Bit confused as to why people are advising against playing Williams (wba). WBA barely score any goals and he's guaranteed to get 3 BAPs and has decent goal threat..

Guaranteed to get 3 BAP's is probably a bit of a stretch. People warming to the prospect of Rondon bagging goals seems to be a bit of a contributing factor as well.

        Stupid advice.

Barkley is a strong starter as we saw last season and has excellent fixtures.

Don't give members here stupid advice with no substance please, as the point of this site is to help each other.

I'm not so sure that Barkley's role in this team is going to be the same as was last year, and I'm not so sure that is stupid advice.

With Koeman adding Bolasie and changing shape of team, Barkley may not be as far forward in the middle. He'll still be key to overall play, but I think there may be more hockey assists (assist the assister). Yes, the fixtures are great for the start, but I don't think Barkley has the points in him that Redmond is going to have and I don't particularly think Barkley is a bargain where he is priced right now. If you can take that money and spend it on a bargain elsewhere, you are probably improving your overall squad.

Just because you disagree with an opinion doesn't make it "stupid"

And for what it's worth, I don't see an icon that suggests you are a "member".

By member I meant a member of the community that posts here and asks for advice.

Regarding Barkley I stand by what I said. Telling someone just to sell him is stupid advice given his fixtures and proven fpl potential.

Say what you will but the evidence you provided to back that statement has absolutely no substance at all at this stage as you have no idea what Bolasie's impact will have.

As of right at this moment and at the time of the op's question, what we do know is:

            - Barkley is nailed on
            - Is playing in the no. 10 role
            - Is on some set pieces and potentially still on pens
            - Has had an excellent preseason
            - Has already started strongly last gw
            - Has excellent fixtures
            - Had a strong start to last season
            - And could be an absolute bargain considering all the above.

As I said, telling someone to sell him now based on nothing concrete and ignoring the above FACTS is STUPID ADVICE! 🙂

The fact you chose to endorse that advice is worrying.

              Devils Advocate,

I'll respectfully submit that FFS actually has a different assumption of what "member" means, hence the existence of a "members" section.

I'll also suggest that you refer to the behavior/conduct section of the terms and conditions, where they talk about civility, defamatory language, abusive behavior, negative discussions about other users and ALL CAPS. And just putting a smiley face after it doesn't really change anything. The mods around here tend to dive right in and I'd like to keep as many passionate people around here as possible.

As for your list of things that "we do know"
              1. nailed on -- Agree
              2. playing in the no. 10 role -- what may be true in one week when you don't have all of your personnel healthy may not necessarily be true the next week.
              3. on some set pieces and potentially still on pens -- Yes he'll still be on some set pieces, but I would be shocked to see him on pens. Anything could happen, I suppose, but he missed the last one he took, he was never on them last year when Lukaku was on them and he was never on them before when Baines was on them. He's at best #3 in my opinion.
              4. has had an excellent preseason -- depends on your viewpoint. Played well? seems so from reports but I didn't lay eyeballs on any of those matches. Were you lucky enough to be able to? I know the only goals he produced were against a 2nd tier squad (Barnsley) and a 3rd tier squad (MK Dons) in the first two matches and he scored nothing thereafter.
              5. strong GW1 -- agree, but that goal had an element of luck to it, and I say that as an Everton fan. It was more delivery than finish.
              6. has excellent fixtures -- agree
              7. had a strong start to last season -- agree, but then he also faded rapidly.
              8. could be an absolute bargain -- yup, but that's speculation just as much as my thoughts were speculation. It's not "what we do know"

I'm glad you worry about me, but I'll probably be OK either way.

I'd suggest a bit more humility and kindness in your posts. It goes a lot further around here.

I'd also suggest linking your team history to your profile. It's kind of standard practice around here, and it helps others put your comments in context. I have no idea if you are a HOF type, or an opinionated newcomer. Just helps people decide how much weight to put on your opinion. I'm neither the former nor the latter, but I've been around the game and this forum long enough to know that very few people actually have it all figured out based just on last year's results, a handful of preseason warmups, and one week's results.

Love the passion and participation, and thanks for your thoughts. I've gotta get back to work now. Good luck with your season.

I've been a registered user of this site for so many years that I can't actually remember how long. My guess would be around 8 years if not more, so definitely not a newcomer, lol.

To be honest I hardly ever posted due to the numerous meaningless RMT posts, or numerous posts containing inaccurate information by people who obviously haven't watched a match or bothered to check any stats.

For these reasons I chose to post more at other forums and the like, but if you or others don't like my posting style I'm happy to lay dormant once again and just continue posting at those other sites. 😉

As for my comments, I can appreciate you mentioning mods and the posting rules, however you're not a mod so best you let them decide how offensive my comments are.

At no time did I attack the poster, rather I attacked the post, and calling out stupid advice for what it is based on the evidence we have is not offensive. It's simply factual. If I made a similar post I'd expect someone else to call it out as being stupid advice also, and I'd wear that knowing it's probably an accurate description for false and misleading advice. If you disagree that's fine, and that's why your welcome to report my posts and let a mod decide. 😉

As for my team link, I couldn't care less what the standard practice around here is, and if you base another's advice on football related matters purely on their fpl history then you are sadly closing yourself off to potentially important advice on the grounds of prejudice against those that may have a poor fpl record but a strong real football knowledge. That's sad for you, but an advantage for your competitors, lol.

What if I don't even play fpl and just come here because I enjoy discussing football and have a strong understanding of the game after being involved in it for 30 years? Does that make my advice on a certain team or a players role any less valuable to the community?

I have nothing to prove to you or anyone else here and for that reason I now won't link my team indefinitely. You will now just have to guess how good or bad I am from the posts I offer, lol.

Anyway, I think your just being argumentative for the sake of it rather than because you think the information I provided is false or inaccurate, as it seems you agreed with most of it and provided little evidence to counter those parts you did not.

Feel free to report or block me by all means, however in the future you can now save me the lecture. I'm open to all opinions and welcome healthy debate, however if I see one answer responses that have no substance or explanation, and rather seem more an attempt to deceive the person asking for help, then I'll label that advice as stupid because by the letter of the law that's what it is. That doesn't mean the person posting it is.

Nice chat anyway, and good luck on your season ;).

And for what it's worth I don't look at anyone's link including yours, because basing the legitimacy and value of someone's comments on their fpl history is stupid, and could mean I'm excluding myself from a wealth of useful information from someone who has solid insight in a football area other than just fpl.

                I'm a smarter player than that. 😉

Yeah... but when it comes down to it preferring Redmond at 6.0 to Barkley at 7.5 is very far from "stupid". 🙂

This gw it is, and regardless that's not the point. I was addressing his advice to simply "sell Barkley" without providing any reason or evidence to support the claim.

Fwiw I have Redmond and don't have Barkley, but if I had both Barkley would definitely start ahead of Redmond.

I also wouldn't get rid of either.

Good to see you back Ruth. Are we in a better mood today or can we expect some more fun and random outbursts? 😉

Wildcard before GW4. All will change then. I wouldn't spend so much on forwards long term and Vardy was there for the Hull game more than anything.

Originally I had Rooney in that slot but thought Vardy looked sharper in the Charity Shield.

                  Cheers, thanks for the reply.

Not bothering to report anything to anybody. Don't have the time or energy to do so. And certainly don't have the time or energy to be a mod or even a pseudo-mod.

Didn't mean to imply that you can't have valid input without having a stellar FPL record. That would be a stupid thing to say. 😉 Rather, meant that it helps differentiate a degree of experience when someone isn't quite sure what to make of what you say. If you heard something that you weren't really sure of, and it came from somebody who is brand new to the boards and the game, would you take it exactly the same as you would take it from somebody who has been playing the game for ten years? Honest question, no snark intended. I just think it helps to consider the source of all information on which I'm basing my actions. And I do honestly think that playing FPL is different from just being around the game in general, because FPL is a game of numbers that frankly bears little reality to the real game. N'golo Kante point in case. Eric Dier another point in case. Dier was hugely valuable last year in FPL, whereas this year he isn't. Same player. Different label in the game. Different value. Plenty of other examples that you could obviously list as well as I can.

As for evidence provided or not provided, I don't think you provided any evidence that he would be on pens. I think I provided track record that he won't be, and recent evidence of failure that wouldn't change the status quo. I think I also provided context to a statement about the success of his preseason by citing the goals/opposition. On other issues, you're either right, or it's unprovable and we both just have differing opinions about the future.

You're right, there is no rule about linking teams, and I don't particularly care if you do or don't. I feel like when I take the time to look at a person's history, I get to know them a bit better and it helps foster the sense of community that we value on this site. Or at least that I value on this site. Just my preference, that's all. Hope to see you even more involved and not put off by this or by other RMTs or such.

                  Cheers

I might look to get some United attack like Martial, instead. I'm wary that Payet may be fatigued yet, and if not already, that he will get that way faster. With Ayew out, he's going to feel the pressure of producing on his own, which won't be particularly helpful and defenses won't have to spread their attention as widely.

Carroll has never been nailed on even when fit so there's always a risk but he should be safe for the time being given Ayew's injury and Calleri just joined. A slight chance Valencia steals some minutes but Carroll seems ahead of him atm.

If you have enough starters on defense already, I'd save. Why spend a FT on somebody you are going to leave on your bench. But if you are on the fence, Amat likely to start in a good fixture.

Depends on ur team though. I m doing the same. But I had Carroll as Redmond's backup last week so Carroll plays this time and he sits out. Not sure if Jaku & Redmond (vs ManU away) can be considered for bench boost but that is just my perspective.

      I'd play him.

I can see united coping with SOU defensively from open play, but VVD is a huge goal that from set pieces and united are short at the back if Smalling doesn't play.

I think set pieces will be SOU's best chance of a goal at OT so I'd play VVD for his attacking threat which is another reason why I assume you paid 5.5mil for him.

Just a thought on those considering benching Redmond/Tadic - 4231 is a perfect counter to a 442 diamond.

Not sure how this will reflect in the game, but tactically speaking, United should have a stranglehold on the game

I would bench Redmond and long. But not tadic. I just don't think you can ever bench someday who is on all set pieces. It's too risky. He has about a 35-40 percent chance of being involved in any goal they score.

I think United play more of a 442. Rooney and Ibra have similar roles, both drop deep at times and they alway overlap.

Ibra and Rooney actually played similar to Spurs from last season when Kane (Ibra) would often drop deeper with Alli (Rooney) running ahead of him into the strikers space.

The new FPL handle which 'The Scout' seems to have a pretty large say in with extra effort made to dumb it down even more for the masses.

Throw in a Q+A every now and then and he's taking the 'FFS template' to the masses.

The game is being directed down the Lemmings route.

Ramirez, Rondon, these are not bandwagons like the obvious Negredo one, only people that give a you know what would be considering them/looking into stats, 'Scouts' been putting them out there for all to see, what's he going to do next? Alert people when players are rising/falling?

Trivial number, and the % of them that actually follow closely enough to catch every tweet and then act on them in a way that moves them out of the "casual" category? Well I'd say that if they are that obsessive, they aren't casuals anyway. I couldn't care less about how much stuff he puts out there. If it's not as much fun to play because I finish 35K instead of 10K, then I need to find a different hobby.
