Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 32

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries now, with Chelsea’s concerns up front increasing after Loic Remy picked up a muscle problem in training yesterday.

Aston Villa
The injury worries continued in defence for Tim Sherwood after Ciaran Clark was forced off early on in the 1-0 win over Spurs. Sherwood is also sweating over the fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor up front, after the forward was also replaced at White Hart Lane. After the match, the Villa manager admitted the pair are likely to miss next weekend’s semi-final with Liverpool:

“Ciaran has come off with a knee ligament injury. He’s not had it before. It’s the first time this season we’ve had to name an unchanged team so it’s something we’re getting used to. Gabby’s tweaked his hamstring. It looks like (they will miss Sunday). It’s a real shame as it’s a massive day out.”

Chelsea
Loic Remy missed today’s trip to QPR after sustaining a muscle injury in training yesterday, Jose Mourinho has confirmed:

“Remy got a kick in training and the muscle is sore. We never cry or complain, we just trust the people on the pitch”

After the 1-0 win, the Blues boss was optimistic that the Frenchman will be back in time for next week’s home clash with United:

“Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game.”

Crystal Palace
Left-back Pape Souare was forced off early in the 4-1 win over Sunderland due to injury.

Everton
Leon Osman is set to be assessed after sustaining a groin injury during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw at Swansea yesterday lunchtime.

Manchester City
Reports suggest Vincent Kompany was withdrawn at half-time due to a thigh complaint in City’s loss at Old Trafford.

Manchester United
Michael Carrick was forced off towards the end of this afternoon’s derby win over City, with his withdrawal leaving the hosts with just ten men. Post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed:

“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed but I could not substitute him. He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured.”

QPR
Armand Traore was initially named amongst the subs today but withdrew from the squad after sustaining a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

Stoke
Victor Moses and Marc Wilson were both replaced during the Potters’ weekend draw at West Ham, with Mark Hughes confirming post-match:

“It looks like Victor has pulled his hamstring. It looks like it is in a strange position as it seems to be right behind his knee, which isn’t the normal position you usually get hamstring injuries. We will get it checked, it may be something that isn’t to do with the hamstring so it could be that we get good news. If it is a hamstring, then it could be that we lose him for a few weeks…Marc got a bang right on his hip, fair play to him he tried to go out for the second half and see if he could make it work. Sadly he couldn’t loosen it off and had to be forced off unfortunately.”

Swansea
Bafetimbi Gomis lasted just 17 minutes of Saturday’s early kick-off against Everton before limping off with a hamstring problem, Garry Monk has confirmed:

“Bafe felt a tightening of his hamstring. He will have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious because we don’t want to lose his quality, and we’re already quite thin on the ground.”

Fellow forward Nelson Oliveira missed out with a twisted ankle sustained in training.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s options up front could be somewhat limited heading into the weekend trip to City after both Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia picked up injuries in the weekend draw with Stoke. Post-match, the Hammers boss confirmed:

“Enner was never going to be able to play the full 90 minutes, but he got a kick as well and we’re hoping it won’t be enough to keep him out for next week, because Diafra will definitely be missing. If it’s a thigh strain, depending on what grade it is, it could two weeks or it could be him missing the rest of this season, but we will wait and see. That leaves us very short on the front line with Andy being out, and means goals will be fewer and farther between than they used to be, so if we don’t get that defensive side right then the last six games are going to be tough for us.”

Excellent fixture, playing for a (supposedly) top team and can get massive hauls on his day.

      Plus a lack of alternatives.

Yaya was awful today. No spirit. I was intending to move Sanchez for him for a 1 week punt, but not now. Going to take a Palace mid instead, and then onto the DGW WC.

Honestly if I'm taking a punt on a City midfielder for this GW only I'd get Nasri. Think he will start.

Can't decide between double Chelsea defense (Ivan + Terry + Hazard) or double midfield (Ivan/Terry + Cesc + Hazard) for the double GW.

Can anyone persuade me one way or the other?

Rule of thumb for me is always go with the attacker for a DGW. More explosive potential. I'd go for Cesc.

Cesc is hardly the most explosive attacker though, is he? Plus Ivan and Terry are both fair goal threats in their own rights....

No he's certainly not, but I think he's more likely for a double digit return than one of their defenders over the double. One share in Chelsea defense is plenty for me.

Hmm, you might be right. I was thinking doubling on their defense might be a differential but spreading the risk might be more sensible...

I mean I am firmly in the Alexis is not a must camp, but if you've got him and you can keep him then that seems the more sensible play. The way you're set up that seems fine, and will allow you to take some punts with your free transfers as the season comes to a close rather than having to get in three Arsenal players like mostly everyone else.

Yeah i agree on Alexis but for the dgw its safe to say hes pretty much a must so mo point getting rid now when Boydy can step up as he does when needed. Also got Kosc so just Giroud in after the blank and i'm very flexible with my ft's when everyone else will be getting guys i already have!

    Leicester!

I know they just put Brom away, but WBA are properly pants and not a good indicator of any club's form.

I just can't see them doing that much against Burnley (away) and then home to Chelsea who are on bus-parking duty. They'll likely concede in both games so defenders might return 4-6 if you're lucky, and they're attacking players are too patchy and inconsistent.

I can understand the love, but not for me ... think it's a disaster waiting to happen!

Definitely on the defence. Theyre so leaky. The only real incentive they have is that they play this week aswell.

They have a prospect of a clean sheet at Burnley, who don't score many. Even Chelsea won't put too many past them.

They're playing more attacking now as they realised it's their only hope. So definitely wouldn't buy a defender, but vardy is a good option and cambiasso too especially since both become cheap bench warmers for your squad going forward

So Baines is off Pena's yeah? Didn't realise that. Think that means I'll be going with

Murray and Fabs as my one week punts. Not hugely exciting but chasing rival has Fabs so spose it makes sense. WC next week

Mourinho: "Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game."

Think he said he got a knock in training

I bet Austin will score a hattrick in gw34. I tried to resist selling him but this week I think I'm going to have to.

Goes completely against my philosophy of never selling players with such amazing value.

Anyone else looking at their transfer plans and realising they have a massive benching dilemma for gw 34?

Particularly relevant if you are considering a Leicester forward or mid.

    1. President John F. Keninnsie

I'll be benching either Kane (sot) or Mata (eve).

Yeah it is when you consider benching kane that things get a bit awkward. Remember the weeks people benched him?

Of course. I'll probably bench Mata, but if Kane/Spurs continue to misfire against Newcastle, I'll put some thought into it.
