Fantasy Euros U21 Launches

The Under-21 Euros are starting  but while UEFA has let us down this year with no game our Polish friends are doing a good job covering.

An English version of the Polish Fantasy game for the event can be found here, where you can also find more details about the rules and scoring system.

In addition, a FFScout league has been created (code: 575933631).

The tournament is played in Poland and will have 12 teams competing from June 16-30. Teams are divided into three groups of four, with the group winners and the best runner up progressing to the semi-finals.

The deadline for initial selection of squads will be June 16, 5pm UK time, which is also the kick-off of first game, Sweden v England.

A quick glance through the rules tells us that we have unlimited transfers between each round, which means that bench cover is not very important, as long as you try to pick nailed players.

Players earn two points for winning a match so you want to be targeting big teams, while adding a few cheaper players from smaller teams to stay inside your budget.

Selecting your squad

As always U21 squads change a lot with players getting promoted to the national teams. Some teams have got their big stars back for this tournament, so predicting lineups for the first games can be a bit tricky.

Goalkeepers

Stoppers earn minus points for goals conceded and don’t earn any save points so going safe with a goalkeeper from one of the big teams is advisable. Gianluigi Donnarumma (9m, Italy) is priced very highly so instead perhaps consider Julian Pollersbeck (7.5m, Germany) or Everton bound Jordan Pickford (7m, England). Portugal’s goalkeepers have a big gap in price so there could be a potential bargain there, but without confirmation of their number 1 it may be best to wait.

Defenders

Defenders also earn minus points for goals conceded, but get four points for an assist. This has been noticed by many and it is no surprise that Hector Bellerin (8m, Spain) is the most popular defender. Other targets include two experienced attacking right-backs who have both also played as wingers for their clubs this season, Joao Cancelo (8m, Portugal) and Andrea Conti (7.5m, Italy). For other defenders look out for tonight’s England XI to see if any of the cheaper players get a start.

Midfielders

The highest priced midfielders include Saul Niguez (9.5m, Spain) and Renato Sanchez (9m, Portugal), who are very well-known but play in a deep midfield role and are not known for their scoring. Marco Asensio (9m, Spain) and Serge Gnabry (8.5m, Germany) are classified as midfielders but expected to play as wingers so may be better options.  Also consider Lewis Baker (England, 7.5m) and Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes (8.5m) and Joao Carvalho (7.5m).

Strikers

There is already a template attacking trio forming with Gerard Deulofeu (8.5m, Spain), Davie Selke (8.5m, Germany) and Patrik Schick (4.5m, Czech). All of these players did very well in qualifiers and are expected to continue where they left off. If you call yourself a maverick and want something different, then look for the two Italian Serie A big hitters, Federico Bernardeschi (8.5m) and Domenico Berardi (8m). Neither has an impressive record in the U21 but coming from one of the toughest leagues in Europe to play with kids, could mean a lot of points. England’s Tammy Abraham (6.5m), who is a loan target for both Newcastle and Brighton, could be another budget option if he starts tonight.

Here is a link to an earlier hot topic where you can find more information to help you with your selection,

I’ll be sure to keep a close eye on all different foreign websites for late news on lineups.

      Thanks Jonty.
Those who have followed the hot topic probably know most of this info already, but now it's much easier to follow the discussion. I just threw together something quick focusing on the big players, but Bibelnissen presented some excellent cheaper differentials in the hot topic so go and check that out, if you haven't already.

We don't know it for sure. First there was a nwes that he's on the bench but last few training sessions suggest that he may start in place of Piątek.

Pirlo asked about Germany's backline earlier and it's hard to predict because they played 4231/433 for all the qualification matches, but then changed to 352 for their last two friendlies in March. They are a bit low on experienced CB's now with Tah injured so I'll assume it's back to 4 again.

I'm hoping that German papers give their predictions today, but it could also be tomorrow, day before the match.

My thoughts: Pollersbeck was confirmed as number one gk. Stark and Kempf probably center backs. Weiser and Gerhardt as fullbacks, but Toljan is a serious threat. In midfield Arnold and Dahoud are very likely to start and if they go 433, then Amiri would come in as third. If it's 4231 then Selke is up front, with Gnabry on the left wing. Meyer as number 10 if he is fit and Phillip or Öztunali on the right. They could also put Toljan as RB and Weiser as winger. Rough idea, but still a bit all over the place.

Cheers for the Article VS, IMO Toljan is very likely to play. One of their most assured starters along with Arnold, Selke and the GK you mentioned who is confirmed as No.1

    MyXI

    Donnarumma
    Conti, Semedo, Vallejo
    Asensio, Gnabry, Eliasson, Fernandes
Belotti, Schick, Deulofeu + 4 fodders.

Eliasson didn't feature in the qualifications for Sweden but is the leader of goals+assist in the Swedish top tier. Will likely start from on the bench but is in form and could be a maverick pick.

Swedens expected starting XI tonight as reigning champs.

    Cajtoft
    Wahlqvist, Dagerstål, Une-Larsson, Lundqvist

I'm thinking to get one of those but the good thing is that deadline is at 18:00 (Polish time) same as the kick off so you can get Englad squad. I will make my final decisions after I see that line up.

They are priced maybe 0.5-1m more than I would have liked. Redmond hasn't been too great in PL, but this a level down and potential is there. JWP is on penalties and set pieces, plays a bit deeper though.

that's exaclly my thinking:) thats why I picked Baker and he's in my team atm. If he starts today he stays in my team.

You are correct. Thats down the bin then. We sure on Conti playing? Have that 0.5 itb but not sure if I should upgrade to safety or not. He is fullback compared to Rugani though.

He has competition, but the information we have points to him playing. Rugani and Caldara should be nailed CB's and Barreca as LB, because other LB had to be changed late on due to injury. I might go with Caldara myself for differential after looking at his numbers, 7 goals this season from the back is seriously impressive.

so you think that 4-3-3 is better that 3-4-3?

In my situation (assuming a 5.5 Eng def starts) it would be:

fodder def, Kapustka, Baker > Jaroszyński, Mayer, fodder mid

A short tournament like this is a bit of lottery and you add to that all the unknowns with many teams not playing a game since March. Just have to go with something week 1 and in this game it's pretty easy to correct the mistakes for week 2.

                    Pickford
                    Bellerin, Jaroszyński, 5.5 Eng
                    Asnensio, Mayer, Gnabry, Baker
                    Deu, Selke, Schick

I don't think so, for someone who played a lot of RW he didn't get many goals or assists.
More of a general interest in football and then added research for fantasy games when I'm not able to just play casually. 😀

    My draft for now is

    Pickford
    Bellerin, Cancelo, Jaroszyński
    Asensio, Gnabry, Dahoud, Baker
    Deulofeu, Selke, Schick

I'm waiting for England lineup and if Chillwell/Holgate (both 5.5) will start than he's straight in my team and than I will probably upgrade Dahoud to some 8.0 like Kapustka or JWP maybe.

He is one of those I'm looking at, but won't risk week 1. Portugal have used 442 with midfield diamond and 433. Neves looks nailed as DM, captain Fernandes as LCM, Carvalho has played RCM and AM, but Renato will take one of those places, with also few others in the mix too. I would say he has good chance, but hard to say really how good.

Much depending on a 5.5 starter in defence from England, I'm currently toying with two different drafts. One template, and one semi-maverick without Selke and Bellerin.

      I'd gamble on Eliasson @5.0m.
Probably one of the most in form player in the game. I know he doesn't start but good chance he comes in.
As our season is spring to autumn we are in the middle of season. He leads assist table with 8 in 12 matches, 3 goals. Advantage is he played his last league game just 12 days and the one before 15 days ago so no lack of match sharpness.

May not be your cup of tea to pick a non starter but maybe you could use that .5 saved elsewhere.

    Varela
    Wahlqvist, Cancelo, Bellerin
    Eliasson, Asensio, Arnold, Gnabry
    Schick, Del-boy, Selke

Don't really want Gnabry but with Meyer possibly out....

dunno how its possible but I have this team with
    3m in the bank too

    9.0. 7

    8 | 8 | 8 | 7.5 | 7.5

    9 | 8.5 | 8.5 | 8.5 | 8

    8.5 | 8.5 | 8.0

Dunno where to spend extra money
Ah well bench isn't much in this game I guess so doesn't matter much if a player on bench are some 8 millions 4 subs or 4.5 fodders

or the budget is over 100 m ?
