I think the Ake situation is; if you have him, hold, if not, don't get him in.

5th defender for me, so I might get lucky and he makes it into the Chelsea side. Problem is the 3 players per team rule...

Northampton boss has had to apologise for saying their performance was "men against girls"
Lot of people will think this is pc gone mad but it's 2017. Have to realise that women's footy is not better or worse it's just different

It's exactly fair to compare the two... it's the same game. The men's game is more skill full, quicker paced, more tactically ept, and downright more enjoyable.

Let's call a spade a spade, for crying out loud.

Because it's a s hit load better funded and been going a lot longer. As I said it's 2017 you can't just dis women's sport just coz it's a slower pace

So you're saying men's football is better, because it's bettter funded and has been going longer. Well, exactly!

Women's football has its merits but the skill level and pace of the game means it's far less enjoyable for me to do so. Absolutely nothing against women's football - I'd like my daughter to be a professional footballer if she wants to be.

And I hate having to qualify these comments to show I'm not sexist.

Ok . What if he used a different social group as comparison. Say for instance "men against disabled people" . Skill level, pace etc would be less there too.
Would that be socially accepable to broadcast or publicise that instead. if not , what are the comparative differences between being able to say one but not the other.

But the point is the correct term is men against boys. Its signifys they are playing a group who are still inexperienced and still to learn their trade. Chosing to say men against girls is tabling a whole new agenda to the term by comparing men against a social group he considers to be crap.

Agreed. You shouldn't have to. Having an opinion isn't wrong. I'm not sexist but I could never sit down and watch women's football. Just like I couldn't sit down and watch cricket. I got nothing against women's footy but it's not even close to the man's game imo. Just personal preference. I am a fan of watching woman in other sports like Thai boxing. Seen some brutal fights.

The technical standard is worlds apart, and the fact that men are physically stronger shouldn't make it better or more exciting, it's relative. The women can still compete hard with each other, they're just not as good, it's not got anything to do with the fact they're women though, just that women's football is nowhere near mens in terms of at children's football and grass roots.

You need to get A mindset.

This is pc tosh, just because some liberal says women are equal to men doesn't make it true.

It is ok to understand and say this too, it is not sexist or misogynistic to have this view point it us scientifically correct.

The fact is women are nit equal to men in many areas and men are not equal to women in many others. There will be exceptions of course but women's football I'm afraid is not one of them. I'd say a conference team would beat the england ladies team in a match the standard if women's football is that poor.

My daughter calls them feminazi's. You know the people that think there is nothing more important than absolute equality in every aspect of life including speech. It is damaging to society imo. Equality of opportunity should always be the aim. Embracing the biological differences in ourselves and each other should also be the aim. Not pretending they don't exist.

              Fully agree champ.

We are in the so called era of post truth after the trump election and this kind of pc nonsense is responsible for a lot of it. Free speech is only ok now if what you are saying is pc and agrees with leftist gospel.

I don't think anyone be it woman/man should be treated any differently when it comes to applying for anything but nobody should be denying people are different and some are just not as suitable for certain things as others.

It's underfunded because nobody goes to watch it. The sport is underfunded in Ireland too because nobody goes to watch it there either.

If the standard was better I'm sure loads more would attend and funding would increase.

I can see why you would say that, nobody wants to be told what to say. But it's that type of demonization of 'the left' that led people to vote for Brexit and, to an extent, for Trump. To be fair I think a lot of the issue is with the left vs right dichotomy where people feel forced to choose a side. That's how the US ends up with a two party stalemate.

I think you are partially right but it is not demonisation of the left that brought about brexit but the lack of a voice for the right. If people were any way right leaning they are demonised in today's media, you never hear someone demonised for saying we need to spend more money on social housing! As soon as someone says immigration needs to be controlled they are called nazzi's.

Ps I don't consider myself right or left but I am very concerned at the barrier to free speech which has occurred with the advent of social media and the corresponding rise of extreme right wing movements.

I think Brexit proved that 'the right' do have a voice. Plenty of mainstream publications - the Daily Mail, The Sun etc.- support right-leaning views. I agree though that some people are too quick to call racism on those against immigration. At the same time there are some seriously nasty sentiments tied up with some people who are anti-immigration. The thing that gets to me is the lack of empathy on the part of some people, the inability to put yourself in someone else's shoes and think of the bigger picture.

I think this is the crux of the matter, the left claim the moral high ground with "empathy" and "bigger picture" which means anyone with an opposing view had no empathy and a myopic view.

Maybe you should show some empathy for those that feel threatened by immigration and look at the bigger picture for them of erosion of national identity

I said that some people lack empathy - meaning those on the far right. I never said anyone who wasn't a leftist lacked empathy or had a myopic view. You just projected that on to my comment. I do relate with those who are threatened by immigration. There is a bigger picture than national identity, the Uk as a nation hasn't existed that long in the grand scheme of things.

We were talking left v right and the suppression of free speech due to the left claiming the moral high ground etc with "empathy" "thinking of others" etc etc which is driving people to the right imo as they feel like they are being persecuted for having non left views.

I just think the pc brigade need to tone it down and not jump on people for the slightest perceived injustice. Allow people to say what they want/believe as suppression is a dangerous thing.

The left is it's own worst enemy. I would be considered leftist on many issues yet I find them way more infuriating then right wingers when it comes to trying to debate and discuss anything. It's the sense of superiority, the labeling, the virtue signalling and the intolerance of non conformers. I think what makes social progressiveness appealing also makes it incompatible with critical thinking and nuance

I would have some leftist views and some more to the right but the superiority of the left narrative especially from a moral viewpoint makes it come across as dogma or gospel. I really think it is starting to drive people to the right as centre left is almost despised by the far left now.

I don't think anyone posting on this thread doesn't agree with equality of opportunity for women.

The mantra that women are equal to men is just wrong though and it is this kind of pc dogma that is doing huge harm in the world. The denial of a right to opposing views is driving people to right wing parties and allowing the likes of trump to come to power.

It's time for the pc brigade to start accepting actual truth rather than what they think their form of idealised truth should be. Women are not equal to men and men are not equal to women.

You say "equality for women" as opposed to "equality" because you're under the notion that women need special treatment and can't do things for themselves. There is nothing holding women back in terms of opportunities available.

Even men vs women if the level is the same will always be a mismatch. It's just genetics, biology and hormones.
The fact that men are built better for sport doesn't take anything away from womens football

The term is men against boys though. Its suggesting that they are playing a group of people who are still not fully trained up or adpted to thier role. Using any other group for comparison such a girls, women, blind, disabled is just bringing in unnecessarily offensive comment towards that group

In a lazy way it is, yes, and I agree that's wrong. In another way he's verbalising his anger that his team were so ill equipped vs the opposition. Whether it is girls, men in wheel chairs, or a team of meerkats, isn't a criticism of that group... it should be taken in the context of the sport.

I don't think so. People are just too damn sensitive.
If men vs boys is not offensive, and it's not, then men vs girls isn't offensive. The saying implies a mismatch and he made imply an even bigger mismatch. What about men vs toddlers, is that offensive? Women vs embryo's?

Not great Jaks tough few gwks. 430k. Got Kane in for the soft fixtures and captained, didn't work. Cedric and Holebas stinking my team up too, only just got them out. Firmino and Haz not pulling weight and on last warning. Might have been too patient with some. Eriksen has been the one shining light.

Oh thought you were doing better mate, yea got Kane in for that Hull and Burnley fixture as well, with him as my C in both games too. I kept Holebas for the next game though but he is ill I've heard so hope he'll be fine. I'm keeping Hazard for the next 2 at least, easy swap to Coutinho afterwards. Firmino really annoyed when I owned him but would def keep until after the Swansea game.

I'm doing quite bad actually, sitting 2nd now in a ML with all casuals, went from 3k to 35k in the last 7-8 weeks. But I guess 35k is still 'decent', although I liked 3k more 😀

Re Ake. His development through the levels from youth to premier league has been about as good as it gets. He's a Chelsea player, either he continues developing until he is good enough for the first team or he stalls and gets sold.
It's very individually focused the way they manage these kids and the whole point is to not let them stall or regress. Some players at some point need to experience first team footy on loan. Some don't. Some will thrive on loan until they reach the peak benefit of that environment. Regardless of age now is the time to put him in the chelsea first team. He's spent a season and a half at two premier league clubs and thrived. Now at about 21? he is a first teamer at one of the world's top clubs. Not even a fringe player. He will probably be the first cover for kante/ matic because he is much more suited than fabregas. Covers every defensive position. Can play the wing back role differently to all the other wingers.
This being Chelski you gotta assume this is where it ends because they don't blood the youngsters. Maybe that will change with Conte.

Maybe....and then there's the more cynical side. As long as Chelsea buy good young talent then it means another club doesn't sign that player. Is it better to sign and loan Ake out to Bou or let a rival get him...

Chelsea do it so often it makes you wonder sometimes.

I think the motivation is more financial than anything and it definitely hurts the English game. The talent gets snapped up early then the player is off the market for the next how ever many years. Then the player reenters the market at the top level. Robbing 99% of clubs the opportunity. They really need to regulate tighter.

Now with the new manager in hope Jaku gets starts again... would be a brilliant 2nd GK

Is Jaku starting a realistic prospect? I dont really watch Hull games so no idea how good Marshal is. Looking at his recent stats he has considered 3 goals many a time, but also had 4-6 saves a few times, implying the defence is probably the weakest link not just him. I hope he starts again cause he is my sub keeper and I can make some monies 😀

Do you guys think Alonso + Origi to A.Smith + Giroud is a good option?

Smith should be nailed with Ake going back to Chelsea and Francis banned, but will their defence suffer a lot from these missing players that there are better options around for 4.8 or less?

  18. Aubaaaaa

With Cahill, Luiz, Zouma and Terry around, Ake wouldn't be getting much game time if he returns to Chelsea, right?

Estimating (with a peak at FPL Discovery)...
4.3 million teams * 50% active * 25% of active teams already have three Chelsea * 15% of active teams with Ake * 93% not on WC =
75k active teams with four Chelsea players soon

Fine although man city just won 5 zip. You should have an Aguero plan or at least a sterling one

Getting killed in my ML man, so looking for diferentials. Hence no kun but sterling could be a good shout. Bit of a rotation risk tho?

Personally, I don't think Conte's stupid. He's seen what Ake can actually do given the chance and I'm sure he's got a plan for him - and it doesn't involve warming his arse on the bench every week.

  23. HazardAGuess

    My defence:
    - Bellerin - Injured in training
    - Alonso - Apparently rotation risk now
    - Brunt - Apparently injured
    - Ake - Being recalled (bench probs)
    - Amat - ...Amat

    1. Rhinos
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 3 months ago

Alonso ain't a risk until he doesn't start
      Brunt will be fine
      No idea bout Bellerin
      Ake you can bench

Hope so. Unfortunately I have 3 Chelsea players already. Ake may have to go despite getting him in last week. As a Chelsea fan it's great for the team to have him as backup, although I'd rather see him get more playing time.

Fingers crossed about the rest, anywho.

Was kinda getting on the "let's dump Chelsea players" wagon. But then I realized they had a pretty sucky Leicester without Mahrez and Slimani now and then Hull. Two games too soon me thinks.
