Scout Notes – Gameweek 36 – Monday

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son fire Spurs into a two-goal lead at the Bridge. Eden Hazard emerges from the bench to trigger a Chelsea comeback as Tottenham’s bid for the Premier League crown ends in chaos.

Supersub Hazard sparks Chelsea revival

Chelsea displayed great spirit to salvage a point against Tottenham and deny their London rivals the title.

Eden Hazard emerged from the bench for the second period as a replacement for Pedro and altered the complexion of the tie, delighting 15,000 new owners with his third goal in two outings. Ahead of a pair of double Gameweek trips to Sunderland and Liverpool, Guus Hiddink explained why he opted to name the Belgian amongst the subs last night:

”Eden has had a difficult season, we can’t neglect that fact, he’s had a lot of injuries. There’s been a lot of frustration and it’s good to see him back. He played 90 minutes at Bournemouth, a less intense game. My plan was to play him there for an hour and then he could be of use in this game. This game was more intense so it was wiser to bring him on later and have him at full speed in the second half. He did very well and we saw, as we have before, what he’s capable of.”

Elsewhere amongst the Chelsea attack, Willian and Diego Costa also picked up the points with an assist apiece. Costa has now produced attacking returns in nine of his 13 appearances under Hiddink and, at a time when Sergio Aguero’s minutes and Harry Kane’s morale are in question, he could be worth considering with a mere 5% ownership for the last two Gameweeks.

In defence, John Terry and Gary Cahill returned to action after stints on the sidelines, allowing Branislav Ivanovic to switch back to his favoured right-back berth after a number of matches at centre-half. Cahill notched his second goal of the campaign, yet we have little faith in a Blues defence that’s mustered a solitary clean sheet in 11 match-ups.

Spurs lose the plot

Tottenham Hotspur’s slim title hopes dissipated as they surrendered a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge.

Harry Kane struck first with his ninth goal in eight outings, before Heung-min Son – who came in for the suspended Dele Alli – doubled the visitors’ advantage nine minutes later. The former’s rich vein of form should deter sales ahead of a home tie against Southampton and trip to Newcastle United, though in light of Spurs’ capitulation, question marks must be asked over their state of mind for the final two fixtures. In saying that, the chance to remain above arch-rivals Arsenal should prove motivation enough for the Lilywhites to finish strongly.

Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen supplied the assists. The former has delivered attacking returns (one goal, three assists) in three of his previous four starts, while the latter hasn’t drawn a blank in seven outings. With Alli out of the picture following his three-match ban, both men represent enticing differentials heading into Spurs’ concluding pair of match-ups, though non-owners will be happy to shop for double Gameweek alternatives instead.

Spurs’ trip across the capital was a fractious affair that descended into anarchy by the dying embers. The North Londoners earned nine yellow cards in all, setting a new Premier League record. Astonishingly, no reds were dished out on the night, yet there’s a strong possibility that the FA will take retrospective action regarding Mousa Dembele’s eye gouge on Diego Costa, potentially ruling him out for the season. Moreover, the governing body might look at Erik Lamela’s apparent stamp on Cesc Fabregas, further diminishing Tottenham’s pool of available players.

On the injury front, Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld were both withdrawn at different points in the second period. It remains to be seen how serious the complaints are, with Ben Davies and Kevin Wimmer primed to earn call-ups in the event that either is sidelined. With a resurgent Southampton attack up next, though, Tottenham’s clean sheet chances look to have taken a turn for the worse, with Alderweireld’s 41% owners perhaps set to cash in if he’s ruled out.

Rough; nothing really, maybe Sanchez(c) fail disappointing but Aguero not playing softened that blow.

Smooth; Coutinho>Payet paid off, as did last week's trades of Defoe and Kane for Martial and Lukaku overall. And of course the mighty Darlow justified my selection on wildcard!

Main smooth is I've reeled in a 180 point ML deficit to just 25! With my TC chip up my sleeve for this week 🙂

Moved up from a shocking 1.5m rank to 431k, hopefully get a big higher over the run-in. Still my worst season ever by a long chalk.

I posted these late in the olde thread
    1. Did Hazard show up just because they could rob Spurs of the title (/was Bournemouth in super holiday mode?)
    2. Will Guus give Hazard 150+ mins over the DGW, even though he've said he will give the youngsters

    1. Sebastes
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 12 months ago

My concerns as well. Guus said he intended to give him 60 mins in the game vs Bou and hinted he's still managing his minutes after injury.

Should atleast be given 120 mins and I'd really like to see 150+. I doubt he will put on the same performance, this was such a big game for everyone...

Talk me into getting him ppl! 🙂

    Thinking of the following:

    1) Rose out?? (anyone apart from Cresswell in)

    2) Payet + Hazard in, one of them with TC.
    KdB + Sanchez out.

    3) Next week get one of Sanchez / KdB back in for free, or both for -4, replacing Townsend / Hazard.

So is this worth it for this week?

Sanchez, Monreal, Otamendi to Cresswell, Smalling, Hazard -8.

    It leaves me with this:

    Mignolet
    Cresswell, PvA, Smalling
Lanzini, Payet (3C), Hazard, Milner, Townsend
    Sturridge, Kane

    Robles, Kun, Simpson, Fosu

    Yes or no?

if he plays 90 on Thurs he won't start on Sunday.

but he has been playing a fair number of mins this season and apparently Klopp gave him the choice of coming off at half time against Swansea and he wanted to play 90mins.

      1. Zizoulicious
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 12 months ago

Cheers! Could be that he asked Klopp to play again on Saturday if he's desperate for more minutes? Seems I'm clutching st straws though.

Do you think it makes a difference whether they go through or not ?

        1. djenzio
          • 9 Years

Saturday will be Klopp's choice not Danny's. Even if he Danny asks to play if Klopp doesn't think it suits the tactics he won't play him. Swansea was different, cause, no offence, it's Swansea.

My opinion is Sturridge will play some part on Thursday, weather it's coming on at about 60mins after Firm's pressing as false 9 has worn Villareal down or as a starter.

Liverpool need goals. Sturridge has an insane goal/minute ratio and it would be very very surprising to see him not play any mins in the most important match of the season so far as he is our best player and biggest goal threat

        2. djenzio
          • 9 Years
          7 years, 12 months ago

and to answer your last question I think it makes a difference if we go through unless there is news of an early return for Origi.

Benteke will prob see more league mins if we get to final.

Europa qualification via the league is still very possible so still something to play for in the league too. Danny needs mins. that's the other side of the coin. How many? Who knows, but the good news for his owners is he can score off the bench too

            Thanks for your replies 🙂

This sounds like bringing him in for Kun would be a bit silly given all the uncertainty around his minutes. I will monitor how things go on Thursay, and if he for some reason only plays half an hour, I will bring him in

            1. djenzio
              • 9 Years
              7 years, 12 months ago

yeah, he is a risk but the thing about him is he can do a lot of damage even with limited gametime. he you knew he would get 120 mins in total then I would prob TC him but the issue is his lesser mins will prob be against Watford although you can make an argument he will want to score against Chelsea more than most teams!

Well, got all the good/sensible DGW options for the rest of my defence. Olsson and Brady are my ultimate differential punts for 37 only.

I'm banking on them defending for their lives against Man U and going hell for leather to beat Watford. Smell some cheapie hauls akin to the Hull players last year. Probably just wishful thinking though...

If so, then Robles may be worth it as a DGW keeper. Save points, and it would be just like Everton to keep a CS along the way away from home.

I saw somewhere that Howard would play the home games, Robles would play away games.
I don't know whether this is just gossip, or direct from Martinez.
**Need to confirm this before the weekend**

However, Howard did let in a soft goal at the weekend. Fans on one Everton forum I looked at were not too complimentary.

I think LEI will bring in the subs and reserves to play the season out. Vardy's going to need three in the next two just to match what Kane has now...not impossible granted, but I think he's broken enough records not to need this one, where as Aguero and Kane need something from the season.

LEI next 2 XI [based on nothing but speculation]

      Schwarzer/Hamer
      Morgan/Simpson/Schlupp/Moore
      King /Dyer/Gray/Inler/Amartey
      Okazaki/Ulloa

Pretty safe depending on rivals chips and captaincy. you have to hope you can at least match their score for the next two weeks and then you'd be protected. play the numbers and you'll be fine, not a time to take risks now.
