Coleman Suffers Cruel Leg Break

It has been confirmed that Everton’s Seamus Coleman has suffered a broken leg playing for the Republic of Ireland against Wales in Friday’s World Cup Qualifier, following a horrific challenge by Aston Villa’s Neil Taylor.

The full-back was stretchered from the field on 72 minutes with his with the Irish physios attempting to hold his lower-right leg in position. Post-match is was confirmed that Coleman had been taken to hospital with a break.

A key Fantasy asset, Coleman is currently owned by over 851,000 (19.3%) Fantasy Premier League managers having provided a consistent stream of recent returns. The full-back has produced a goal, assist or clean sheet in nine of his last ten Gameweeks.

He will be huge loss to Everton and the Republic of Ireland and we can only wish the player a speedy recovery.

From a Fantasy perspective, his absence will likely see Everton boss Ronald Koeman turn to 20-year-old Mason Holgate, priced at 4.0, to fill the significant void at right-back.

Elsewhere, Coleman’s sales will no doubt lead to heavy investment in Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia ahead of his double Gameweek 34.

Spurs’ Kyle Walker would also become a popular target for Coleman’s current owners, along with Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand; the Saints left-back has produced four assists in his last five outings and will enjoy 11 fixtures over his final nine Gameweeks.

Regardless, tonight our thoughts are with the Everton man – a player who will undoubtedly figure in our squads as key asset on his return to the pitch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Coleman is on -10.6 NTI as of 04:30... Am I mistaken or is that 10,500 transfer out in 2 hours, in the middle of the night, during at international break? Assuming that continues for the full day, he could be on -150k By end of day?

I think they just need to be treated as bonus fixtures. They are not great but they are OK, nobody is guaranteed a clean sheet but 2 matches give them more of a chance and Wenger rotates his defence less than the rest of the side.

Does international football still contain an allure for you?

As an Englishman it contains little as frankly our position in the world is not what it was.

People from other continents do you enjoy your international football more?

No. Not since the cable tv stations made live football available all the time.

And once internet and fantasy football games kicked in, thats all she wrote.

Mind you, if they have a fantasy world cup or euro competition, i will suddenly be interested in international football again!

Really gutted for Seamus. What bad luck at peak of one's career.

And from fpl point of view also I am sad. He was going to be my season keeper. Really hope he is back sometime next season.

I really feel all these intls whether qualifiers or friendlies should be pushed to end of season. Lot of harm done to players when fitness and training rhythms are changed. At the minimum in the second half of the season the leagues should be allowed to run uninterrupted.

Rojo for me is a good replacement for Coleman. Good fixtures and a double coming up. Even if you have Valencia, he would still be worth it.

Another option would be PvA, reasons being:
    1) Double coming up
    2) Sam Allardyce defence
    3) They have everything to play for, hence more motivation.
    4) Has attacking threat
The only downside is the fixtures, but playing against big opposition would give them all the more reason to defend stronger.

Looks like cheap viable FPL defenders Mawson, Holgate & Stephens all played for England U21s last night in their 0-1 defeat in Germany.

From the reports I have read, all played the full 90 mins & no injuries.

Nice to see a couple of ex-Barnsley lads in there from a personal point of view.

England U21s have Denmark to play on Monday, just as a heads up for anyone thinking of buying any of them to replace Coleman.

      Pretty much Valencia.

11 games versus 9, inc 2 DGWs, sometimes plays as wing back so assists or goals always as possibility.

      Downsides
      - currently playing 2 games in South America, could come back tired/injured
      - Man U could prioritise Europa League over trying to finish 4th in PL so could be a rotation risk with lots of games to fit in.

My god only just seen this news. Thoughts with him.

Yet again the folly of making early international break transfers is exposed. Anything can happen.

I'm sure he'll be fine Tony V had a bad one and he's playing better than ever.
