The ScoutCast – Episode 227 – Lift Off

An unprecedented summer podcast arrives following the Fantasy Premier League launch, as Jonty, Andy and Luke join me in the afterglow of a joyous day.

Technically “on the beach” and fighting back to full fitness, we nonetheless brave the airwaves to chime in on the price list, reclassified players and some early formation dancing.

We glory in the potential bargains, lament the overpriced and make bold claims on our lineups that will doubtless be reversed come August 11. If Andy has Chris Brunt in his Gameweek 1 squad, I’ll eat my Free Hit chip.

The FPL Draft game gets a rinsing, and we end the show with our proud declaration of our team ID’s. A conclusion that leaves me feeling rather inadequate even before a ball has been kicked.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

It's not as simple as that however. You need an extra 0.5 as the cheapest forward is 4.5, whereas cheapest defender is 4.0

Boring boring Milner here - amazing points output last season, especially now he's a defender... however, rotation worries around UCL maybe. Have to see if Klopp signs someone there to share the burden with Alberto "Blank" Moreno deemed a fail

With Newcastle sniffing around Abraham my worry would be if Rafa trusts him, and I prefer Ritchie in midfield for them with pens and set pieces in his locker too

I think Monreal is the most nailed defender after Koscielny, and even Kos has his achilles problems that will see him miss games.

Be careful re. Ayew (and Abrahams). Llorente is recovering from his broken arm and will likely miss the pre-season. There's every chance he'll be ready for GW1 possibly relegating these guys to the bench.

Yeah he's going to be sitting on my bench mate - I have looked at Hemed for that. I am also wondering if ultimately I just saw, screw it, get in a 4.5 stk who will never play, or indeed swap Hemed and my 5th midfielder, Ritchie, and play Abraham... but I do prefer Ritchie

I ruled him out because of Depoitre and Mounie

        1. viewoftheland
          • 12 Years
          6 years, 10 months ago

I think Wells will end up playing more than Depoitre.

Mounie is our first choice. That goes without saying. But Depoitre is a similar player to him. I don't see him and Mounie playing together.

Wells provides us with a different option, and in games where we go with two strikers, I'd bank on Wells playing ahead of Depoitre. Probably not enough to be a strong FPL option, but possibly worth monitoring.

              6 years, 10 months ago

Yeah, I reckon so. And you'd generally expect that to be used in the "easier" fixtures.

Certainly last night we played one half with Mounie on his own up top, and the second half with a Depoitre/Wells double act.

Ah I see. Thanks for that!

I've actually got your man Hefele in my starting squad (I mentioned him on our little pod) because of the goalscoring threat, another Hudd native tipped me off and he looks fairly decent at 4.5. Can't stretch to Smith at 5.0 and I think 0.5 will be a bit much. Is that madness?

                1. viewoftheland
                  • 12 Years
                  6 years, 10 months ago

I would avoid Hefele if I'm honest, don't think his start is secure, which is a shame, as he does pose a goalscoring threat, and he's a cult hero.

Injured for the first bit of pre season, and I am expecting Zanka to take his place. With Lowe and Malone competing for left back (I had earmarked Lowe for my squad before Malone signed), I reckon the only two secure options are Smith and Schindler.

As a native, I'm going to pay the extra 0.5m for Smith. I think the attacking outlet he offers is worth it, and with Mounie's heading prowess better than anything you had this season, you could argue more crosses will end up being converted than last season.

However, Schindler is a rolls royce of a defender, and probably scores well for interceptions/clearances aswell. Think he notched a couple too, so isn't completely without attacking threat. Good option at £4.5 imo.

Depends on Walker definitely; I did look at Trippier but I have gone Bertrand at the moment. Great creative stats and Southampton underperformed last year in front of goal; if they sort it out I think 5.5 (I was expecting 6.0) will be good value.

Lindelof is cool, Cedric idk, I prefer Craig Dawson at the 5.0 level

    Foster (Myhill)
    Lindelof Cedric Daniels McAuley 4.5
    Alli Coutinho (RLC Carroll Romeu)
    Kane Lukaku Lacazette

Same formation below, you could fairly easily cover the best captain options every week:

    Cedric Stephens Dunk Clark Yedlin
    Sanchez Pedro (RLC Carroll Romeu)
    Kane Lukaku Jesus

Fab, nah - all about Willian at 7.0.

I think Pogba I am giving a miss, but I will keep an eye on him. As you say, the end product is a real issue; if they get Matic/Dier/AN Other DM I can see why people are thinking he might rampage forward more, but equally there's nothing to say that that will come true. Happy with just Kaku.

I'm not convinced that Sanchez will start the season given that Wenger likes to give players at least a month off so I've gone without him for now.

    Fabianski Nordfeldt
    Luiz Lindelhof Cedric Dunk Rangel
    Fabregas Pogba Ramsey KDB Loftus-Cheek
    Lukaku Lacazette Defoe

I Like it, but if Sanchez is going to play it's back to the drawing board!

Thoughts on Ramsey? Potential bargain if he actually plays.

Look, anyone who watched Wales beat Belgium knows just how good he can play football. In this new set-up he appears to be pretty good, it's a formation that Wales played too so maybe he's getting back to his best?

Not keen myself. Think Zaha and Willian (early on) appeal to me more

+1 Willian probably on set pieces for Chelsea, he and Pedro should start until Haz is back. Assuming they stay with 343.

I've already got Pedro. Not sure who I'd swap him for if I go Ramsey -> Willian, poor choices 8mill and below

assuming Chelsea will get a striker, Willian is far from guaranteed to start and even if so,pedro, Willian and Batschuay doesn´t look like many goals to me... lessening appeal.
but it´s early on and we don´t know much yet
