Scout Scribbles – Bony Back in Training for City

Wilfried Bony closes in on a return to action for City. Hugo Lloris could be in contention for Tottenham, conflicting reports surround the fitness of Toby Alderweireld, whilst Harry Kane looks poised to turn out for England Under 21s in this summer’s European Championships.

Bony Returns to Training for City

Wilfried Bony took part in first-team training on Wednesday, having sat out Manchester City’s last three matches with an ankle injury.

The Scout Says: Following City’s switch to a lone striker formation in the previous two Gameweeks, Sergio Aguero has rediscovered his scoring touch and netted three goals. Prior to that, the Argentinian frontman had struggled to find his rhythm in a two-man attack, drawing blanks in five successive matches. As such, one might expect head coach Manuel Pellegrini to be wary of reinstating £30 million January signing Bony upon his eventual return, with the Chilean’s job hanging in the balance in light of three defeats in five. Indeed, with three winnable home ties (AVL, QPR, SOU) left on the agenda, City might not require the extra firepower to finish a disappointing season with a flourish.

Uncertainty surrounds Alderweireld fitness

Only yesterday, Southampton boss Ronald Koeman revealed that news on Toby Alderweireld’s recovery from injury is “positive”, suggesting that he could be in contention for their Tottenham visit on Saturday. Unconfirmed reports emanating from Belgian journalists earlier this morning suggest the versatile defender “won’t be available for a few weeks”, though.

The Scout Says: Having started Gameweek 32 at right-back, the versatile Alderweireld found himself employed in a two-man pivot alongside Morgan Schneiderlin during Saints’ 2-1 loss to Stoke City on the weekend due to Victor Wanyama’s suspension. With the Kenyan enforcer serving the second game of his ban next Gameweek, Alderweireld’s potential absence could prompt Koeman to drop Steven Davis back into the midfield two and field James Ward-Prowse in the No. 10 berth or move Sadio Mane into a central role behind Graziano Pelle. At a price of just 4.9, Alderweireld has offered a cheap alternative to Nathaniel Clyne (6.2) and Ryan Bertrand (5.9) of late but with the Saints poised for a trio of road trips in their final five fixtures, in addition to home encounters with Spurs and Villa, many owners may now be considering selling their assets for double Gameweek contenders instead.

Lloris closing in on weekend return

Reports suggest Hugo Llloris is back in contention for Tottenham’s trip to Southampton after being sidelined for the last three league matches with a cut to the knee.

The Scout Says: Although Lloris’ possible return to action would undoubtedly be a boost to manager Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the south coast showdown, even the much-vaunted French shot-stopper hasn’t been able to prevent Spurs from leaking goals this season. Aside from Queens Park Rangers (five), Crystal Palace and Leicester City (both six), no side has earned fewer clean sheets (seven) than the North London club, while only the Foxes (66) have conceded more big chances (65). With first-choice right-back Kyle Walker all but ruled out for the season with a foot injury, doubts over Danny Rose (hamstring) and a testing schedule on the horizon (sou, MCI, sto, HUL, eve), further shut-outs look increasingly unlikely for Tottenham’s rearguard regardless of the Frenchman’s availability.

Kane eager to play in U21 Euros

FA Chairman Greg Dyke insists that Harry Kane is determined to line up for the England U21s in the European Championship this summer:

“I got a call from Harry Kane’s agent recently just to say how much he enjoyed playing for England and how much he wants to play for the Under-21s this year in the tournament, in the Euros. And I think that’s important. If you’re a young English boy coming through the system, you should want to play for England.”

The Scout Says: Considering that Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies kicked off around mid-July last summer, and the U21 European Championship concludes on 30 June, Kane is likely to rejoin the group in the middle of their training fixtures – given that he’ll require a holiday upon returning from Czech Republic. The chief concern here is that the PFA Player of the Year nominee could at risk of burnout, having tallied 46 appearances for the Lilywhites in his breakthrough season and started their previous 23 league encounters. Already, then, there are growing concerns over his availability for the start of the following season, which gets underway earlier than ever on August 8.

Waved goodbye to Eriksen, Silva, Murray and Kane on this current WC. 😯

Hopefully Sanchez, Sterling, Vardy and Giroud can outscore them over the final 5 weeks.

If they're direct replacements, I'm guessing:

      Sanchez > Eriksen

      Sterling = Silva

      Vardy > Murray (tough one)

      Giroud > Kane

Pedantic but technically it is Sanchez for Silva and Sterling for Eriksen (makes more sense squad balance/value wise) but I see what you're saying. I'm just hoping that I benefit from saving FTs by having Sanchez and Giroud in already rather than keeping Silva and Kane. Twas a tough choice.

Kane will come back in for Vardy in GW37.

Kane is the one to be most worried about. The right DGWers should outscore him though!

Not sure about Silva... depend on the formation City play. Same for Aguero. I have both still despite WC!

Should be bringing him back in for GW37 if my transfer plan doesn't get abandoned. Do not think Vardy will outscore him in the next 5 but hoping he can at least match him in the next 3.

And I have plans to get Kane and Silva back in gw36. Sanchez a victim of price. Going with Ramsey instead. Eriksen is a no brainier sell, and Silva just is not as vital as someone like Sterling given the dgw. Priorities.

I'm going to play Kane and bench Mahrez. 7 or 8weeks ago he seemed a good transfer and money enabler in preparation for GW34. he's burned me ever since. And could do so again if I bench him, but I think I have to.

I wouldn't personally, but depends if you have budget issues.

Kolo may get a game. Plus Lovren should be dropped for taking a strike at goal from 45yards in the last minute of a cup semi when you are 1-0 down and there are others in the box.

What're your plans with the 7.1 ITB? Are you planning to get one or more of Aguero, Sanchez, and Giroud in at some point?

I think Bolasie to Cambiasso is a good move as Leicester have better fixtures, and you get the extra DGW player. I went Boyd to Cambiasso this week and have 8 DGW players. Mostly happy though could regret MASSIVE punt on Sturridge, although if he doesn't play I have Murray on the bench..

Already have Murray so have coverage For bolasie if I do it.

I'm not sure what he'll do but it is worryingly possible.

I think overall you can decide from it whether Coutinho is better than Hendo regardless of Stevie G. Either way, Henderson has a better PPG, he has blanked in only 1 of his last 6 games while Coutinho has blanked in 4 of his last 6. Of course, it's whatever suits you most, there may be other aspects to Coutinho I've not considered.

      Team A or Team B

      Team A
      Mignolet
      Ivan, Schlupp, Terry
      Hazard, Sterling, Henserson, Cambiasso, Sanchez
      Vardy. Aguero

Subs: Kane, Clyne, PVA , Myhill

      Team B

      Ivan, Schlupp, Cameron
      Hazard, Sterling, Henderson. Cambiasso, Fabregas
      Vardy, Aguero

Subs: Bellerin, Giroud, PVA + 2.0 To swap Fabregas to Sanchez next week

Edging towards B as it sets me up for some nice Arsenal fixtures and I'll be ready for the double GW 37. The only drawback is selling Kane I think

      If so, why?

Yes - higher propensity to pick up bonus points, higher goal threat (though this season he has been far less prolific than last).

Who to sell for Sterling (for free):

      A) Sanchez
      B) Silva

Such a close class... appreciate opinions.

If you sell Sanchez, you'll just have to waste an FT bringing him back in again before DGW37.

Not the end of the world if you think Silva (AVL,tot, QPR) will outscore him.

It's whether you see it as a waste though - you have 3 weeks after to get your 3 Arsenal players in. If Silva outscores Sanchez in the next couple (which I'm backing him to) then selling Alexis now makes sense, getting him back on a free later. This is my thinking anyway and is what I did!

Yes I think he will - but I wouldn't get him if you intend to keep for the remainder of the season (which I presume you do) as I think he will be rotated if Chelsea wrap up the title quickly, giving Cech the opportunity for a few final games as a swan song.

      Howard (Juko)
Ivanovic - Skrtel - Schlupp (Wollscheid, Naughton)
Henderson - Hazard - Bolasie - Silva (Walters)
      Aguero - Kane - Giroud

0FT, £0.4mill ITB, good to go for the weekend?

Tinkerman you around? I will show you mine now you've shown me yours 😉

      Schemichel //

      Schlupp // Terry // Skrtel

      Hazard (c) // Fabregas // Sterling // Henderson // Cambiasso

      Kane // Aguero

      Subs: Myhill, Giroud, Alderweireld, PvA

Obviously depends on Toby's fitness. If he's out, i'm probably going to swap Myhill, Toby and Skrtel for K. Davis, Smalling and Moreno!

      Thoughts on this WC draft/plan?

      Schmeichel
      Terry, Skrtel, Schlupp
      Hazard, Fabregas, Sterling, Coutinho, Sanchez
      Aguero, Vardy

      Panti, Kane, PVA, McShane
      Bank 0.2m

GW35: Save (Kane in for Vardy)
      GW36: Sterling & Vardy -> Boyd & Giroud
      GW37: Fabs -> Ramsey/Ozil

Yes, lookign at similar myself, hope to afford Sanchez. Better returns from Arsenal mids than their defenders. Double up with one of PvA/Panti. You might want to go with Mata over Silva if needing a differential.

we all know that skrtel is better than moreno, & that sterling is better than henderson.

but I'm wondering **how much** better people think the two pricier players are??

I'm strongly considering bringing in the two cheaper options to help ease giroud into my team next week. giroud this would also mean, fwiw, that i couldn't afford coutinho.
