KPI Analysis – Lambert and Rodriguez

Over the last few weeks, a combination of factors have elevated Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez into many pre-season Fantasy squads. The Saints’ kind opening run of fixtures has caught the eye, while Rodriguez’s more budget-friendly appeal over Rickie Lambert has also played a part in how we assess his potential across the Fantasy games. Having scored three times in the opening couple of summer friendlies, Rodriguez has been quick to hit form and as interest in the former Burnley man gathers, we use the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to analyse the impact of Mauricio Pochettino on both Rodriguez and Lambert over the previous season.

As mentioned previously, the KPI helps us track certain key statistics which are indicative of a player’s form over a certain Gameweek range or season. Having ran the rule over Robin Van Persie’s impact at United compared to his final year with Arsenal, we delve into last season’s data to look at the Saints duo’s performances from Gameweek 1-22 under Nigel Adkins compared to Gameweek 23-38, when Pochettino was installed as the new man in charge at St Mary’s. By also utilising the Comparison Tool across the two periods, there’s plenty for Fantasy managers to mull over.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Another quick **repost** for the FPL draft league if you are interested (will try and organise the actual draft as late as possible, probably next Thursday/Friday before the opening weekend...)

Trying to get an idea of how many people would be interested in joining a Draft League for the FPL this season. For those of you not familiar it is the system that a lot of the US fantasy games use. The basic idea is that there is only one of every player available, so only 1 Van Persie, 1 Bale etc and the managers each take turns selecting a player until they each have a full squad, i.e no player values or budgets. The game will be run on the FPL website (you'll have to get a second team!) and follow exactly the same rules.

    * Probably a max of 10 managers each picking a squad of 15 (as usual 2 GK, 5 DEF, 5 MID & 3 FOR)
    * Take turns picking players in pre determined draft order 1-10. Every player not picked is a Free Agent (FA)
    * FA's can be exchanged for players in your squad you no longer want. FA priority order is the reverse of the draft order (useful to have first pick of the free agents in January!)
*Trades within the league are fine as long as they are no grossly one sided.

What you reckon? Anyone keen or just completely confused? 🙂

Send an email to fpldraftleague@gmail.com if you are interested and i'll keep you in the loop rather than clogging up FFS. Ta

see my response on the last page. Conrad, TM245 and I are already running a draft league (3 divisions of 10 each but could expand it more). would you be interested in combining forces and adding a couple more divisions?

I have been doing this for a good few years now in the states where they have had a league running for over ten years and it gives you a whole new perspective on player fantasy football as a whole. I definitely recommend it for anyone who hasn't tried it before.

    Hazard, Walcott, Coutinho, Mirallas, Thomas
    Soldado, Lukaku, Dzeko

    Mignolet Boruc
    Kosc Collins Brayford Shaw Luiz
    Hazard Walcott Coutinho Snodgrass Kim
    Lukaku Soldado Dzeko

    0.5 in the bank

I am worried about Soldado not starting because of the international before GW1. Is Dzeko woth a punt? Should I downgrade Kosc?

    Cheers.

With Lampard struggling to make the 1st game, only Oscar interests me from the Chelsea midfield, other than Hazard.
Quinn is pure bench fodder, will be changed for someone who is nailed on.
Soldado is a quality finisher and will do well @ Spurs. Also has great fixtures to help him get off to a flyer!
Lukakau looks good for 1 start in the dgw atleast!

          Any time Iron 🙂

Two points I would make is that you seem a little heavy at the back with at least a 5.0 and a 4.5 on your bench, maybe 2 x 5.0. Secondly I don't see the value in leaving 2m in the bank, you don't have 12m striker and so you need to make at least two changes to get RVP in anyway and so why not enjoy the extra money until you make that decision (which is going to be GW4 at the earliest and maybe GW6 onwards). If you just spend the 2m then Jarvis-> Mirallas or Anelka->Lambert, if you trim at the back then suddenly you are looking at the your def bench getting a little weaker but Jarvis-> Silva/Michu etc and you have the dream team midfield.

    Malmo 0-0 Swansea

Here's another facet to Wilfried Bony's game, as the striker makes three clearing headers deep inside his own box as Malmo force a few corners. Didier Drogba style defending from the big man. For £12m Swansea have got a useful asset at the back as well as up top.

Potential additional BPS if he does this in the league too?

snowman - missed your question on the last page so i'll reply here. there's no league that you join. we run a live scorecard and tables that automatically update thanks to Pratik. pulls scores from your fpl team but you don't have to be in an fpl league.

    check out a gw scorecard:http://preciselyme.com/fpl/epl.php
    and the live tables:http://preciselyme.com/fpl/epl-table.php

Anyone having Hammers in there plans would do well to make sure they only have 2 players or no players. imo.

a/ The only 2 players you should consider are Jaask and Adrian as your 2 picks, offering guaranteed game time for your G/K position. Also, you know both players are going to see a lot of action (West Ham) ! So new Baps system could reap rewards.

b/ No need to bother about rotating G/K's you will always have one playing. Esp. Jaask a good point scorer in FPL.

c/ Do you really want a West Ham play outfield player in your team! No of course you don't, as you have seen them play recently and before. And in your heart you know that the newly promoted sides are on a similar level if not better.

I could do a similar synopsis on Saints but I doubt you'll listen

So pick Jaask and Adrian and forget about your keeper worries, then concentrate on getting your exciting outfield together. Done.

Don't agree about no outfield players. Collins is the same price as Adrian and 1m cheaper than Jussi. A starting 4.5m defender in a defensively strong team with good fixtures is a decent pick.

In the attacking spots Nolan is a super flat track bully and Carroll was back in form late last season. For their prices I don't see how they can't be considered as options.

My point is a personal one really and It goes with the gut that the Hammers will be mixing it with the new boys to stay up this season.

None of there players, bar Jaask/Adrian, offer any confidence from watching the way they play the great game. Have them both or none at all. Just heart felt opinion.

The only saving factor I have with the Hammers defense is the Baps scored from there keepers. With the odd clean sheet but I want attacking returns from my defenders.

Are there any Hammers defenders from last season that should convince me otherwise?

This doesn't really tally with your desire to lock in a West Ham keeper...

Not feeling this idea I'm afraid. You can have Mignolet+4.0 for 0.5 less, or Mig and a playing keeper for the same, or two rotating 4.5ers for a whole million less.

Au contraire, I reckon Bonus points are underrated.
A lot of players got upwards of 20 BP's last season
A defender needs 5 more clean sheets or a fwd needs 5 more goals to get those points.
Or someone needing 7 assists extra!!! 7 assists on its own is considered a good season so 21 BP's should never be underestimated.

And if youre having a good season you can have 7,8,9 players in your squad get those pts for you - its at least 200 pt difference at season ebd when you think of captains getting double too.

Sorry mate but youre way off the mark here...

Thought this was interesting. AQUAFRESCA had a poll a few pages back to pick from teh following players. The score after 11 votes was:

    Walcott(10) -- Giroud (1)
Hazard (11) -- Lukaku (1) includes 1 point each where both were voted
Coutinho (5.5) -- Sturridge (5.5) includes 1/2 pt each for a not sure
Bale (3.5) -- Soldado (8.5) includes 1 pt each for both voted and 1/2 pt each for a ?
    Michu (3) -- Bony (7) includes 0 pts for a 'neither'
    Nolan (6) -- Carroll (4) includes 0 pts for a 'neither'
    Baines (2) -- Mirallas (9)

    - The shocker for me is that most people think Mirallas will outscore Baines for the same money. Mirallas will need a 170pt season judging Baines previous exploits - thats NEVER gonna happen..
And Baines has Penos. freekicks, corners and cleansheets, get Baines in your teams folks!

    - Other surprise is Soldado over Bale, it was a tight call when I voted but Soldado 8.5 to 3.5 ahead. I dont think he'll get close to Bales total last year (249) or the yr before (195) but he is cheaper.....and Bale will likely be gone anyway I suppose...

If he's at Man U then its 50/50 for me. Baines would be an attacking machine at United. They typically defend less cos they have the ball more often.
And United score the most set piece goals so that would suit Baines too...
