's another good option, go for it. You'll need (and want) to get rid of Caz soon though
