Scout Notes – Champions League – Tuesday

Leicester come good to make the quarter-finals of the Champions League on a special, if at times frantic, night at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City 2 Sevilla 0 (3-2 on aggregate)

Sevilla became Craig Shakespeare’s third consecutive victim since taking over from Claudio Ranieri, but the new manager, just like his predecessor, had Kasper Schmeichel to thank for keeping the Spaniards at bay.

Wes Morgan nudged home a Riyad Mahrez dead-ball delivery to level the tie on aggregate before the break of a pulsating tie and Marc Albrighton made it two when Sevilla failed to clear Mahrez’ cross just a minute after the visitors had hit the bar at the other end.

Waves of Sevilla pressure followed – even Samir Nasri’s sending-off for two bookable offences failed to stem the flow – and they had a golden chance to take the match into extra-time when they were awarded a debatable penalty, only for Schmeichel to save his second spot-kick of the tie.

Shakespeare named an unchanged side for the third match in a row and, thanks to his keeper’s heroics, the Foxes finally kept a clean sheet for the first time since a Gameweek 20 stalemate away at Middlesbrough.

That should put the likes of Morgan, Schmeichel and Christian Fuchs back on our radars with the Foxes blessed with a favourable run of short-term fixtures, plus the promise of a double Gameweek to come.

A Gameweek 29 trip to West Ham will provide a test, though home matches with Stoke and Sunderland in the subsequent two could certainly see their assets from back to front enjoy investment as differentials.

Last season’s key attacking pair – Mahrez and Vardy – will surely be considered during this spell.

Found in 8.0% and 8.1% of squads respectively, that ownership is surely made up of largely inactive teams. However, the next three fixtures offer an excellent platform for the pair to blossom further.

Vardy, in particular, could be a tempting prospect for those of us trying to re-jig forward lines missing the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic for two matches and the injured Harry Kane for, potentially, a lot longer.

The possible fallout from Romelu Lukaku’s rejection of a new Everton contract could be another factor to consider when looking at Vardy, who has two goals, an assist and 18 points from Shakespeare’s pair of league matches in charge.

It’s a sign of the growing faith in the Foxes’ striker that almost 14,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have now taken the plunge since last weekend’s deadline, as more look to the King Power club to maintain that recent momentum and steer themselves to safety over the run-in.

In terms of dates for the quarter-finals, the first leg will take place on April 11-12 (between a Gameweek 32 trip to Everton on April 9 and Gameweek 33 visit to Palace on April 15) and the second leg on April 18-19, though Leicester are currently without a Gameweek 34 fixture due to FA Cup postponements.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs, Albrighton, Ndidi, Drinkwater, Mahrez (Amartey 90), Okazaki (Slimani 64), Vardy.
Subs not used: Zieler, Chilwell, King, Gray, Ulloa.

    Morning Lads n Lassies

Listening to the Scoutcast last night - sounds like a lot are holding off on bringing Sanchez in and losing Coutinho for Alli.

I'm bringing in Sanchez & Alli - but don't have the funds to swap out Snodgrass and Coutinho, so Mane is going instead of Coutinho

Does this make Sanchez and Coutinho differentials for GW29

Coutinho has a good record against City, and Liverpool have a good record against the top teams. I'd keep him.

I have Coutinho and keeping him...I want Alli as well but would hold at this point to see how spurs play offensively in Kane's absence...

    WC thoughts?

    Valdes, Pickford
    Alonso, Mustafi, Valencia, Britos, Yoshida
    Sanchez, Alli, Sterling, Pedro, King
    Costa, Defoe, Gabbiadini

Not sure on the GK combo. Gone with Valdes and Pickford since both have a DGW pending but could both have their DGW in 34, leading to one being wasted? Looking for general thoughts too,

Arsenal have decent fixtures with 2 DGWs so went with the cheapest route in their defense. Would love to stretch Defoe to Lukaku but budget doesn't permit, tempted to avoid with no DGW, tough fixtures, nothing to play for and inevitably leaving.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Will Leicester out fox us?

With great upcoming fixtures and strong form on the side Craig Shakespeare's charges look ideally placed to deliver strong returns.

Jamie Vardy has two goalss and an assist under the new regime, while Christian Fuchs has a goal and an assist over Leicester's last two.

Could they and other Leicester players offer us some explosive Fantasy differentials to climb up our mini-leagues?

Or will they let us down, as they have for most of this season?

I think winning against sevilla now they will put their heads on CL.. though in PL they are towards relagation.. will hv to see how the new manager will play the rotation game and hopefully all the players will be fit.

Vardy is worth considering. Mahrez is too expensive still. I'd take a punt on the defence but there always seems to be better options.

They will be riding on this wave of new born confidence, in my opinion. They have jumped out of the bottom three and will now look to secure their contract in PL.

I think they will be great short term punts. They play West Ham and Stoke who don't have much to play for, and Sunderland who simply aren't good enough.

      Tempted by Vardy.

Possibly Fuchs or Morgan, although their double is likely to be a poor one and there are plenty of other defensive options right now. Don't fancy any of their attacking players at those prices.

I still don't trust them. Vardy may score well but is he worth it when Defoe, Gabbiadini and Deeney are much cheaper? Don't think so. Mahrez is not an option at his price and I will never own Fuchs again in my life (1 point in 4 games earlier this season).

Players are too expensive and honeymoon could be over at any time - between someone like Vardy and someone like Costa it isn't even close.

Not Fuchs again, surely not Jonty. 🙂

I very nearly followed you over that cliff earlier in the season. I am tempted though, especially by Vardy. Give me a spare FT and I might switch Aguero out for him - with Kane and Zlatan out he's probably a valid option right now.

The underlying problem is that Leicester's players are still priced on last season's form and that makes them iffy value, 9.6m for Vardy is quite high. Around 8.0m (where he'll be next season) and he'd be a far more realistic option.

Currently Valencia has top billing for me among defenders I want....but I am tempted by Fuchs.

As you say 9.6 for Vardy is very steep...especialy considering I got Lukaku originally for around that.

This whole selling Liverpool players before big teams and buying against the small thing, stinks of inexperience and an inability to learn.
It's literally week in week out now. Almost as if the previous game is the only one in the history of football. It's become a joke.
Lose to Hull, get rid, beat Spurs clammed to get back (form has finally returned) lose to Leicester, get rid, beat Arsenal, we're back baby, buy buy buy, play poorly against Burnley, sell sell sell. Play Man City..., well you know the rest.
It's been like this for years now.

basically got Coutinho in for a hit last GW, expecting him to do well. Then shift one of the 3 who looked the worse against Burnley. Saying Cout looked quite poor and Booby F should be back, im thinking Cout ➡ Sanchez

At the moment it's worth a stick, especially with all the Ibra and Kane spare cash. Surely you can upgrade someone else. I for example can easily do Allen to Alli with plenty to spare.

I think with so many people already using a transfer to offload Kane or Ibra, together with the cash reserves, most people would be wise to stick with Cout (and Mane) and instead upgrade a mid priced asset to, let's say Sanchez.

Because it's no guarantee of points. Yes, there's evidence they play better against the bigger teams, but they've also only scored 1 goal over the 2 meetings vs United, 1 vs Chelsea in the home game, 1 vs Spurs away, 1 vs Everton and 1 at home to Man City. If you have 2 mids, it makes complete sense to sell one. Not like Alli has bad fixtures. Him and Alexis have DGWs to come too.

Have a plus one for a good arguement, but we all NEW the likes of Alli we're going to play this week and so many took a hit to get in a Liv mid only to sell straight away. Each to their own I suppose I just don't like the planning and I see us doing well, as we usually do against this type of team.
Good luck to those who make the move but I certainly won't be.

Sanchez can definitely wait at least a week and Alli can replace 5m mud surely.

A slightly different take - would you keep a Liverpool mid if on a WC this week?

That's my situation as well. I can't see the benefit of keeping say Mané ahead of either Sánchez, Hazard or Alli. Not just worth it imo.

I'm happy to keep Mane and Coutinho this week, but primarily to keep the 2FTs over the break.

I'm saving my transfer this game week so I can sort out any injuries or late returners from internationals.

Hardly a ringing endorsement that their greatest attribute right now is their inconsistency. I've had a double up on them multiple times this season and they really don't follow a trend for very long, so the only protection is to get more than one and treat them as a unit whose points you will average over the long haul.

My latest experiment with them is over considering there are only ten GWs left -- they might have a few more nice games but there are many more attractive midfield fish in the sea going forward.

Prefer the double of Alli and Eriksen. Less of a lottery and Spurs are in much better from. Going Alli and Mane on my WC though

Without Henderson (and possibly Firmino), I can't see them winning at Citeh.

Henderson's directness and pressing really are instrumental to the way they play as a team.

      Morning!

      Anything here worth a hit?

      Heaton
      Coleman - Alonso - Holebas
      Coutinho - Firmino - Lanzini - Fraser
      Aguero - Lukaku - Gabbiadini

      Foster - Carroll - Robertson - Evans

      5.0m in the bank!

Was thinking one of the Liv mids out for Sanchez?

which option should I go for?

      A, Coutinho out Sanchez in
      B clayton,Carroll out > Sanchez and Gray in -4

would be switching to 3-5-2 with option B

midfield and forwards would look like this:

      Mane Coutinho Sanchez Erikson Siggi
      Lukaku Costa

Son is worth 6.8m... And i am sure that he will have 10+ point in at least one of that "2-3" games. Spurs is not just Kane, main players are Eriksen and dembele, and they are in form. So is Alli. So yes, i think he is worth it!

      Heaton
      Alonso - Baines* - Brunt*
      Mane - Cout* - Siggy - King
      Kun - Kane* - Lukaku

      Jaku/Yoshi/Holgate/Tarroll

      1FT and 2.2ITB

      A) Kane/Cout to Costa/Alli (-4)
      B) Kane/Cout to Vardy/Sanchez (-4)
      C) Kane/Cout to Gabbi/Sanchez (-4 and leaves money for fixing defence)
      D) Kane/Brunt to Costa/Walker

      Heaton/Robinson
      Baines/McAuley/Daniels/Maguire/Mawson
      Mane/Alli/Sigurdson/King/Fltecher
      Lukaku/Aguero/Kane

      A) Got to be Kane out right? But do I go Costa?
      B) Or maybe Vardy
      C) Or Defoe

Later two will leave me cash for upgrade to Sanchez. Or is that not necessary?

No love for Deeney on here?

His form has been steady recently and his fixtures are great (including a possible double?)

Currently have Kane, Costa, Lukaku and need to replace Kane.

      I'm torn between Kane > Kun or Kane+Flecter>Deeney+Sanchez (-4)

i brought him in for this week as a replacement for kane and im going to get gabiandini in a couple weeks dependant on how deeney does.

i think hes a good transfer.

          Cheers bro, agreed.

It's basically a question of the next 4 games before I WC in 33.

          Kun vs Sanchez (-4).

          I'm leaning towards the latter.
