The Community Round Up

The launch of the Fantasy Premier League game has dominated discussion this week, as the community’s brainboxes leapt into action to help analyse the new prices and a change to the bonus points system. As well as assessing a tactical “bombshell” on the Sky Sports game, we also roll out our regular look at the community leagues taking place this summer.

Hottest Topics

FPL’s revamped Bonus Point System has caused a lot of debate with the community’s eagle eyed members quick to work out which types of players are set to benefit and which will lose out.  Jack(off)Attack was on hand to let us know that defenders could be the immediate winners, with midfielders and attackers set to have to work far harder for their bonus points.

Bedknobs and Boomsticks then took up the baton for the bonus experts by working out which players will benefit. His analysis shows that support strikers like Fulham’s Brian Ruiz, creative midfielders such as Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and central defenders such as Phil Jagielka, of Everton, are likely to be among the biggest winners.

Demi was among the first to look at some of the best bargains in the FPL game. A tall and  handsome Bulgarian stranger from West London was among those he spotted in his crystal ball.

Some smelling salts was needed to revive  community members left in shock at a combined £26m price tag for Robin Van Persie and Gareth Bale. Many are opting for just one of these heavy hitters but some community members have worked out a way to get both in their teamLateriser12 and SAB were among those to show that a credible 15 man team can be achieved with these two giants of the game on board.

Meanwhile, In Tommy We Trust has been using the ancient art of his alchemy to separate the gold dust from the fool’s gold within the FPL game.

Over the last week we decided to ask the community to share their expert advice regarding team selection and strategy in the Sky game. D1sable’s bombshell regarding the captaincy rules gave us more than we had bargained for. His news could prove a gamechanger for Sky players. We await official confirmation about his startling discovery.

Form over fixtures is one of those debates that is intrinsic to Fantasy Football  and when it comes to fixtures they don’t come tougher than Swansea’s. But should a poor opening schedule mean we overlook the investment and new faces in the Welsh side? Saniul certainly thinks a focus on fixtures could be overrated when it comes to a team on the rise such as Swansea.

Green Windmill has looked even closer at the fixture list and poses the question; are there any fixture proof players? Turns out there are quite a few as his excellent analysis shows.

When someone starts a post with ‘sorry for the long post but…’ it’s a sure sign that an epic tome is on the horizon. Pirate’s mammoth 2,500 word thesis on fantasy football strategy was exactly that, offering an armada’s worth of insightful thoughts on the game.

Fancy taking a punt on one of the new recruits in the Premier League? Let Pochettini guide you through their key stats up to now in other leagues.

Finally, McNulty’s look at goalkeeper rotation also caught our eye, especially his warnings about falling into a potential rotation trap.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation game reached its bartering stage  as teams look to swap their assets. A total of six deals were made last week. Chelsea led by Declan, Stoke run by Dynamic, Aston Villa under the guidance of Hvt and Swansea under Joga Bonito‘s leadership were particularly active this week. Big name players such as Radamel Falcao, Thomas Müller and Hulk found new homes. This week teams are bidding on defenders for the second time and submission of midfield targets must also be made by  23:59 (BST) on Saturday. Anyone looking to sign up for the game can do so here.

Not really nailed on. Better alternatives. Doesn't usually take set pieces.

I don't really get it to be honest, it's probably more down to a lack of choice due to the budget constraints of teams with RVP and Bale

      Few things for me:
      Price Point
      Takes Penalties
      Captain
Rotates well with other budget players see CRY, WHM, SOT, NOR

That said, I may be swayed if you got something else in mind?

Anyone looked into budget midfield rotation? I jsut looked into Kacaniklic and Brady (Fulham/Hull)

    sun/NOR/new/CAR/new/CAR/AVL in the first 7.

Not too bad I suppose? A lot would depend on Cardiff though, and of course, if Kacaniklic's nailed-on-ness.

Anyone who has a different pair?

Just done some quick checks on the city attack over the past 2 seasons.

    Negredo 39 goals, 66 games
    Aguero 35 goals, 64 games
    Jovetic 27 goals, 68 games

Jovetic has most games but least goals.
Even including Aguero's "bad" season last year, Aguero still beating him in a side with much more competition for places.
    Negredo top for goals.

Jovetic has only really had 2 decent seasons.
Aguero is on 6 running, Negredo 7.
By "decent season" I mean double figure goals.

    The only included league matches.

    Silva v Navas was;

    Silva 68 games, 10 goals, 27 assists.
    Navas 73 games, 5 goals, 20 assists.

    Silva clear winner.

To me, Jovetic and Navas will be the most rotated of the 5.

Could still be that Aguero is best bet if he is on pens.

Have to admit, I haven't seen much of him.
Looking at the options they have, they'll take some beating this year. This fogets Dzeko and Nasri too. Then theirs Yaya and the best defence in the league.

Might as well see how the first of a million drafts goes...

    RMT

    Ruddy (Boruc)

    Mertesacker, M.Turner, Collins (Clyne, S.Taylor)

Bale (vc), Hazard (c), Walcott, Thomas (Pozuelo)

    RVP, RvF, Rodriguez

Nothing left in the bank. Will keep my eye out for a better option than Pozuelo, but I reckon he could do alright. Keen to take the punt on RvF since he is the main man at Norwich who have become a solid premier league team and a promising opening draw. Initially had Foster and Boruc but found that Ruddy had the same, if not better, fixtures than Foster, plus I doubt Foster will keep a clean sheet this week.

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated, best of luck for the season ahead ladies and gentlemen!

RVP & Bale debate framed a different way...

Let's assume that the Deadly Duo will net us 750 pts.
(250pts each & we double one of their totals as our captain for arguments sake)

Now, our backline & keeper net us another 550 pts.
    (Heavy hitter 160pts, 2 Cheapos 250pts, & Keeper 140)

    We'll have a grand total of 1300pts.
In order to do really well in this game, we ought to score 2000 - 2200pts.

The way I see it is our remaining 5 attackers we need to make up a difference of 700 to 900pts on a budget of 33-35mil...
(Aprox. 6.5mil - 7mil per player at an average of 140-180pts)

This seems a tall order on such a tight budget... No? Yes?

Well the problem with that is that you could make a team that is well-rounded and more financially stable, but most times you will need the top 2 scoring players in the season if you want to be competitive. The other issue is the amount of points those new players will have to make up, and they will lack the consistency of Bale and RVP. It's really a personal choice, because either way you will need to make good choices during the season if you want to get to that 2000+ score. I'm starting with both, but either option is fine, since they do tear a hole in your budget. What are you going with?

Think it's just Bale as I'm hoping that Aguero will be the player he was two years ago & rival RVP production / be a sound captains choice for a full 3mil less.

I really felt like giving Norwich some love and taking VanWolf or Hooper, but just haven't been able to get them in for GW1. Good luck though. It's a decent bet.

I was wondering how coutinho's performances stacked up against the other top-priced midfielders and, after some inspiration from all the homemade intel above, I've put together a crude summary of the points players earn you compared to their cost. The basic formula is their points total, adjusted as though they played every minute of every game, divided by their current price.

All this determines is how much value for money a player would be if they played at the same level this season as last for every minute of the season. You still have to take into account how often they're likely to play, if they are going to perform better or worse than last season, etc. Players whose positions have changed, like Mirallas, are obviously going to benefit or suffer from their new category.

ive mainly picked players im interested in, not necessarily the top or most popular ones.
The number represents points earned over the season per million spent.

    lambert 27.28
    kone 23.33
    carrol 21.95

    van persie 20.49

Interestingly, Keepers and defenders tend to get you a lot more bang for your buck. Of course we spend a lot more on attacking players than we do on defensive ones, but it's interesting to note that you might be better off putting that extra .5 into your two top rows.

Also, RVP's price tag brings him down to around the value giroud offers, while Bale's puts him about par with Michu.

Of course an expensive player earning 20 points per million is going net a lot more than a cheap one doing the same, so dont think you can get away with pocketing all the change.

Given how well I did in my stats courses at Uni, its very possible there are some big flaws in the logic. feel free to point them out.

Similar to my attack except I've got Benteke instead of Lambert. I figure most on here would think we're being too risky taking both Lukaku who won't start both of the DGW and will be absent in GW3 and Soldado who has yet to prove he'll deliver from the off.

I agree on your exit strategy, depends who you'll drop for GW3. I'd keep Hazard, as your mid is pretty strong, and drop Lukaku and Luiz for others. I'll be taking Bony in GW3 to replace Lukaku.

Silva > Kagawa for sure until we've seen how Moyes will use him.
