Forging close friendships with other Fantasy managers has been instrumental in Sean Tobin’s success and enjoyment of both Fantasy Premier League and Sky Fantasy Football over the years. 

In our latest Meet the Manager interview we catch up with Sean at a crucial time in his Fantasy career, after reaching the summit of our Hall of Fame and currently in a career-high 18thspot in FPL and 14thin Sky.

With five top 5,000 finishes in FPL and reaching the top 50 in Sky in 2017/18, this season is no mere fluke.

However, modest Sean is still convinced he’s simply got lucky over the years.

During our 30-minute chat, Sean reveals how the counsel of fellow Fantasy managers that he has known for years has been pivotal to his strong finishes each year.

He also explains how his faith in a 3-4-3 formation and reticence to back a five-man midfield has helped drive this success.

Correcting mistakes swiftly has also been a strong ethos to his Fantasy management and it is no coincidence that his only poor FPL campaign was due to being too slow to react to emerging player trends.

      I think with Sane and Sterling rested for the league cup and the FA cup matches, they'll start all 3 (ARS, eve, CHE)

          "He has a little bit of swelling in the knee, and that’s all. It’s a danger you can have sometimes when you come back. He needs time. It is a problem, but it’s OK. We move forward and hopefully he can come back soon.”

      Got Sane and Digne. Will probably stick with those two. Not planning on getting any others. A SGW player like Salah could easily outscore a rotated City mid or striker.

        Also think these need context of the other fixtures in the GW. Could easily see Son, Hazard, Salah and Pogba hauling in those fixtures while the City mid gets rotated.

          You really think there will be mass rotation within City?
          The 2 midfielders ahead of Fernandinho might be rotated, yes, but I think Sane and Sterling start both.

          City cannot afford to slip up more matches in the PL now, and now that they have a head start of 1 match over Pool, they can cut down the point difference even more.

            There is bound to be some rotation over the next 8 games, moreseo if they get a tough FA Cup draw (e.g. Utd or Chelsea or Spurs). They have 8 games in 28 days. The question is when will he rotate?

            He has incredible options - Walker, Otamendi, Kompany, Delph, Gundogan, Bernardo, Mahrez and Jesus are good enough to be in most PL team's first XI. Ederson is the only one who is nailed IMO.

          Agree, only realistic way for me (and many others) is to get rid of Salah or Hazard, and that could backfire.

      Well, those fixtures don't look all that exciting.

      Have: Digne, Laporte, Sané

      Will get: Not sure I will get any more seeing as the blank GW 27 follows for both MCI and EVE. Might even get rid of Digne for the DGW to be honest the way EVE is playing. Maybe change Digne to an EVE mid or another MCI player (no idea which one though).

      Think I may convert Hazard > Sterling this wk (already own Sané), or save a FT and reassess before next w/e. Already loaded up on Richarlison and Digne so guess will probs hold and offload immediately after. Tempted by a punt on Danilo who has started each of the past 5 league matches. Could also go all in on attack (totally carried away 🙂 )and swap Auba > Aguero...

        I have sane and richarlison already.

        I'll prob invest in ederson - but think that may be it considering they blank in gw27.

        And I'll prob captain a single game week player - Salah at West ham or hazard v hudds

        Currently have Richarlison and Sigurdsson.

        Not sure who I'll get - don't particularly want to replace Hazard when he plays HUD, nor Pogba obviously. Might go with no City players.

        The more DGW 25 players you have, the bigger of a problem you have in BGW 27. Rich -> Jota on the cards in a few GWs time and Siggy can be upgraded to Son soon too.

            Got Sterling and will captain. Getting Ederson is a possibility, a boring one albeit. Getting Sane is tempting, but I am unlikely to boot out Hazard or Pogba to do so, and obviously not Salah. Can see Kun and Jesus getting a game each, both on form.

          I already have Richarlison and Digne, and no City. I have 0.9ITB which is exact money for Shaw > Laporte, so I might just leave it at that and steer clear of Sane/Sterling/Aguero. Can't see any of those playing the full midweek game sandwiched between Arsenal and Chelsea.

        Fine with the team for this week, but given the DGW situation, I could:

        1) Use FT on Hamer > Ederson, play him over Fabianski

        2) Next GW: Martial/Camarasa > Sané/Jota (-4)

        Sound good. Or is losing Martial too risky? He's been decent but OG course not scoring points, besides in the FA Cup.

        Team as-is, would be fine in GW27, even with benching Ederson, Sané, Hazard, Digne (one of the latter three will likely be sold anyway.)
