on WC now , and thinking of doing Alonso > Cahill , just to save a potential transfer in future if Ake replace Alonso in the starting elelven..fair to say Cahill is nailed even with Ake and Terry coming back ?

Ake terry Zuma and that's if they play 3 at the back. Alonso currently got no competition

Alonso looked weak against Spurs, Moses wasn't much better, they are weak links, wouldn't be surprised if Conte is looking to improve those areas.

That's not the point, Conte showed after the Arsenal game that he's not afraid to change what looks poor.

Alonso owner here and wouldn't be surprised to see him lose his place.

Surely Ake will not replace Alonso... I would have thought Cahill was most vulnerable but expect Ake to sit on the bench and give us annoying cameo points

Andre Gray getting overlooked a bit around these parts? Good price. Burnley have a pretty good fixture list for rest of season. Could easily get going and chip in points regularly.

Only 8 games at home I think. Not sure what they're going to do on the road. Getting hammered 4-0 by Brom away isn't ideal.

Yeah. Teams have bad games. I always expect them to ship their fair share of goals. I just feel he could be an ideal way to free up cash while also getting returns. Great goal record.

Thing is they just create 2-3 chances all match away from home and he needs to convert one of those. I was tempted but couldn't pull the trigger because of the away record. Happy to jump on if there's signs that Burnley create more on the road.

That's what I'm thinking. When you start to drop down in price, it gets real sparce real quick as to what makes for a solid punt situation.

He has more nailedness than Llorente, which only adds to his appeal for me down in that range. Andy Carroll lurking around as well, but not all too sure he and that West Ham outfit are worth going near. I took the Carroll punt a couple GWs ago and am not exactly loving it right now.

There's a bunch like Carroll that are OK for starts and the odd goal. 2-6 pointers. Gray and llorente are proper goalscorers at their peak.
All the value is in midfield eh

A front line of Kane Costa Ibra, or maybe even going heavier and getting Kun in as well seems like it could be amazing as well. I want more money for mids and forwards! I may have to go bare bones at the back to make the magic happen!

And by the way: Rondon has a higher points per match than the two other forwards he was considering, and has SUN, mid, STK, whu, BOU, CPL after this week.

More superb analysis, perceptive and penetrative. 😕

            Here's mine (written after GW17):

In a recent interview, Darren Fletcher (WBA captain) gave Rondon a lot of plaudits. "He gives a great deal to the team and is a good finisher when chances arrive."

Rondon clearly is a player with potential but he's also hard to predict. He'll trundle along for a while with a chain of blanks and then he'll have a game where he gets multiple attacking points - 2+ goals or a goal+assist. He has only actually scored in 5 of 17 PL games so far this season but on 3 of those occasions he achieved multiple returns. The good thing is that the types of game he seems to score in are when WBA play weaker opposition, just as they have from GW20-27. His goals this season were against Palace, W. Ham, Stoke, Burnley and Swansea. Seems like a pattern maybe.

Rondon's PPG this season is lower than Phillips at around 4.5 points per game compared to Phillips' 5 PPG. But if you take only games against bottom-half opponents (which constitute 7 of 8 games for WBA from GW20-27) it's very close to 6 PPG. Better than Phillips.

The comparison between the two players is also inconclusive. Rondon has more goal attempts per 90 (by a distance; more of his shots are within the box; they are similar on shooting accuracy but Phillips is more creative (by a distance).

If I had a squad that needed a cheap striker I'd be quite comfortable with Rondon in that period of games and if it needed a budget midfielder then I'd be delighted to have Phillips.

This, by the way, is called looking behind the numbers. Everyone can count.

Does seem a bit unfair yes. I think you should be allowed to keep all 4 as reward for playing the game to your advantage. But then that would make the game a bit too elitist.

Chips really should have no place in the game. Bloody joke all the DGW planning and saving your WC for it. Those real time scoring updates I need asap. Someone on here had a link to tables with real time scoring. Unfortunately, it's buggy when it comes to overall scores and game week score if hits have been taken that week.

I think chips were a good introduction to fantasy, how can you not like triple captain? I dont think they should add any more but replace AOA with what I said above. Chips are fine and wild cards, double gameweeks are the odd thing not chips

I feel the chips partly have the hidden responsibility of helping keep players interested. A tactic by those who run the game, if you will.

              • 9 Years

Because it is a gimmick. What next? Quadruple your vice captain? There are an infinite number of ways you can add volatility. Just does not reward consistency enough in my view. The WC/Bench Boost combo is the worst. Instead of everyone wild carding whenever they want or whenever their team needs it, for the most part, everyone is just saving it for the DGW. Basically, it's restricting when a WC is played and the benefits are not big, since most will have similar teams if wildcarding at the same time.

Id like to see the bench boost chip replaced with one where your vice gets double points that week too.

Also. Players that come off your bench shouldn't be elegable for baps. There should be some penalty dished out to differentiate you from the managers who actually had them in the starting 11

I know there would be mind boggling legal difficulties with such a venture but a better prize would make fpl a lot more competitive no doubt

Chose which game you want to join, there can be $10, $20 to join etc... Pick your starting 11 within the budget and hope they score well. Winnings up to $2k. Pretty good.

Lol, why? Afraid of testing your skills in a level playing field? There are people like me who will never look at stats regardless of how easily available it is. Motd highlights are all I need/use to play this game. For me, this game is all about punting. Is my punt on player X better than your punt on player Y. I don't really care how you've decided on that player.

I like basically everything about how Fantasy Major League Soccer does it. They really have made a body of rules that add quality to the game. Think some of its aspects would fit nicely into the FPL game. Like how each game has its own deadline. At kickoff! So we're not left guessing about starting lineups, etc. Also, you can change your subs/captain picks after the first game kicks off so that you are not tied to a decision often made days before a game in question is actually played. I could go on. Think they've really nailed it all around.

Players scoring penalty should not get same points compared to what they get from open play. I think that penalty are bonus to some players. They should get maxm 3points for a penalty goal.

    Guardiola:

“I’m still in the process to know the players, to know what is the best position, to adapt to them. But through the control of the game, through the passes – we have to try. It’s not always possible because the opponents are so aggressive and it’s not easy to do that.

I try to adapt to English football. But in the end the pitches here are smaller and the aggression and with few fouls makes it’s a bit more difficult. But that is what I think we have to try to do, through the passes, through the multi, multi, multi passes. When that happens you concede few. When the ball is up and down, any team in the Premier League is better than us.”

OK then, Pep. The pitches are too small, the referees don't give enough fouls and your team need to make more passes - multi, multi, multi passes - in order to defend better. Seems like your adaptation is going well then. 😕

Incidentally, the UEFA guideline for pitch size is 105m x 68m. The FA guideline is the same. Both La Liga and the Premier League allow pitches as small as

    1. Ruth_NZ

...105m x 65m. But most pitches in the PL are exactly the same size as the pitch at the Nou Camp.

The pitch seems smaller when the players run harder and try harder and play harder and the refs just let them.

Yeah. Shouldn't be allowed. Opponents are supposed to stand off Pep teams and let them play. There's a UEFA byelaw about that I think. 😕

The Fast Aggressive nature will never let him play a slow paced possession football on here. He just needs to realize that and change his style to maybe an Arsenal style of possession play which is just a faster version of tikitaka although not so efficient.

Ake is not going to replace Alonso if he is recalled. Kenedy is also at Chelsea now. Think Ake will be a great backup to Alonso and also to the back four and funnily enough is a decent backup to Kante/Matic as chelsea is getting very shorthanded with the selling of Oscar and Mikel. A very good versatile option who is Homegrown.

Asked that question too soon and phrased it incorrectly.

Anyway, need to get Sanchez in this week. 2FT.

        Heaton
        Valencia Smith Brunt
        Mane Firm Siggy Alli
        Ibra Kane Defoe

        Jaku Capoo Williams Nyom

Was on Mane + Ibra to Sanchez + Giroud before getting Ibra back a couple of weeks later for Kane. Going cold on that.

        Three other choices:

        A) Mane + Siggy + Capoue to Sanchez + Stanislas + 4.2 -4
        B) Mane + Siggy to Sanchez + 4.2 and play Capoue. Next week Kane + Capoue to Luka + Philips -4
        C) Mane + Firm to Sanchez + Stanislas

        You asked for it. 😛

I think if you have Amat or worse (3rd bench player), you should splash a little bit more and get DeRoon for cover, it's only 0.2 more, but the one or two times you need him, he'll get you 2-3 points or maybe a surprise goal

      1. Ruth_NZ

And then it's important to have four defenders that you can trust. Something like 6.0, 5.5, 4.5, 4.5 and you don't have to rely on DeRoon unless there's multiple benchings or injuries. He's come in handy before. Played Amat for his 6 pointer too 😉

My planned transfer for this week was supposed to be evans -> ake.

Other defs are baines, brunt, jones and holebas.

With the latest news, would it be better to do evans -> chambers instead? Boro fixtures not too bad and he looks nailed as well?

Ideally and without injuries, most gws i would play at least 2 of baines brunt jones with the occasional punt on holly and this 5th def.

    Thoughts?
