Versus – Coleman and Baines

In retrospect, it seems that a lacklustre defeat at Watford in Gameweek 15 has been the making of Everton’s season.

Since that 3-2 loss at Vicarage Road, the Toffees have finally clicked under Ronald Koeman, chalking up five wins and a draw in the subsequent seven league fixtures.

The Dutchman’s decision to roll out a wing-back system has been key to their recent ascent.

Everton have chalked up four clean sheets in the last five Gameweeks, bringing both Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines onto our radars as the Merseysiders offer the perfect combination of form and fixtures for the foreseeable future.

Identically priced in Fantasy Premier League at 5.6 apiece, and with clashes against Stoke, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, West Brom and Hull City over the next seven Gameweeks, we assess the Toffees duo’s recent displays as we look for the most appealing route into Koeman’s much-improved rearguard.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

No Baines in the watchlist. Why? If it is because there can only be one player from each team, that's a peculiar decision.

Well, it's clear what their decision is from the watchlist - Coleman - which contradicts their on the fence conclusion in the article.

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Alonso, Baines, Evans (Chambers, Amat)
    Sanchez, Eriksen, Alli, Lallana, Phillips
    Ibra, Costa, (Barnes)

    0FT, £1.5M ITB.

Chambers is out, and I can never trust Evans, so might only have 2 defenders this week.

Either this week (-4) or next week, would you do

    A) Chambers > Brunt (double WBA defence, £0.9 ITB)

    B) Chambers > Coleman (double Everton defence, £0.3m ITB)

    Thoughts?

    Grant (Jaku)
Coleman - Brunt - Cahill (Jones, Holgate)
    Sanchez(C) - Alli (vc) - Eriksen - Phillips (Davies)
    Costa - Ibra - Caroll

I decide to change: 1.5M ITB

    Grant (Jaku)
Coleman - Brunt - Alonso (Jones, Holgate)
Walcott (vc)- Alli - L.Sane - Phillips (Davies)
    Costa - Ibra - Kane (C)

Depends how brave you are I guess, I have 2 frees like you and I've done Hazard to Fraser so I could bring in KDB.

City's fixtures look good and I'd like him for future doubles, depends on how you like to play the game with regards to being proactive or reactive.

Ideally proactive, and I have to try to hold on to a good rank. With all my chips and WC I have a good shot at a really successful year.

Isn't KDB likely to blank though? With a WC in 33 I'm not bothered getting in players now who have future doubles.

He's blanking in 26 but has West Ham, Southampton and Bournemouth before then, lots of potential there.

Yeah I'll have to think more about my blank plan. I'll ship Ibra out before 26 but don't really want to bench Sanchez and KDB

    5. Balotelli
      • 7 Years

Which formations do you want to be able to play in the future?

If I were you I'd most likely do Holebas -> Funes Mori and roll the other transfer. But of course wait till after pressers before doing anything.

I wouldn't mind double Everton with all the good looking home fixtures from here to season end. So this transfer wouldn't set my overall gameplan back no matter what I would find interesting in the future. A swap of Capoue -> Carroll could do that, but depends on your strategy.

3-4-3 forever. I always come back to it and find any deviation just means extra transfers down the road.

I think Bellerin > Coleman actually looks like a move I'll do at some point. It's really in midfield I'm struggling. I just don't like anyone in for Hazard

        1. Balotelli
          • 7 Years
          7 years, 3 months ago

I wouldn't move Hazard with the team you have (this gameweek at least). As you mention there aren't many viable options out there atm.

Holebas to Funes Mori and then skip the idea of getting Coleman. I'd swap Bellerin for a Chelsea defender instead in gwk 26 🙂

For everyone saying that they think Giroud will start, what is your reasoning? I too think he will start but you never know with the big, combustible turkey Wenger.

Reasons why> Walcott, Bellerin coming back from injury; Giroud not in matchday squad today; small period of rest time between games; Giroud is good versus teams that sit back.

Reasons why not> it's Wenger and he makes random decisions at times; Walcott's hat-trick might force Wenger's hand.

    Cheers

Walcott has had a month of with a dodgy calf and has just played 90, I'm guessing he won't recover well enough to start a second game in 3 days.

Probably a sub run out against Watford and back in the starting line up for Chelsea.

Giroud, Koscienly, Ozil etc was left out of the matchday squad today for a reason.

Wenger can be mad sometimes but he's unlikely to rest players so he can rest them again for the game they were probably rested for.

Chelsea is the big game not Warford, Walcott don't need to be risked.

I do not see the random decisons. Wenger whatever his failings in his twighlight years has always tried to put out the best available ? Some would differ of course. However with Watford at home I think Giroud gets his last start , then back to impact sub when plan A is failing.

His playing of Walcott all of preseason 2015/16 and then dropping him for the season kickoff still haunts me. This season though, yes you're right, he has been consistent in his selections.

Sound like 'FA Cup Injuries' to me, same as with Kane.

Wenger made 10 changes today, that's so arrogant, there has to be some justification for some of them.

      Heaton (Foster)

McAuley, Gibson, Baines (Amat, Van Aanholt)
      Lallana, Sanchez, Eriksen, Alli (Capoue)
      Lukaku, Giroud, Rondon

      1FT, 2.1ITB

      A) Lallana + Giroud OUT, Stanislas + Ibra IN
      B) Upgrade Gibson to ????
      C) Upgrade Capoue to Stanislas
      D) Save transfer
      E) Recommendations?

        D).

I'd expect Giroud to start. Stanislas train has left town (fixtures simply not worth it) so no need for A) or C). B) I'd consider a wasted transfer more or less.

Liverpool should improve with Mané back and Coutinho back to full strength, and I think Spurs have got enough this year.
