Euro 2012 – McDonald’s Scout League Update

As Fantasy managers while away the hours until tomorrow night’s first semi-final of Euro 2012, we’re rolling out some updates on the progress of the Fantasy Football Scout leagues across the various Fantasy games so far. First up, we begin a look at the McDonald’s game, analysing those managers who are currently leading the way after the quarter finals:

Nenad Todorovic sits at the top of the Scout league after registering a score of 71 in the quarter-finals. Jordi Alba, Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil were his stand out individuals, while he chose to stick with Cristiano Ronaldo as captain after the Portugal man notched against Czech Republic on day one. Nenad now sits second overall in the McDonald’s rankings, just a single point off the summit with a total of 272 points.

Isaac Lundall is next up, just a couple of points behind. His decision to double up on England and Spain defenders paid off, with captain Ashley Cole racking up 14 points in the previous round. The top two have quite a gap over the chasing pack, with Lee Harding sitting in third place on 258 points, 14 off the top. Picking a couple of Portugal’s backline against the Czechs paid off, while Joleon Lescott, Jordi Alba and captain Sami Khedira helped produce a score 69 points in the quarters – Lee is the third Fantasy manager we currently have in the overall top 10, situated in tenth place.

Surapong Lertthiratoj currently resides in fourth place in the Scout league after picking up a 62 point haul last time out. While his decision to back a couple of Italy defenders paid off, his faith in Germany’s backline backfired after Greece scored twice against Joachim Low’s outfit; Mesut Ozil vindicated Surapong’s decision to hand the playmaker the armband by picking up a 16 point captain return.

Winding up our review of the top five, we have Paul Robinson – a new entrant to the Scout league. Paul was the top scoring player of our featured Fantasy managers with a 78 point haul, thanks to his decision to hand Xabi Alonso the armband; the Spain midfielder duly obliged with a 28 point return, while the likes of Jordi Alba, Joao Pereira and Joleon Lescott boosted his tally at the back.

For the contributors, Paul (I’m talking about myself in the third person here, shocking habit) is the top scoring manager so far – sitting just outside the top 50 in the Scout league on 236 points and 604 overall. Doubling up on Spain’s defence and leaving the armband on Ronaldo was enough for 60 points. Mark is next up, sitting in 187 in the Scout league. Taking a leaf out of Spain’s book, his striker-less 5-5-0 formation harvested 64 points, with captain Joleon Lescott and Joe Hart returning 22 points between them in the goalless draw with Italy. Jonty stands in 649th place in the Scout league after a 54 point haul in the quarters. His decision to captain Italy’s Andrea Barzagli against England paid off with a 14 point return, while Jordi Alba also boosted his tally with 10 points at the back.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anybody thinking the same thing? Fabregas to start and gets benched at the 60-minute mark. Torres comes on and scores. Same case with Gomez and then Klose comes on and does his thing.

    PRATIK....if you're still around pal. I know you were looking for a good film recommendation. (at least I think it was you...sorry if not). An amazing Bengali film that's in my top 5 of all time is ;
    Pather Panchali (1955)

          Yes imo.
Only if they go back to 3-5-2 I can see a slight possibility for Giaccherini starting wide left (like he did in the first two games) ahead of Balzaretti.

I tried this back on page 1 but with no responders I went off to bed: can someone please have a read and give me a comment or two?

"Hi all, somewhat long post but I’ve a slightly different RMT for you here and I’d really appreciate all feedback you can offer.

I’m in a 2-way H2H league which started GW2 and am currently leading 2-1. We have agreements not to buy players already existing in the others team and before we actualise transfers we simultaneously send our planned moves and try to avoid as many duplications as possible through negotiation. So far we’ve managed it well but strategy going into the SF and Final is going to be crucial with, potentially, so few high scorers on offer.

My current draft leaves me with:

    Neuer* / Patricio
    Alba* / Arebeloa / Abate* / Boateng* / 4.0
    Pirlo* / Ozil* / Iniesta* / Khedira / 4.0
    CR7* / Torres* / Oliveira

    * denotes player already in my team and thus unavailable to my opponent
** players already in his team and unavailable to me = Gomez, Hummels, Badstuber, Schweini, Marchisio, Casillas and Silva.

I’d have 0.4 left in the bank and 4FT remaining but, as I said above, I haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet given the nature of our agreement.

Before the inevitable response on my GK spend, let me explain the rationale behind it. 1: I can’t triple on German def because Lahm is too expensive and two may be enough anyway and 2: if Portugal win (not improbable) then I can leave my opponent without a keeper for the final.

    Looking forward to your opinions!"

Hi there. Sometimes people post on here during the FPL season with these kind of posts ..ie .. no exsisting players from ML opponents teams etc.
I just can't handle restrictions when you're playing FF....but each to their own....and if it's fun for you with your mate....why not?
Therefore, I can't rate your team because of the restrictions implied. Sorry but good luck

Ok, thanks for the feedback lads. It is a bit complex I suppose and definitely a nerdy way to play it- we just thought it would be a bit of craic for this tournament, especially during the latter stages as so many will end up with very similar teams from the more and more limited pool available as each round passes.

I hear what you're saying though and, as fellow Irish men, I know you're not seeing me wrong.

9.5- 10.5 I think. Would be nice if about 8.0. Until we see the sort of prices FPL Towers are dishing out we could easily be £2 mil out either way.

Nothing to fear, higher prices make the game more difficult and so gives us an advantage over the casuals!!

Having said that, as price inflation increases, do we think they will raise the total amount you have to spend?

best thing about the acon game and getting the half points is it would mean you need a squad of 15..it would rid of the likes of ferguson/delaet players for instance

Higher prices tends to mess with the market a bit though. It generally means that many people get the same players as higher prices limit the pool of potential options.

Maybe at the start sure. But once we realise who the players that are doing well we realise those are the only viable options. There were so many players that were simply too expensive it eliminated them as an option. If the prices are cheaper we can still get the obscure players and in fact they would likely be better differentials due to the larger pool of players at our disposal.

    Alba Pereira Abate Boateng
    Kheidera Ozil Moutinho

I'd preferably captain Ronaldo to see how things go. If things don't turn out well, hand the armband to Gomez. I'm pretty sure Gomez will get the nod ahead of Klose. Only case I'm worried is Gomez not scoring or contributing anything for up to 60 minute and when Klose comes on, he scores...

I'm thinking of setting up my team for the first 3 games, then wildcarding in the international break after GW3. Do you think I would be better off:

    1) Loading up on risky new players (hazard, giroud, etc) knowing that if they don't come off, I can always get rid after 3 games
    2) Stick with what I know. and use the first 3 games to assess the new players in the league

Wildcarding after 3 weeks will allow you to take maximum advantage of form players and price increases. So a fair argument can always be made for doing that.

Never done it before. Last year I planned my WC for GW12 with the massive swing in fixtures. Previous years I think I just used it when I needed it.

GW3 allows you to set up a team when everything is MUCH clearer. Starting 11, how new players settle, promoted teams, new budget options, swansea without rodgers, etc. Then of course there are the price rises.

If I decide that I am going to use that stategy before the season starts, I can set up my team purely for the first 3 weeks.

Its just a case of deciding whether the one off hit of a big GW score when the DGW comes around later in the season, is worth more than setting up your team for a 20 match stretch, with all the information. What do you reckon?

People point to the big scores from the DGWWC last season as a reason to hold it. But i suggest that you would gain more over a longer stretch, by using it at the beginning.

You should be able to plan for DGWs later in the season, and have the players at least on the bench in plenty of time. Or the odd hit for DGWers is not the end of the world.

Its a sound argument but if you get off to a good start then it could be a bit wasteful. I would go with 2) and give yourself the option to opt out of the idea rather than trapping yourself in it. Generally a team of new players doesn't work as they take time to adjust to the PL.

So, the wheat has been seperated from the chaff and the best 4 teams are left in the competition, for once. What do we think? Spain 1 Portugal 0 and another evening of frustration for Ronaldo, I imagine.
Hopefully the semis will be better than the quarters, which were all rather one-sided affairs.

I'm a day late, as usual. I'd be surprised if this story's been mentioned before though-

          In my Ward this apparently.

The omelette rice I just had is courteously tapping on the door asking to be let back up.

Sorry Gaz, I guess I should have posted a *warning*. Next ward over to me - please keep this kind of behaviour on your side of the border!

    Deadzone really is tonight.

Planning my FPL team as my Euro adventure has all but crashed and burned.

Can't be that bad. Everyone looks pretty much on with this thing, regardless of where they are. Lol thought you're one of the top guys around here.

I know two fists of nothing about European players unless they play here.

Finding both red cards in the first game knocked me sideways in confidence.

Ouch! That sucks. Apart from Cech, who's the other culprit again?

Sczesczsczeny and the Greek defender I put in two minutes before deadline as K Pop wasn't starting.

198 points for 38,061 here. I would have lost interest but I'm locked in a titanic struggle for first place in Papua New Guinea.....if Spain keep a clean sheet I should regain top spot.

I'm on 213 points, protecting my lead for the prizes in my MLs. All I'm seeing is $$$... that's the motivation.
