Injuries

Treatment Table – Gameweek 13

Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin is set for an extended spell on the sidelines. Liverpool face a wait over the hamstring problem that forced Philippe Coutinho off during Saturday’s win at City, whilst Louis van Gaal hopes to have Wayne Rooney back for United’s Champions League showdown against PSV.

Arsenal
Earlier today, Arsene Wenger confirmed that Francis Coquelin will be sidelined for a number of weeks with the knee injury that forced him off on 14 minutes at West Brom last Saturday:

“I’m always a bit cautious because we had lots of bad surprises on the scans, but it is at least two months. I can’t say more than that but certainly for the next two months we will play without Coquelin. We have players who can play in this position like Mathieu Flamini, but also Calum Chambers, who has been educated as a central midfielder. So this is a good opportunity for other players to show us they can do the job.”

Wenger also has concerns over Mikel Arteta, who followed Coquelin into the treatment room at the 49-minute mark due to a calf strain. On a more positive note, Aaron Ramsey returned to training this morning as he steps up his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury. The Welshman is expected to be available for tomorrow evening’s encounter with Dinamo Zagreb.

Bournemouth
The Cherries were without a trio of new absentees for the Swansea clash. Despite playing for Paoland over the international break, Artur Boruc is contending with a groin injury, Tokelo Rantie returned to South Africa to attend to his sick mother, while Lee Tomlin is nursing a groin complaint.

Liverpool
Philippe Coutinho was substituted in the 68th minute against Manchester City after pulling up with a hamstring issue. The Brazilian midfielder will undergo a scan to hone in on the root of his discomfort, but Jurgen Klopp is optimistic that he just experienced cramp:

“I hope we got there early enough. It was a little bit of cramp. He felt something. I hope that’s all it was because everybody can see that he’s very important to us. He’s in really good shape in this moment and I hope we could react early enough.”

Elsewhere in the Liverpool camp, Jordan Henderson revealed that he’s closing in on a return to action having missed the previous 11 Gameweeks because of a foot injury:

“I’m getting there. This is one of the longest periods of time I’ve been out for and that has been tough for me. Hopefully I’m not too far away now.”

Manchester United
In the wake of the Red Devils’ late triumph over Watford at Vicarage Road, Louis van Gaal offered an update on this fitness of his squad. Phil Jones and Ander Herrera both left the field prematurely and have been ruled out of Man United’s midweek Champions League encounter. The Dutchman is confident that neither has suffered a serious injury, though:

“Jones and Herrera, I think, are not available for Wednesday. My first impression is that they are not too heavy but the problem is that we have to play Wednesday already. Jones had a twisted ankle and Herrera a hamstring injury.”

On the attacking front, Wayne Rooney is expected to recover in time to start against PSV Eindhoven in midweek, but Anthony Martial is a major doubt due to his foot complaint:

“Rooney is ill, and that is a matter of days, not weeks. I expect that he shall play Wednesday, but you never know, I do not know the development of the illness. Today he is at home, we gave him a day off to heal the illness; tomorrow he comes and I can say more. Martial is another problem, his foot, it is not as heavy as the media have written but we have to wait and see if he can play Wednesday.”

Van Gaal also went on to explain that James Wilson was not selected because of a swollen knee and a lack of match fitness, while Marcos Rojo suffered from jet lag on his return from international duty:

“Wilson had a swollen knee after training. I did not play [Marcos] Rojo also because when you have jet-lag you cannot play. Wilson did not play for six weeks, so you cannot play in the Premier League without match rhythm; you have seen with Memphis that in the second half he was less [effective]. I had Rashford on the bench, a fantastic talent, but Wilson has more experience in the league.”

Newcastle United
Cheick Tiote lasted just 20 minutes against Leicester City before being substituted with a groin injury. Steve McClaren bemoaned the Ivorian’s early withdrawal but remained optimistic of a positive prognosis:

“That was a big blow for us. We are not making excuses, but we have obviously already got Colback out. Once we lost Cheick, there were not a lot of midfield options. With Tiote there, we felt quite stable, especially because Vurnon (Anita) was probably the only one out of the whole group who did their job. We will have a look at Cheick in the next few days, but hope it is not too serious.”

Norwich City
Russell Martin was absent from the matchday squad at Chelsea by virtue of undisclosed personal reasons, while Alexander Tettey picked up a thigh problem during the international break.

Stoke City
Xherdan Shaqiri experienced a tight hamstring in the first half of the Potters’ road clash with Southampton, prompting Mark Hughes to replace the Switzerland international 20 minutes after the break:

“He had a little tightness in his hamstring to be fair, and that was the reasoning behind taking him off when we did. He wanted to go out and play the second half but it was important that we protected him a little bit, which is what we did. I was really pleased with what he offered us once more today. You can see each game he plays that he is adapting and showing the undoubted qualities he possesses.”

Theoretically yes but Arsenal generally outplays the opposition in midfield anyway so may get away with it in the next 3 games (Norwich, Sunderland, Villa) until they face City.

Aguero, Xmas Period and the fear of not owning him

    GW16: SWA - but Kane/Lukaku have NEW/nor respectively.
    GW18*: SUN - but Kane/Lukaku have NOR/new respectively.

*Furthermore, this is 5 days after ars and 3 days before lei for City so surely there will be rotation/limited minutes. Would happily captain for SWA if I owned him but would still be a bit hesitant to captain him for SUN even though it's such an obvious fixture.

I'm holding out til one of those 2 GWs for now but not ruling out going with Vardy/Kane/Lukaku given that they will almost certainly not face any rotation over the Christmas.

I'd like him but those 3 are performing so well. Sanchez has been quiet, and I can't bring myself to drop him before Norwich, even though I have Ozil too 🙁 Also City has 7 games in 22 days, so everyone is gonna be tired.

We need to win games consistently and Bony is out injured and we have Kelechi as our backup striker.

Bottomline - Aguero plays till the games are won and that'd invariably mean Aguero scoring lots of points.

You're risking a Aguero captain haul by not owning him.

I think with Vardy seemingly undroppable and Lukaku a popular choice Christmas may come down to a straight shoot out between Aguero (c) and Kane (c). Those with both will be at an advantage ...well possibly, but their midfields are going to look pretty weak.

For me currently I think Kane is potentially the better option. guaranteed minutes, better fixtures and the form.

        Is Vardy *really* undroppable though?

Aguero - Best player in the league, best FPL player.

        Lukaku - form and fixtures

        Kane - form and fixtures

        Ighalo - form and fixtures

        Vardy - form

Aguero, Lukaku and Kane are also (in real life) better players than Vardy and play for teams that are less likely to drop off their current form than Leicester are. Those three are also their teams' main penalty takers, whereas Mahrez could start taking Leicester's again once Vardy breaks the goal record.

In that context I'm not sure how anyone could say Vardy is one of the three best picks from this point on, which makes him fairly droppable imo.

Why opt for a form player over alternatives with form, fixtures and better pedigree? I really don't get it.

He's significantly cheaper and has scored in 10 consecutive games so I would say that's a little bit more than your standard 'form' argument. The key part is the price though as lots have a lot invested in him for starters, and anyway even at current price he allows for strengthening elsewhere.

Aye, he does have price as an advantage. I don't think that makes him undroppable either though, especially as Ighalo is arguably even better value given his next three fixtures.

Scoring in 10 consecutive games is brilliant but it certainly doesn't mean he'll outscore the likes of Lukaku and Kane over the next five our so, which is all that really counts right now. In fact I'd be absolutely amazed if he did given the difference in their fixtures.

Agüero has no form and similarly difficult fixtures for the next 4 weeks at least, Vardy has league topping form (combined with underlying statistics).

As for the Leicester are more likely to drop off in form and so Vardy must start scoring less argument, see here http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/11/12/are-vardy-and-mahrez-fixture-proof/

            1. Aguero is a special case, which is why everyone is in a panic now that he's back. Form and fixtures are less relevant for Aguero than they are for Vardy because he's simply a better player. We all know this is true so why would we view them in the same way?

            2. Vardy and Leicester do indeed have league topping form and the statistics to back it up. That form (and those statistics) are also totally unsustainable in the long term as they are not a league topping side and do not have the quality to continue to produce this attacking output. This will especially prove to be the case the lack of depth in the squad starts making its presence felt.

            3. This isn't even really about what Vardy and Leicester can or can't do. It's simply about who is likely to score the most of all these attacking options. Lukaku and Kane have the form and they have the fixtures, so why would they be considered droppable while Vardy isn't?

Vardy/Kane/Lukaku front line stays until Aguero scores a brace or more OR an injury happens.

      Aguero is more likely to:-
      Be rotated
      Get injured
Screw up your whole team fitting him in

Previously Aguero also had assists in his locker when, say Lukaku didn't. The other 3 all have those now too. Better fixtures, form and points.

Aguero is Aguero, I know, but you have to be captaining him to make the money worth bit, and right now, without doubt, I would put the armband on Kane in both the above games

if you applied the rule from your first sentence earlier in the season, you would have lost a 50 point captain haul

And potentially gained a bunch of points the rest of the times he captained Aguero during his many blanks.

Yes, but they weren't on form then. And if Aguero take as long to get that 50 put Haul now, that's about 5/6 games of the other 3 still smashing points.

BTW I had Aguero captained in GW8 as he was the best striker option then. Now I don't think he is. He's the best Striker, but he's probably not the best forward point scorer at present.

He will become that again I have no doubt, but not right now.

I really think that Kane/Lukaku/Vardy is the frontline to have over the festive period. They will all play every game, all in red hot form, and there are some decent fixtures in there. I'm gonna wait until January and re-evaluate whether or not to get Kun. The extra funds allow me a strong defense, midfield and bench to see out the rotation risks.

What about the effect of the Europa League on Kane's form?
For example, Spurs travel to Azerbaijan this Thursday, followed by a London derby vs. Chelsea on Sunday.
Even if Kane doesn't play, he may travel with the squad.
Even if he doesn't travel, some of the first team squad will be knackered by Sunday.

I have a feeling next week will kick on the Aguero bandwagon in full. Gut says Kane will blank and Aguero will score 2 or more. A Kane owner here - not decided yet whether I'll take in Aguero for hits 🙁

I had Kane captain this week, but sold him before he plays, to get the Aguero price rise.
Considering now selling Vardy and De Bruyne and bringing back Kane (even for 0.2 more than I just dol him for) and buying, eg Coutinho. Seems there are four must-have strikers at the minute.

Apologies if this has already been covered but I'm considering Pelle + Mane -> Aguero + Delle Alli with -4 hit. Appreciate that Delle Alli is out of the next GW but I think he's a good long term option?

Should pay off this week itself imo.

Pelle is out, and Smalling has a poor fixture defensively and Aguero and Moreno have good fixtures.

Bolasie is a short term option. That spot to keep switching mids over.

        Have my faith on KDB.

Silva and Aguero returning means more goals and more points for KDB. If he doesn't perform inspite of that then it's an easy switch to Ozil next gw.

Bolasie on the other hand is a short term punt.

      Hi Everyone.

Am new to Fantasy League, this is my 2nd season and doesnt seem like its going well.

      Little help will be appreciated.

How many points do you think below team will get in GW 14.

      De Gea
      Cathcart, Bellerin, Darmian
      Ozil, Wijnaldum, Lanzini, Willian
      Lukkaku(C), Aguero(V), Giroud

Bench : Hennesey, Dann, Maheraz, Ryan Bennett

I have already used WC in GW 13(got just 51 points, not even avg points) and the 1FT for GW 14.

I am ok to go for -4 but need points. Currently taking a beating in my league.

Stubborn more often that not = Stupid. (don't take offence please)

I find this % goes up when referring to FPL. Stubbornness always costs points almost EVERY TIME.

Martial needs to go. Even if fit. Even if LVG says they are playing 8 up front, Even if He scores 12 in a training game.

To many better options right now to be holding him.

yeah I know. I did it last season with falcao and luckily it didnt hurt as much as it could have because he actually scored a few points when i had him.

Could you drop Ake down to Simpson to get the money, I assume not.

Double united defence not needed though, as Smalling is nailed and a great shout on his own.

I would probably play Smalling over Ake, simply based on the fact benching a high priced defender is more annoying when they get points than it is a cheapo when it's a coin toss.

Doos and jose's omelette, the player comparison tool is completely skewed because of Deulofeu's minutes- lots of cameos!!!

I haven't got either tbh, but watching them both Deulofeu looks far more of a threat to me. And he's only just started getting consistent minutes so more to come if he keeps his place

Nope, just select average per game and 'last four gameweeks' (where Deulofeu has played as many minutes as one could expect him to in future) still night and day.

He looked pretty good at the weekend. Should really have been awarded at least 1 assist and possibly could have got another couple if Kone and Lukaku had finished his assist first touch.

Best move here? I won't be getting Aguero until the Vardy train stops, FWIW.

    DDG
    Bellerin Nyom Moreno
    Sanchez Ozil Mahrez Lanzini
    Kane Lukaku Vardy

    McCarthy, Ayew, Williams, Gomez.

    1FT. £3.6m ITB.

    A) Williams to Walker. Bench Nyom.
    B) Gomez to Souare. Bench Nyom.
    C) Ayew to Firmino. Bench Mahrez.
    D) Save.

Anyone considering Eriksen soon? He trolled me a fair bit last season but with these fixtures coming up i think it's worth a Kane/Eriksen double up.

Sanchez/KDB if they don't perform would get the chop for one of Ozil/Coutinho/Eriksen next week for me.

May even ditch both if they look poor again. So, yes Eriksen is definitely on my radar.

I'd ditch KDB out of those two. Then re-evaluate Sanchez after Arsenal's next three games.

Typically got him for GW9 and got rid for GW12 --
He had a horrible drop of form between then but his stats before, and from last night are good.

    Butland/hennesey

    Moreno, Nyom, Bellerin (francis, oxford)

Next weeks defence for my WC team looks like being:

Hennessey, Moreno, Ward, Wolschied (17.5 million)

    with a bench of

    DDG, Smalling, Alderweild (17.7 million)

    Its a funny old game.

This Lukaku price rise is happening very quickly. Twice in 3 days the way it's going. I was surprised he only went up once after the Sunderland game, so people are finally cottoning on.

Looks like Kane, Aguero and Lukaku are all triple rising this week.

Interesting, Mahrez has only triple risen once all season (at which point he blanked).

    Clyne - Alderweireld - Sagna

Özil - Barkley - De Bruyne - Cabaye

    Agüero (C) - Lukaku - Vardy

How come the RMT, within the members area, is showing Lukaku to be this GWs 20th highest scorer? He's playing Bournemouth?

I read Limpars comment earlier and had to check it for myself.

He's back up to 7th against Palace the next GW.

    Any ideas?

But Deulofeu was excellent. He could rake in a few points during Everton's next run of fixtures.
