The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 29

Alexis Sanchez is taking his turn as the latest heavy-hitter to cause us consternation.

Brought in by more than 91,000 Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of today’s trip to West Brom, the Chilean produced a typically superb goal for the Gunners that, ultimately, was to prove a mere consolation.

Interrupted by recent postponements, his first half strike in the 3-1 defeat means that Sanchez has now provided a goal or an assist in eight of his last nine Gameweeks – a record that ensures he remains the top scoring FPL asset.

An inevitable transfer target with Arsenal due to play another 11 matches over the remaining nine Gameweeks, today nonetheless provided further food for thought for those holding or considering a Sanchez acquisition.

His performance at The Hawthorns started so brightly – the goal punctuating a superb opening period of the game for Sanchez, full of endeavour and neat flicks.

If there were any concerns surrounding his performance levels dipping as a result of recent speculation surrounding his future at the club, they were dispelled in those opening 30 minutes

Then came the clattering challenge from West Brom’s James McClean, a tackle that delivered a blow to the ankle that perhaps should have seen Sanchez immediately withdrawn.

Instead, he played on until half-time to emerged for the second period.

Unable to impact on proceedings as the match slipped away from Arsenal, Sanchez was clearly affected by the injury, eventually giving way on 78 minutes.

A forlorn Arsene Wenger gave a brief verdict on the injury post-match, simply stating that Sanchez’ ankle “doesn’t look good”, later describing it as in “a terrible state”.

Due to depart with Chile for two World Cup qualifiers, including a vital clash with Argentina, we surely won’t have long to wait until we have a fuller prognosis, with Wenger insisting that if there is ligament damage, he will not travel.

But as we know, Sanchez is a player who refuses to bow to injuries. A factor behind his second-half appearance, his desire to play through pain will also doubtless govern the decision to depart to Chile.

Wenger and his Fantasy owners will then face a nervous wait for Sanchez’ return ahead of a Gameweek 30 clash with Manchester City.

But, there are also further concerns surrounding Arsenal’s form and confidence. On today’s evidence, Sanchez will need to carry Arsenal to victories over their remaining matches.

While this would seemingly guarantee him appearances, if fit, over the remaining 11 matches, we perhaps have to question whether his points output can be maintained.

With Sanchez subdued, the Gunners faded badly in the second period, created little and mustered just two efforts on target all match.

Even Sanchez, for all his incredible talent as a player and Fantasy asset, may struggle to go on producing in an Arsenal side so bereft of confidence and creativity.

Wenger’s press conference comments, promising an imminent end to the speculation surrounding his future of the club may now be key to a revival.

That will no doubt be the focus for the media over the international break, leaving us to monitor Sanchez’s fitness and assess whether the alarming Arsenal malaise can be lifted so that the season’s ultimate heavy-hitter can truly shine and deliver.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Nice one TM.

Question, does dropping from 99% (1% from a price increase) to a price fall take more or less transfers that two price drops from 0%? I guess the answer is purely based on ownership levels.

I am naturally thinking about Sanchez, and his potential injury.

Depends on flags and original price. If no flags then it would be like dropping 199%.

If Mané, Firm and Aguero get a total of 30 I hit 100.

Mané 1 goal, assisted by Firm
Firm 1 goal, assisted by Mané
    Aguero 2 goals

    That'll do it, simple.

Costa is the safe pick, on paper, but Big Sam has Palace playing tougher defensively lately - it might not be the mauling people expect.

Check to see how Gabbi does tomorrow. If he keeps getting off as many shots as he has recently, he's a very supportable differential captaincy, I think.

If Sanchez is out, he's probably your first line of business to deal with, and targeting either Pedro (for some Chelsea coverage) or a Spurs mid would make sense.

If Sanchez can play, then Llorente to Gabbi, or just saving, is enticing. Having to play Mawson and Llorente at home to MID really ain't that bad.

Pedro could he risky since they play 3 games in a week after the break. You'd have to fancy Willian to get a start in one of those games.

That's certainly possible. I just wonder which one. You'd expect him to play the first one, then it's Man City, then the Bournemouth match might make the most sense for a rest except they get an 8-day break after that match. Tough to figure out.

Slept over transfer deadline. Danger of waiting til last moment with transfer. But still top of ML. And now, last one still with wildcard.
Tomorrow is my Mane, Eriksen vs. rivals Alli,Valencia, Caballero. 23 p. Lead.

        I don't think so
If it helps the top 5 in the FFS league are

1 Glory munters - Mark Edworthy - Buffrey
2 Mane problems - Lewis Nicklen - Not sure who this is
3 Trigger Happy AFC - Matthew Jones - Numb
4 Cheese Sandwich - Ian Cox - Me
5 Quarter29Feet - Simon Williams Not sure who this is

21 points separate us and Buffrey is sitting in 5th overall

The guys I know are generally quite well off for transfers compared to the average so we have a chance. It is all about getting those extra matches and with these forwards dropping like flies anyone who has left themselves low on transfers may be getting a bit scared right now.

Yes. there is nobody in the top 24 whose team is not locked. but last time I saw an average for transfers left in the top 10 it was pretty low and that was before the blank gameweek, Zlatan suspension, Kane injury it will have fairly eaten into it I would think

It really should be. I don't tend to look at other teams much as there are plenty bandied around this place to know what the template is. Sometimes if I am in a cup.

At least I may be qualifying for the FFS cup this week. I just hope spurs suffer a lack of confidence without their talisman

FPL would have been better if it had rolled that second city game into the second gameweek rather than giving them a double at all i think. Not sure why they didn't do it

re biggest regrets on last page. I did the calculations on just two isolated, simple, poorly reasoned decisions.
Drunk me decided on wildcard saturday form actually works backwards. Swap Lukaku who's playing well for Kane who's playing sh1tt, and to afford it I lose Benteke who looked to be the perfect fit for palace for Andre bloody Gray. Just two matches later bentekaku were sitting pretty on 38 while Grane had managed 19, a long term injury, and a long arse ban for being a racist twit. 27 points down after hits to replace the numpties.
The other one was the classic many fell for. That horrid move from Alexis to Hazard despite Alexis being the standout captain over some very strong fixtures and playing very well, and Hazard having horrid fixtures but in the midst of a purple patch. This was fuelled by fear and doubt and of course backed up by relevant statistics to make the case. All emotional weaselling and no rational reasoning. That one cost me 69 points after just two games, including captaincy.
Both spur of the moment. One fuelled by alcohol, the other by fear and uncertainty. Both dismissed outright by my rational mind, so I overturn the decision by invoking the "gut call" clause, which overpowers all reason based logic with the authority of a higher power. The lingering cognitive dissonance the only clue of the self-mind-raape that's I've just endured/perpertrated/witnessed.
96 points. Two moments. The difference between a 2 or 3 figure rank and an absolute shi1tfight. I actually love that my stupidity was punished so ruthlessly tbh. Yes there's massive amounts of luck involved. But there's also good and bad thought processes to base your predictions on. I put it to you, the "gut" is a bullshi11t concept. It's where our emotional, whiney, girlsblouse selves live haha

My biggest regret was last season when I was sitting pretty well inside the top 1k in around week 11 or 12 and because I let something in my personal life cloud my mind and was frustrated took a -12 hit and ripped some of the best players out of my side. Mahrez to Barkley I seem to remember being a particular weak spot and I had had Mahrez from week one as well.

              Vardy(c) worked out nicely.

But in the process, missed one Lukaku point.

                  Exactly.
No regret though, went for Vardy over Costa.
Surely would have caPtained Kaku then.

                  Costa+ kaku(c) = 34
                  Vs
                  Vardy(c) + kaku. = 38.
Lol will take the 4 point net gain

Did it? I'd be fuming at anyone apart from Lukaku so far this week.

1.Hello lads. Morning to all. How was the match day? 62 with 3 fellas to go and OR is reaching a place where I thought it would never be.
              2. Does anyone know what could be the possible score to qualify for the ffs cup?

                1. Well done
                2. Probably quite difficult to know with so many players left to play but I bet it will be high.

Nice work, thinking it's in the low 60s right now.

Is it typically about the same level for both cups? I remember qualifying for one and not the other once or twice but I cannot remember which one tends to be lower

I guess the members will be lower as more people enter the free for all one.

Walker, Sterling and Coutinho. If Walker doesn't play, then Nyom's 2 points.
