Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Burnley

Sunday’s events conclude at St Mary’s as Southampton play host to Sean Dyche’s Burnley.

The Saints will be seeking a fourth consecutive clean sheet in the Premier League, a seventh in a row in all competitions.

Visitors Burnley will need to improve their attacking threat in order to threaten that record. The Clarets have scored just five goals from their seven matches, creating three big chances – the fewest in the Premier Leauge.

The Saints attack has disappointed with just seven goals scored in their seven matches. However, the statistics show that they have the potential to improve on that record in this one: Claude Puel’s side have produced a shot on goal every 4.8 minutes at St Mary’s – only Liverpool have been more threatening in home matches this season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My ML rival was furious when Holebas scored 🙂

All three of my players today with him, Redmond and Friend performed.

Aguero must be on his final warning for penalties by now.
Missing a penalty for Argentina in midweek, as well as yesterday, will not help his frame of mind.

Any danger of Pep taking action? He seems a pretty ruthless manager.
There is also the scenario where Kun walks away from the next penalty and lets someone else take it.

That's speculative at best . I am going to assume he is on pens until someone else takes one or Pep says he is off pens .

Cmon, how many he has missed this season. 4 ?
But we have to wait and see.

Maybe. But Kolarov has been known to miss them. I remember because I owned him once a couple of seasons back. Kun was off the pitch, but Kolarov missed.

Think he'll continue to take them. You don't want to damage your top strikers confidence by taking them off him. He might just practice in training a hit. Besides KDB missed one as well, it's not like they have amazing penalty takers lining up

Kun's confidence may well be shot already.
He might not want to take the next penalty.
        This happened to Baines, remember.

If he is off penalties, he is gone. He has been very lucky with penalties and hasn't really deserved his price tag from open play. Even Ibra is doing better at a much worse team.

      Possibly

But bear in mind, they also had a penalty when he was not on the field- and de Bruyne missed

So there are not many options, and I can't see kolarov getting too much gametime particularly if Kompany stays fit this time

Lukaku is in form now, Aguero has Southampton (with Barca Wednesday) and Arsenal (also Wed game) has Wallcott and Bellerin.

Everton always rely on Lukaku upfront as the main striker with no Champions game, he will score at least 1.

Not necessarily. if Bournemouth can stop them scoring away so can Burnley. Would definitely go Walcott or Sanchez or even Bellerin. Arsenal has an easy game and I wouldn't be surprised if their key players are taken off after 60 mins if they are leading by 2 goals or more. Liverpool are also devastating at home. Firmino and Coutinho are good shouts.

Yes as fifth midfielder. Stoke also has good fixtures.

Points chasing is what I think. You missed the boat with Austin. Look at Southampton's fixtures, then factor EL rotation risk in.

GW14 for Southampton players I feel.

Well, yes and no. My reluctance to lose him meant I delayed getting Walcott by another week. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Yep. Now I just need him to get injured on Wednesday. 😕 But I had 0.0 to spare and couldn't afford a rise.

I almost got Austin for this week, but already have Redmond and then took a look at the next fixtures...

    Hi mates, Thoughts on
    Capoue>Leko (To get the profit)
    Antonio>Mane

That would leave me with a front 7 like this :
    Mane/Firmi/Sanchez/Wally
    Kun/Lukaku/Benteke

        That's why i'm asking
        My other options would be : Alli/Son - Arni/Shaq
        That Would be better ?

Straight Antonio - Arnie really, and that gives you the Capoue option if anyone has a bad fixture/gets injured

I might bight tongue tomorrow....but don't feel the mane love.

Coutinho is class and have 50%set pieces.
Lallana is cheaper and getting more returns.
Milner POO but on other half of set pieces (the best half).

We all know Lukaku leaving Everton for a cl club is inevitable

Assuming he stays in pl which club do you think will get his signature

    A) Arsenal

    B) Man united

    C) Back to Chelsea

    D) Any other ? (city liv etc)

It's not inevitable. He will need to score against the big boys more often like he did at the weekend before they come get him. I think he'd be a great Giroud replacement

C, at pool he will get ruined like Tekkers. Wouldn't fit in at city, with their passing and everything. Would never see him go to united so it's Chelsea or Arsenal for me(hopefully Chelsea!!!)

Hmm, Benteke won't move, Austin isn't really close, so try and wait till after midweek game. If Ibra scores tomorrow, can't see anyone wanting to shift Ibra/Aguero/Lukaku/Costa, which would dent any Austin price rise

When are GW hits applied to your overall score? Is it the first time the OR is updated after the first set of fixtures within that GW?

Those with both Sanchez and Walcott in your teams, if you captained Walcott this week, what was your reasoning behind the choice? Why not Sanchez?

    1. John t penguin
      • 9 Years

Speculation that Sanchez would get rested
Plus took hit to get him so always feels better to cap

I had it on Walcott all week. Then got Sanchez in for -4 on Friday night and captained him. No other reason than that. Not logical but sometimes your new player seems the most exciting choice.

    Foster - Jak
    Kosc - Walker - Williams - Holebas - Amat
    Alexis - Firm - Antonio - Snod - Capoue
    Kun - Luk - Deeney
    Thoughts?
