The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 3 – Saturday

The Manchester clubs are united in tormenting Fantasy Football managers.

In fairness, we should have expected Pep Guardiola’s City teamsheet to prove a source of frustration. It should come as no real surprise.

Even so, he seems determined to baffle us.

Having withdrawn Gabriel Jesus at half-time on Monday night following Kyle Walker’s dismissal, it appeared to signal that Guardiola’s affections were leaning towards Sergio Aguero for the lone striker role.

But just six days later, it was Aguero who made way as the City manager shuffled his formation and personnel in a bid to solve the frustration of Monday’s misses.

Aguero travelled to the Vitality Stadium today on the back of seven goals in his last seven away trips. He was backed by over 265,000 (5.7%) Fantasy Premier League managers with the captaincy.

Inevitably, Jesus took his opportunity to justify his selection. He served up his first goal of the season at Bournemouth having been sold by over 119,000 managers, triggering a 0.1 drop in price.

To make matters worse Aguero, along with today’s other omission from Monday’s teamsheet – John Stones – were both introduced from the bench by Guardiola. Auto-subs and Vice Captains were nullified.

City’s formation change – a move to 4-3-3 – also saw Kevin De Bruyne retreated alongside David Silva and Fernandinho as part of a central three.

That role muted his goal threat and again left him probing around the fringes of City’s 2-1 victory.

Statistically, the Belgian was still the most creative player in Gameweek 3 so far, providing four chances and laying on a big chance for Nicolas Otemendi who struck the post.

But those brief flashes will be lost on his Fantasy owners. They will continue to plot the exit of a 10.0 priced asset that has delivered three successive blanks. De Bruyne has already been sold more than any other player since the passing of today’s deadline.

As for United, while they engineered a 2-0 victory over a stubborn Leicester City at Old Trafford, Fantasy managers were left smarting by Romelu Lukaku’s penalty miss.

It remains to be seen if this dents Lukaku’s stock. There will be an ongoing debate on whether he will retain spot-kicks and whether Paul Pogba could be the beneficiary in waiting.

But for now, we can only consider what comes next in this current Gameweek.

Captained by over 1.7 million (37.3%) FPL managers, Lukaku’s zero point return sat alongside Aguero’s failing and a first blank from Pogba to set up Sunday’s performers.

Spurs’ Harry Kane now heads into a Wembley date with Burnley sporting over 741,000 armbands. Some 53% of his 1.3 million owners have trusted him as their skipper.

Confidence in Kane has been dented following his two single point returns, but now the scene is set for him to deliver the season’s first major twist.

A double-figure tally would cause a significant swing. Couple that with an impressive performance from Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and it would represent a turning point that could spark transfer hits and Wildcards aplenty.

While Saturday disappointed, it means that Sunday could be huge for all kinds of reasons.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Suggestions guys

    Current Team

    Foster/Elliot
    Danilo PVA Jones Cedric Hunm
    Salah Alli Mkhi Redmond Carroll
    Kane Jesus Mounie

Danilo and PvA surely need to go ! Is Wildcard needed to be taken ?

Depends how many players you want to change, just Danilo/Van Aan to someone can do the job

I like the team to be honest. Get Bavies and Naughton in for Danilo and PVA IMO. Then you could upgrade Redmond to Pogba?

      Foster - Elliot
      Bavies - Jones - Cedric - Naughton - Hunnemeier
      Salah - Alli - Mkhi - Pogba - Carrol
      Kane - Jesus - Mounie

Isn't Rose supposed to be back after the international break ? Double united mid with CL about to start would be risky, don't you think ?

I am thinking long-term. Over the long-term I can see Alli, Eriksen, Pogba, Mkhi, Mane, Salah being very high points scorers. Along with Kane and Lukaku up front. But can you afford all of them. Cover Lukaku with Pogba and Mkhi IMO. Cheap at £16.0m.

Personally like this though if you are wildcarding:

        Foster - (Myhill)
        Bavies - Jones - Cedric - Naughton - (Mbemba)
        Mane - Eriksen - Pogba - Mkhi - (Carroll)
        Kane - Jesus - (Calevert-Lewin)

RMWCT: Yesterday's transfer for Britos (decided between him, Naughton and Lowe) together with Benteke's third blank and some other poor choices made me hit the WC button. MUN, MCI, CHE, LIV CL games together with not great fixtures ahead make me choose this as first WC draft:

Elliot, Pickford (4-5 GW Elliot then Pickford)
    Alderweireld, Mee, Monreal, Simpson, Mbemba
    Alexis, Alli, Mahrez, Ritchie, Cork
    Kane, Chicarito, Vokes

(plus 0,6 itb to do Chicarito -> Rooney after 2 GWs if i have an FT)
    Thoughts?

Ok so you have already hit WC?
      I would be worried about
      Montreal game time?
      Alexis heads gone?
      Chico and vokes?
      Man united?
      Liverpool?

I hit WC was too pissed after 15.00 games. LIV, MUN, CHE have CL games MCI have Guardiola so i am trying to find the best way to avoid benching a 8 mil or above player. Of course the transfers to be done until next weekend will be crucial but Chicarito (WHU have to get some points) Mahrez, triple Spurs and Alexis (provided he stays at Arsenal seem to be the first players i ll have. Then Vokes/Mounie, Ritchie/Jese, Monreal.Simpson/ Maguire,Keane are the ones i monitor. I ll also triple Everton after GW 5 and hope for the best 🙂

thoughts on the next move? have 2FT and 0m..zero ideas on who to get

    Forster --- Elliot
Valencia Bertrand Dawson --- Mee Mason
Willian KDB Mkhi Ritchie -- Carroll
    Kane Kaku Mounie

A: KDB >> eriksen/ozil and roll over FT..arsenal have 3 home fix in next 4
    B: KDB + Mounie >> Ramsey + Firmino
    C: KDB + Mounie + Valencia >> Redmond + Jesus + Jones (-4)
    D: KDB + Ritchie >> xxx + xxx

Keep Mounie because he's playing well and otherwise you have too much money up front. I've done KBD to eriksen but I think Ozil will be a great differential especially because of the fixtures but wait to see his performance today

Some early thoughts on this lot?

    Foster
    Suttner - Stephens - Bertrand
    Eriksen - Salah - Mkhi - Ritchie
    Kane - Lukaku - Mounie

    (Elliot - Carroll - Ake - Long)
    0.5 ITB

Players I'm looking to transfer out -

Ake - Not a major issue rotates well with Suttner. Has some good fixtures coming soon.

Mounie - Not liking Huds attacking prospects. Bad kneejerk! But it was to get Mkhi so not too bad.

Salah - A lot depends on today but CL & rotation looming and I might need the money to upgrade Mounie.

Ritchie - Not a major issue but not too impressed by him.

Stephens - Will he keep his spot in the starting 11?

    Sorry for the long post.
    Would appreciate your thoughts!

          I'm currently thinking something like:

Salah & Mounie to Pogba & Chicharito.

But not too sure about United attack Triple up.

Will certainly get rid of Ake on wildcard but for now I guess I'll keep as he rotates will with Suttner and not worth taking out for a hit.

*Do you really want both Mounie & Mooy going forward?
*Might be wise to consider an Everton defender (e.g., Pickford) also. I played my WC last week and regret no going with Elliot for a few & then having Pickford.
*Are you going to captain Lukaku with Spurs nice fixtures incoming? An Arsenal & Spurs captaincy rotation might do nicely for a few weeks.

This I have yet to decide, today will help. I'd also look at Luiz & Schindler and maybe consider Spurs & Swansea for example. These are just suggestions 'cause I am certainly no expert 😉

    Anyone know LMS safe score?

Less than 17 I assume, but likely irrelevant ATM as most will still have half their team to play.

12 but it's irrelevant with so many still to play

    15.5m for MID & FWD.

    How would you spend it?

Considering rest of the attack is:

    Eriksen - Mkhi - Ritchie - Carroll - ___
    Kane - Lukaku - ___

    Appreciate your thoughts!

Incredible how you all are sure about Danilo to be benched by Pep.
He started 2 games and he was one of their best player on the field.
And in GW2 he changed the game in the second half.

Can play right or left with any kind of problem.
Better than Mendy right now, 100% sure!!!!

He's nowhere near Walkers level, and doesn't seem to be able to cross with his left. Think Mendy will keep his place. Its pep though bound to be some rotation

He is one of the few players he has who doesn't pretend to receive the ball always on his feet.
He keeps attacking the space, which is always been something primary in Pep's teams.
        Mendy.......
Man he is nothing but a Micah Richards just more paid.

    2. Witty Pun: Not good at this…

There are no assicurations with Pep. He does not care about any sort of logic. His decisions are made on a higher plane than we can percieve. Next game I wouldn't be surprised if he started Ederson CAM, Danilo Lone Striker, De Bruyne CB and both Aguero and Jesus on the bench.

    Foster | Elliot

    Kane | Lukaku | Quarner

KDB is an issue, and worried about Salah. Alternatives?

Is it a sensible tactic to get Jones on a WC, have a good backup defender and assume Jones won't have many cameos if he doesn't start ?
