Dugout Discussion – Wednesday

The penultimate fixture of the packed festive schedule gets underway at 7.45pm as Arsenal and Chelsea go head-to-head at the Emirates.

For the hosts, Alexis Sanchez has upped his output in recent weeks – after a slow start to the season, last term’s top scoring player in Fantasy Premier League has delivered points in seven of his last 10 league appearances.

That form suggest that the Chilean is likely to pose the main danger to a defence that’s conceded just four times in their previous 11.

Nonetheless, it’s Alexandre Lacazette who is the Gunners’ most captained player for Gameweek 22, handed the armband by 2.02%.

The Frenchman has been a consistent source of points at home, producing a goal or assist in seven of his 10 appearances, but he’s struggled for a cutting edge of late and failed to find the net since Gameweek 15.

A return to form could reignite interest in Lacazette ahead of four kind fixtures (bou CRY swa EVE) in as many Gameweeks.

Despite a run of two goals in the last nine Gameweeks, Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (3.7%) is the top armband pick for this fixture.

That lack of form means that the Spaniard and team-mate Eden Hazard were among the top five most transferred out players for Gameweek 22, sent packing by 243,000+ and 207,000+ respectively.

Hazard has mustered just a single assist in five yet both he and Morata also have some decent fixtures ahead to arrest their recent declines – over the next five Gameweeks, Antonio Conte’s side host Leicester, Bournemouth and West Brom and also make their way to Brighton and Watford.

Encouragingly for Hazard’s owners, he looks set to return to a central role with the visitors rolling out a 3-5-1-1 formation.

The Gunners, meanwhile, welcome back Mesut Ozil from a minor knee problem, though injuries in defence means that Arsene Wenger is forced to field the likes of Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in his starting line-up.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Thoughts on these moves...

    Pope (Elliot)
    Alonso Ota Jones Masuaku (Robertson)
    Sterling Son Salah Arnie (RLC)
    Kane Kun (Quaner)

    1. Son -> Lingard
    2. Son -> Pogba
    3. Son + Arnie -> Lingard + Pogba (-4)
    4. Son + Arnie -> Lingard + Mahrez (-4)

      I like 4. But no need to take the hit, Mahrez plays Chelsea next and Arnie has Huddersfield.

    Wildcard Advice.

    I've used mine to get the stupid chip out of the way to accommodate this droll d/g/w. Good students of this game should not fret about the chip as good management of your squad makes it redundant.

    Good forward planning, like perhaps a demolition squad would do to take down a large skyscraper. Thorough meticulous planning and leave the stupid chips to the sheeple.

      So what's the advice? Use the wildcard early to get it out of the way?

        (though I agree wildcarding for a big DGW with BB in mind rarely works out as well as we imagine)

        Essentially yes for good managers. It is a distraction, nothing more nothing less.

        Burn it.

      What in God's name are you on about? I really hope and assume you are trolling.

      1 wildcard is brilliant
      2 is off the charts.

        Go to page 45 if you want to get in a dialogue with Wildcard super analysts. My point is if you manage your squad as a forward planner rather than a reactionary you may never need it anyway.

        Burn it.

          So then if you manage it well and never need it, might as well keep (instead of burn) in case there's a time with really bad luck with injuries/suspensions?

            These scenarios are challenges to be dealt with when they occur and to pre-empt what the W/C'erswill do as a flock.

            Like the guy under this comment is doing. Getting all irate about mainstream thought manoeuvers

          Yea such amazing points.

          There aren't such things as injuries, bans, postponements, rescheduled fixtures, rotation, double gameweeks and a million other things.

          Nope none of those exist.

          This place is going to the dogs at times I think sadly

          Wildcards suck!!! Burn them!

    Posting again as I have exact funds for one of the two moves and may need to make one before either of their price rises, probably by tomorrow.

    Hence, which one should i prioritize?

    A) RLC -> Lingard, play 3-5-2 means benching both Ogbonna & Mee almost every week
    B) Christensen -> Alonso, play 4-4-2 while rotating Ogbonna & Mee

      I'd wait to see if Chelsea purchase someone to rotate with Alonso before bringing him in. I'm an owner already so I hope they don't.

      B. Alonso continues to prove to be essential.
      Would not expect Chelsea to bolster a LWB position which is their top strength when they have other bigger needs. And Juve needs Sandro for the CL.

    a. Richarlson > Lingard

    b. RLC > Milivojevic (i know this move is a little side ways).

      Not really

      If I made 0 transfers I would be on 45 points (no captain points inc. as not sure who I would have capped) even with Coutinho and Salah not playing.

      Before I decided to WC I was on a -4, Haz, KDB and DCL out for Arnie, Son, and Kun. I was planning on sticking with no Kane and would have capped Son. I would be on 38(-4) had I stuck with this

      I panicked as Salah was not going to play, Coutinho was rumoured to be out, and no Kane got the better of me so I decided to WC

      On 49 points with Kane(c), Eriksen, Arnie and Ogbonna left.

      I actually watched Chelsea for the first time in a while today and Alonso as a D is totally absurd. If he were an M it would still be a good price for him but even for an M he plays way forward. IMO more so than say Pogba, who doesn't get the benefit of CS +4.

      They played well without him against Everton and his output has fallen off of late.Maybe been benched for a few games might be the kick up the backside that Rom needs.It is nice to see players that are genuine competition for a place as striker in the first team.

    Pep Guardiola revealed that he could miss more matches for City but says the Spain international's family must come first.

    Silva said in a statement on Wednesday via his official Twitter account: "I want to thank all of you for the love and good wishes received in the last few weeks. Special thanks to my teammates, the manager and all at the club for understanding my situation.

    "Also I want to share with you the birth of my son, Mateo, who was born extremely preterm and is fighting day by day with the help of the medical team."

    Silva, 31, returned to play in the 3-1 victory over Watford on Tuesday night for just his second appearance in six matches.

    Guardiola said after the match that the midfielder may miss some games in the future but insists it is up to Silva to decide when he is available.

    "We are very happy David is back, we don't know how long but he made another exhibition -- he's essential, he showed how important he is for us," the City boss told a news conference.

    "He's free to stay or leave, it depends, he wants to stay because he enjoys it but family is the most important thing in life.

    "It doesn't matter if we drop a lot of points because he's not here, I'd never push him. Some days he will be here some he will be out, it depends how his family is."

      B. Morata's squandered chances have gotten him -4 BPS each of the last two games as the lone striker on a team that scored 7 goals. That is flat out awful.

    Funny how a player with 1 double do it haul in his last 11 starts that costs 11.6 is suddenly seen as essential

    Whereas a player with 3 double digit hauls in the same period, 260+ points last season and pretty much the same price is seen as overpriced

      Aguero is nowhere near essential. Just lots of people here act strangely about him. Sanchez is overpriced though. You could get KDB who will arguably outscore him for a mil less.

        I repeat myself constantly, but players' values need to drop faster. Sanchez needs to be like 9.5 to entice buying. Owning him at his price is preposterous. KDB over him is so obvious.

        He's 11.8 with 97 points. KDB is 10.2 with 137. We already know what KDB is and does, and what team he's on and he's got 40% more points at a lower cost. That, to me, makes no sense.

            Kun is the second highest scoring striker despite having only 1331 mins. The other top five are 1: kane: 1681, 3: Firmino 1505; 4: Lukaku 1813; 5: Vardy 1819. So taking away Jesus who replaces him for the most minutes makes a lot of us think he can rack up serious points. I don't see why that is irrational at all.

        I was trying to think of a max arbitrary value for any prompted player to start off with. I don't think any of them deserve a 6.5, seeing performance so far this year, except perhaps Groß. Judging from this year, 6.0 might be the best cap for next year.
