The Weekend Team News

Spurs are dealt a massive blow as Harry Kane is ruled out of their trip to Manchester United. West Brom have concerns at the back ahead of a home clash with league leaders Man City, while Bournemouth have mixed news up front as Chelsea roll up to the Vitality Stadium. Here’s our round-up of the team news so far, with eleven press conferences still to come today.

Earlier this morning, Spurs confirmed that Harry Kane has a minor strain to his left hamstring after undergoing assessments.

With a Champions League clash against Real Madrid in midweek, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his star striker will miss tomorrow’s crucial trip to Old Trafford.

“We cannot take a risk for tomorrow, we’ll see after for Wednesday (v Real Madrid). But tomorrow, it is impossible.”

Fernando Llorente or Son Heung-min will now lead the Spurs attack at Old Trafford, with Pochettino perhaps set to field a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Meanwhile, United’s first-choice centre-halves Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, along with Marcus Rashford, were all pictured back in training yesterday.

Arsene Wenger has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home encounter against Swansea City.

Martin Olsson is almost certain to miss out for the Swans due to a hamstring injury, while Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony remain sidelined.

James McArthur and Chung-yong Lee are both doubtful for Crystal Palace’s home fixture against West Ham United due to knocks.

Georginio Wijnaldum has recovered from a knee injury, and is fit to return for Liverpool’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers’ Elias Kachunga has trained all week following a back injury, and is available for the Anfield clash. Collin Quaner has a chance of being involved after stepping up his recovery from a calf injury.

Roberto Pereyra will miss Watford’s home clash against Stoke City due to a hamstring injury, while Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain out.

Peter Crouch (back) is a slight doubt for the Potters, while Bruno Martins Indi remains sidelined.

Tony Pulis will be without Craig Dawson (knee) and James Morrison (achilles) for the home encounter with Manchester City. Gareth Barry (hamstring) and Jonny Evans (groin) remain concerns for the Baggies.

Jermain Defoe is back in training following a hamstring injury and “should be fine” for Bournemouth’s home match with Chelsea, according to Eddie Howe. Josh King has recovered from illness but is now doubtful due to a back problem, while Ryan Fraser will be assessed after picking up a knock in midweek.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed Chris Wood is “touch and go” for the Monday night meeting with Newcastle United due to a hamstring injury, but Sam Vokes could return following an abdominal strain.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this tomorrow’s 11.30am deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from today’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

What's happened to sterling why are people suggesting he's not playing?

It's bonkers... people losing their heads!

Pep started him away at Chelsea, he trusts him, no matter what we might think. He missed out last weekend so my guess is that he plays with Sané at WBA.

With City you could make a case for any of those forward players playing/not playing.

Best to just ignore it and accept they'll be benched from time to time

Look at the 4 players who were rested midweek while Sterling played 120 mins:

      KdB
      Fernandinho
      D. Silva
      Sane

Unless he drops one of the strikers, those 4 will come in and Sterling will drop out.

I would think Sterling is more likely to start then Aguero. (I have both and Jesus!) Debating on whether to take sterling or coutinho out for Salah, thinking coutinho now due to his 'injury'.

In my estimation having perused the Spurs forums:

5% Kane plays vs Man Utd. Unlikely I think. Poch doesn't usually play mind games although this season he's done a lot of things he hasn't done before. Against Mourinho would be the most tempting time to change his MO.

55% Kane is back for the Palace game. Most likely. Kane hates missing games as he always has an eye on the Golden Boot and won't want to miss this prime opportunity. Poch rarely plays a weakened team. He tried once against Swansea this season and got burned.

35% Kane is back for the North London derby.

5% Kane has a long term injury. A long shot. He was walking about normally at an awards ceremony earlier this week and the injury didn't seem very serious when he did it.

If you have 2FTs then transferring Kane out is a no brainer. 1FT and i'd consider it especially if you aren't going to lose SV by moving him out and in again. For a hit? Not worth it.

He has a hamstring injury and there’s a 2 week international break coming up.

What would you do with your best player if you were Pochettino in this situation?

On the Spurs forums the general opinion is that we should bench him till the Arsenal game. The majority opinion however is that Poch won't.

I doubt it very much. I'm also of the opinion that we should mothball Kane until the derby but Kane will want to play both against Palace and for England.

The Spurs forum know as much as anyone else on here about it.

As Haz says below, look at the injury and then determine what you think. It’s a hammy, that’s been confirmed now.

He’s out tomorrow, that’s been confirmed too so 5% of the people on that Spurs forum are f**kwits.

I’m selling because I don’t want £12.7m on my bench earning me zero points, possibly for the next 2 weeks. I’m wildcarding during the international break so if he’s fit by then I can get him back easy enough.

Everyone will have a different angle on this and that’s understandable. The fact that I still have my WC obviously plays into my chosen course of action.

As you say selling makes perfect sense in your situation. I would too. I will probably only field 9 players this GW but have no FTs and I bought Kane at 12.5m. Unless a serious injury is confirmed i'm probably going to keep him or if I take a hit it will just be to strengthen my bench. The worse case scenario IMO is that he's back for the Arsenal match. If I was certain that he wouldn't play vs Palace then I would sell but I think he most probably will.

The fact that he was witnessed walking normally at the awards ceremony suggests the injury is relatively minor but assume whatever you like. I'm just expressing an opinion and not trying to influence anybody's decision making.

So now I know Kane is injured I’m considering changing a player for a hit.

Would you change and of the following for -4

    Mbemba
    Sterling
    Jesus

I’m thinking there at rotation risk.. mbemba won’t play at all but I’ve got .1 in bank..

With Kane been injured I kind of feel I need to change one to garentee a full squad plays..

        Go for it.

I’m weighing up Kane and Wood to Jesus and Vardy for a 4 pointer.

Vardy has a good fixture next week too, then I plan to wildcard.

Lots of people are ditching Vards when this might just be the right time to take a cheeky punt on him.

I'm with you on the fixtures. After Stoke, I'll likely want to move Vardy on (either back to Kane, or Firmino, if he hits form).

With the expense on Sanchez, I'm kind of hedging bets on Kane being out for the next two rested for CPL, as a precaution)... unless I do a -4 to revert.

But y'know! Arsenal - Spurs derby could provide a few goals, too.

I’m with you on this, Hazz. I can’t see Kane back before the NLD.

Even if he plays Palace I’d be ok without him for that week and then get him back in with my WC team.

Personally, think Poch would be better off shutting him down for the next 3 weeks anyway and not risk reinjuring him by rushing him back.

Also, if you’re Poch the last thing you want is Kane getting injured in some meaningless England friendly. Shutting him down now gives him the perfect scenario as he now legitimately can’t send Kane away on England duty.

Should I WC this team or let the autosubs work their magic? Already on -4

    Elliott
    Alonso Azpilicueta Kolasinac Cedric
    Richarlison Zaha Coutinho*
    Kane* Morata Vardy

    Fabianksi | RLC, Mariappa, Carroll

    1. Deulofail

Tbh I don't prefer my WC team, besides the fact it doesn't contain injured players

      Elliott (Fab)
      Otamendi Ward Dann (Daniels Mariappa)
      Mahrez Salah Zaha Richarlison (Carroll)
      Jesus Morata Vardy/Firmino
      2.6 ITB

But I don't want to waste FH chip either.

Depends how much you'd change for the WC. I'd play Carroll 1st sub over RLC and Mariappa (1st sub)

I'd do it. Uncertainty around both Davies and Sterling's minutes even though both have scored well so far.

    Improve this WC team

    Elliott (Fab)
    Otamendi Ward Dann (Mariappa Daniels)
    Silva Salah Zaha Richarlison (Carroll)
    Jesus Morata Vardy

2.4 ITB (Jesus/Morata > Kane possible next week)

Looks very good. Fab -> Pope/Ryan. I wouldn't have Dann but not a bad pick.

    My team is:
    Elliott/Fabianski
    Bavies/Jones/Otamendi/Tarkowski/Mbemba
    Silva/Ramsey/Richarlison/Ritchie/Tarroll
    Kane/Lukaku/Jesus

    I have 2FT.
Salah for Silva and Aguero for Kane?

    Would appreciate ideas too...

I can't see why you would want to sell Silva, a nailed on Man City midfielder.

I'm tearing my hair out, what would you do with this?

    Elliot
    Jones Davies Mee Naughton 4.0
    Silva Sterling Ritchie Atsu Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Vardy

    3.2m - 1 ft - No WC

    Ritchie to Richarlison?
    Sterling to Salah?
Upgrade 4m defender to cover Kane being benched?
    Something else?

Yep - upgrading the defender seems like the percentage option.
