The Weekend Team News

Spurs are dealt a massive blow as Harry Kane is ruled out of their trip to Manchester United. West Brom have concerns at the back ahead of a home clash with league leaders Man City, while Bournemouth have mixed news up front as Chelsea roll up to the Vitality Stadium. Here’s our round-up of the team news so far, with eleven press conferences still to come today.

Earlier this morning, Spurs confirmed that Harry Kane has a minor strain to his left hamstring after undergoing assessments.

With a Champions League clash against Real Madrid in midweek, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his star striker will miss tomorrow’s crucial trip to Old Trafford.

“We cannot take a risk for tomorrow, we’ll see after for Wednesday (v Real Madrid). But tomorrow, it is impossible.”

Fernando Llorente or Son Heung-min will now lead the Spurs attack at Old Trafford, with Pochettino perhaps set to field a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Meanwhile, United’s first-choice centre-halves Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, along with Marcus Rashford, were all pictured back in training yesterday.

Arsene Wenger has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home encounter against Swansea City.

Martin Olsson is almost certain to miss out for the Swans due to a hamstring injury, while Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony remain sidelined.

James McArthur and Chung-yong Lee are both doubtful for Crystal Palace’s home fixture against West Ham United due to knocks.

Georginio Wijnaldum has recovered from a knee injury, and is fit to return for Liverpool’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers’ Elias Kachunga has trained all week following a back injury, and is available for the Anfield clash. Collin Quaner has a chance of being involved after stepping up his recovery from a calf injury.

Roberto Pereyra will miss Watford’s home clash against Stoke City due to a hamstring injury, while Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain out.

Peter Crouch (back) is a slight doubt for the Potters, while Bruno Martins Indi remains sidelined.

Tony Pulis will be without Craig Dawson (knee) and James Morrison (achilles) for the home encounter with Manchester City. Gareth Barry (hamstring) and Jonny Evans (groin) remain concerns for the Baggies.

Jermain Defoe is back in training following a hamstring injury and “should be fine” for Bournemouth’s home match with Chelsea, according to Eddie Howe. Josh King has recovered from illness but is now doubtful due to a back problem, while Ryan Fraser will be assessed after picking up a knock in midweek.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed Chris Wood is “touch and go” for the Monday night meeting with Newcastle United due to a hamstring injury, but Sam Vokes could return following an abdominal strain.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this tomorrow’s 11.30am deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from today’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Why could it easily be two weeks? Poch suggested he could have played on Sat at a push, but he didn't want to risk him.

It's much more awkward than that. Hamstring injuries are tricky. Spurs may try to get Kane back for RM midweek. If so they could easily rest him against Palace. It's not 'fit' or 'not fit' with a recent hamstring strain because the more fatigue accrued the bigger the risk of recurrence.

I am keeping Kane. But it makes no sense to argue that there's a clear-cut answer here. Anything is possible.

Only problem with Lacazette are his minutes, he often gets taken off at around 70 minutes. And I also think that Giroud will get a PL start soon

Anyone own one of Jesus/Aguero and considering replacing Kane by just doubling up for safety. Is this a better option than the other weak looking striker options and with outside chance of both starting

      That’s what I’m doing. I own aguero and doing Kane+Sterling > Jesus+Salah

      1. Pacer.
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 7 months ago

It's an interesting option. Given their current form I think i would rather be guaranteed a minimum of 90 minutes. Even sharing time I think between there's every chance they'll outscore two other strikers getting 180 minutes

        1. Bring the Cavalry
          • 7 Years
          6 years, 7 months ago

I reckon Jesus will start but there’s every chance aguero could to try and achieve the record. Playing it safe and getting them both

My transfer this week was due to be Antonio to Coutinho. Is it worth now keeping Antonio and doing Kane to Firmino instead? This would save 4 point hit on Kane.

    Current team:

    Elliot
    Otamendi Trippier Cedric Cresswell Ward
    Salah (c) Silva Antonio
    Lukaku Firmino

    Subs: Abraham, RLC, Carroll

Yes, Morata should start but the risk of him being dropped is significant. Ok, there's some risk with every player but its especially high when the alternative has scored 2 goals, one of which was critical in his last league game.

Before today, my WC was looking like this:

    DDG / Elliot
    Otamendi / Daniels / Ward / Dunk / [Rangel/Hunemeier]
    Salah / Sterling* / Richarlison / Gross / Carroll
    Kane* / Aguero* / Morata

I am still happy with it, but seems silly to not react to today's news, given Aguero/Sterling are already slight doubts.

Who might you switch Kane and one of Sterling/Aguero to, short-term? Cheers. Probably keeping Aguero, though.

...am I mad to think about Sanchez & Firmino for a couple of games?!

Anyone fancy rating my free hit team?

    Pope
    Bell Dann Ota
    San(c)hez Salah Gross Mahrez Richarlison

Kun is the obvious risk given recent gametime and Napoli/Arsenal up next. I think he likely doesn't start this w/e. I think Sane & Jesus look the most likely to start and they are both great options.

Having Kane, Wood, Davies and need at least one of them to start to field XI with Cork inside, would you take a hit to get Carroll instead of Wood and bench Cork? Dont want to lose Wood or Kane if they are to play next week, but if i cant field XI players hit will cost only 2 points.
