Captain Sensible – Gameweek 30

Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

There’s a two-man tussle for our attentions in this week’s Captain Poll as Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero prepare to host Leicester and West Brom respectively. At present, the Spurs frontman is the favoured option – almost 37% are backing him with the armband on the back of six sets of double figures in his last 12 outings. Kane – who has delivered 18 and 12 points against Chelsea and Arsenal at the Lane from New Year’s day onwards – faces a Foxes side that have conceded at least twice in each of their last five road trips.

Aguero’s home form is a real issue, though. So often the scourge of opposition backlines at the Etihad, the Argentine has toiled in front of his own supporters of late and drawn blanks in three of his four home appearances since returning from injury. The Baggies arrive on the back of four clean sheets in five, though most of those have come at the Hawthorns – they have two shut-outs in four road trips under Tony Pulis.

Olivier Giroud heads the chasing pack. Having served up six goals and three assists in his previous eight, it’s somewhat surprising that he’s been selected by just 5%, given that hosts Newcastle are hampered by injuries and suspension. A collective loss in faith leaves Alexis Sanchez with just 1% backing after notching one goal in his last six appearances.

Eden Hazard (4%) and Diego Costa (3%) are also looking like differentials as Chelsea make their way to Hull. The Belgian has scored in four of his last five away matches, earning 10 points on three of those occasions, whilst Costa has three goals and an assist in his previous trio of road trips, with a 16-point haul at Swansea the highlight.

Elsewhere, the in-form Christian Benteke, Sadio Mane and David Silva come into contention ahead of home clashes against Swansea, Burnley and West Brom.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

People really shouldn't post rubbish as fact.

The Liverpool-Blackburn replay is 8th April. GW34 midweek is 29th April. 3 weeks is sufficient to reschedule Hull-Liverpool. It's not too late for GW34.

Just gotta get rid of that 3rd SOT defensive option to get Mane. It's a transfer for damage control. Chasing a 19 point lead where the guy has Mane and only 1 SOT defender.

If I got Mane it would be tough to stomach Downing on the bench with 10 points

With 2.6 itb, do you guys think it'd be best to prioritise losing Foster, PVA, Bellerin or JWP? Also have 2FT.

Was thinking something like Foster - Guzan and JWP - Phillips:

    Foster, Krul

    Ivanovic, Clyne, Bellerin, Dawson, PVA

    Hazard, Silva, Cazorla, Eriksen, JWP

    Aguero, Austin, Kane

Which two defenders should I bench?

    Rose (QPR)
    Hutton (SWA)
    McAuley (mcy)
    Dawson (mcy)
    Lescott (mcy)

My West Brom defenders have kept me 12 clean sheets in the last 5 weeks (four apiece), but probably have the hardest fixture. Form over fixtures? Form over Hutton at least?

No one's essential. when hazard blanks for a couple of weeks kneejerky people will be considering to sell him for someone who did well in that period.

i ditched him for eriksen on dgw, always planned to get him back as all ml rivals have him...but its proving difficult unless i ditch sturridge for benteke or giroud

think ditching alexis is your only option now. could so sterling to someone like cazorla/ozil the following week

I'm thinking of doing Wollschied to ivan (then downgrading clyne next week) has anybody got any better ideas (3.1 ITB and 2 FT)

    Ospina - Foster
    Wollscheid - Bertrand - Clyne - McAuley - Dawson
    Hazard - Eriksen - Sánchez - Mané - Puncheon
    Kane - Austin - Agüero

To try to free some funds up to upgrade Austin, a bit too much in defence for my liking.

With the WC in hand and everything set for a huge dgw34 only to become 31, 34, 37, world number 1 must be pretty annoyed. This gives his rivals far more equal chance to prepare

youd be -20 if you take two hits.
keep alexis for differential of swap him if you think the rest of your team can do better than rivals

People who own both Foster and Myhill,
Are you simply letting Myhill step in? Or tempted by Guzan for the DGW? Basically it's £0.1m and 1FT to make:

    GW30 - (mcy) become (SWA)
GW31 (QPR) become both (man) & (QPR)

    GW32 & GW33 - play Myhill then use WC

Feeling pretty comfortable with my team, should I just do Bellerin -> Alderweireld? Or get rid of Walters?

    Aguero, Giroud, Kane

    Haz, Ramsey, Mane, Silva, Phillips
    Aguero, Kane, Giroud.
