Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 22 – Sunday

Wayne Rooney maintains his fine scoring form by bagging United’s winner at Anfield. Stoke and Arsenal play out a goalless draw at the Britannia, with Mesut Ozil missing out due to a minor foot problem.

Rooney Wins it for Red Devils

Courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s fourth league goal in three outings, Manchester United edged past Liverpool at Anfield, putting them right back in contention for a Champions League berth. The Red Devils legend – who surpassed Thierry Henry (175) as the top scorer for a single club (176) in the Premier League – is enjoying a resurgence of late and with 33 FPL points over the last trio of fixtures, has emerged as a viable differential at the 9.9 mark ahead of back-to-back home ties (SOU, STO).

Marouane Fellaini turned provider for his second assist in as many starts but remains on the periphery of our thinking. In light of Juan Mata’s absence of form (no attacking returns since Gameweek 12), we’re still searching for an attractive route into Man United’s lacklustre midfield – indeed, the Spaniard was reduced to sub duties for the second match in succession as Jesse Lingard (4.2) kept his role on the flank.

United’s trip to Merseyside yielded their 11th clean sheet of the campaign – more than any other side. Given the surfeit of injured defenders at the club, Chris Smalling represents the only secure route into their rearguard. Although he carries a prohibitive price tag (6.7), match-ups against Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland harbour strong shut-out potential over the next four Gameweeks.

Klopp’s Men Stutter Again

Defeat at the hands of Man United means that Liverpool lay claim to just two wins across their previous six outings, with inconsistency at both ends making it hard to pinpoint any tantalising pick-ups among Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Certainly, the Reds are suffering from a dreadful shot-conversion rate (4.2% since Gameweek 17) that stems from their lack of a consistent presence up front. That being said, their favourable batch of upcoming fixtures (nor, lei, SUN, avl) could reward those Fantasy managers who take a punt on the likes of Roberto Firmino, if the Brazilian can rediscover the form that served up a brace against Arsenal last Wednesday.

Ozil Absence Blunts Gunners

Mesut Ozil’s omission from the matchday squad was the chief talking point prior to Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Stoke City. The Germany international had an inflamed foot but is expected to be passed fit for the Gunners’ home tie against Chelsea next Sunday.

Arsenal struggled to carve open the hosts’ organised back line in the absence of their midfield orchestrator – notching 14 fewer key passes than Newcastle United (20) this Gameweek – but did manage to secure their third clean sheet in four matches. Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny all serve as alluring routes into a defence that enjoys three home encounters over the next four Gameweeks (CHE, SOU, bou, LEI).

Another shut-out for Potters

The Potters chalked up six more attempts (14 compared to eight) and double Arsenal’s tally of shots on target (six to three) but ultimately failed to muster a single big chance without the injured Xherdan Shaqiri pulling the strings. Nonetheless, Jack Butland’s 24% ownership profited from the Staffordshire outfit’s first clean sheet in four fixtures. Given that Stoke have accrued the joint-second-most clean sheets on the road (five), they’ll fancy their chances of rebuffing Leicester City’s misfiring attack (two goals in five) next Gameweek, whilst upcoming trips to United and Bournemouth won’t hold much fear in light of their defensive form.

      Not all of them. No longer takes penalties, and it seems he will share corners and FKs.

          Depends who's on the pitch, Deulofeu took the corner for our 3rd goal. Mirallas tends to try to hog set pieces when he's playing.

    Itchin' to free up cash for Aguero and here are my current ideas...bearing in mind I have Ward as Palace cover

    A) Dann -> Sagna (now a rotation risk?)
    B) Dann -> Jags
    C) Dann -> Zouma
    D) Dann -> Daniels
    E) Mahrez / Arnautovic -> Alli

    Quick Stat : Barkley's average points per game excluding the Big '6' this season : 6.23 ( H & A )

    It's an impressive 7.67 should you consider his home form (excluding the Big '6' of course ).

    P.S : The big six - United, City, Arsenal, Spurs, Pool, Chelsea.

    I know WBA have been poor lately but really tempted to bring in Dawson for Sagna as they have 3 juicy home games in next 5, and 4 games with real CS potential. I have a real feeling they're going to get some shut outs now and also think it could be a nice differential.

    Would only do this however if Sagna won't be returning to XI at the weekend. So, was this weekend a one off with Zabaleta, or is rotation going to be a likely fixture in that RB position? I've actually owned Sagna for basically the whole season and am happy to keep him, just not however if he will continually be in doubt to start.

      Regardless of whether you get Kun or not your team is very" template". So it depends on if you are chasing or holding. Review your priorities ( ML,H2H or Overall rating) before making decision. He is still "just" a worthwhile diff at the moment but won't be for very long if he has a double digit haul at West Ham.

      Who would you shift out for him, bearing in mind Lukaku fixtures ?

        It wasn't template until a few weeks ago and then last few weeks has become so.

        Try and just pick in 3 weeks bursts, and worked out that way now.

        Would have to be KDB and Igahlo out for Aguero and a cheap mid. Probably.

    Hello everyone. What would you do with this lot?

    Hennessey
    Dawson Simpson Moreno
    Ozil Bruyne Payet Mahrez
    Aguero Lukaku Kane

    McCarthy Francis VanDijk

    0.3 itb, 2 free transfers.

    Think I need backup for Hennessey so thinking McCarthy -> Elliott and VVD -> Jagielka. What do you think?

    Aguero delivered the FPL points this week. But is anyone else underwhelmed by his play at the moment?
    His first goal was a total fluke, aided by a goalkeeping howler. For the second, he was just standing in the six yard box and KdB picked him out.

      He plays up front for the best team in the league who have two of the best creators in the league KDB and Silva. He will always have chances if not created by himself, but by others.

      Lol, you can do this for all City goals...
      For Delphs it was a goalkeeping howler
      For Silva, it was a tap in, after Aguero did all the work...

    Migh need to get Lukaku back in sooner rather than later, so options are

    A) Kane -> Lukaku

    B) Ighalo + KdB -> Lukaku + Silva -4

    C) save, do B) next GW for free

    Is it worth playing the wildcard to improve this?

    Butland Elliot
    Koscielny Dawson Moreno Cameron Dier
    Özil De Bruyne Mahrez Payet Alli
    Aguero Vardy Lukaku

    Really unsure about having both Vardy and Mahrez as they don't seem to get points anymore. Would also really like to get Kane, but Vardy to Kane would mean downgrading in midfield or defense.

    I HAVE A SERIOUS STATEMENT HERE!!! 🙂
    Would love if fpl would change their rules about squad selection.
    Wouldnt it be cool and more competitive if you could own any amount of forwards/mids/defenders..?but still have only 15 players in the team.
    But still have to comply with formations.
    As for example i have Kun-Lukaku-Ighalo but fancy Kane/Austin/rooney..and have plenty money in the bank so i would rather get one of these lads instead of defender(which i dont play in this case its oxford)...And keep em rotating.
    This would sort some of the headaches i am having(as i think i have deadly strike force but i would love more backup when they have tough opponents)
    I think this would bring the game to the next level,as the teams would be more different than now,as for now most of the teams have at least of 50% same player(thats just my guess,taken from the leagues i am playing in) so its hard to catch up with top teams.
    What do you think if FPL staff would bring this rule in from next season?
    Should bring this up with the guys from FPL.
    Makes sense??

    7. HammersFan

      No because then everyone would play the top 15 forwardsand no defenders would ever get played.

      Benching headaches is part of the game and its up to you to make the right call.

      1. HammersFan
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 3 months ago

        Get rid of chips (makes cups unfair) keep the 2 wildcards and good to go.

        Only thing would be to try and make the bench more usefull, maybe half points or something? As rarely had to make use of it this year.

        1. HammersFan
          • 8 Years
          8 years, 3 months ago

          Ah but keeping formations...

          So 1 keeper
          3 defenders
          4 mids
          7 forwards

          Would be a legal teams as you can play 343 every week just pick which ever flavor forwards you want. Still silly idea tbh

          Whatever rules fantasy has there will always be some sort of template. If 15 players are obviously better than the rest they will be the most owned.

          Also getting benching headaches right is what sorts the men from the boys, this idea wouldnt even change that either

    8. Pasqualinho
      • 14 Years

      Nice idea. I think the variable squad composition might make it a bit challenging for the game developers, however. Although the changes that are developed seem to be more in line for keeping people interested for longer and this might help.
