The Community Round Up

A certain Dutchman, misfiring premium midfielders and the Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points System’s (BPS) love affair with centre-backs dominated discussions among the Fantasy Football Scout community this week. We also catch up with the latest goings-on in the community leagues taking place this season.

Hottest Topics

A look at the top ten FPL points scorers  does not contain a single midfielder; a worrying development for those Fantasy managers used to premium midfielders dominating the game. The fate of expensive midfielderS has been a key discussion this week with QPR Expects…Glory among the pessimists who believe the premium midfield era is over and it is time to invest in centre backs instead. Arsene’s Boys, however, is more optimistic, pointing out that we are just two games into the season. In addition many of last year’s star midfielders such as Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla failed to perform early on, he notes.

As premium midfielders fail to excite us there is now plenty of interest in centre-backs. But is their dominance of the bonus points shortlived? Jamsiep, wonders whether we are experiencing a false dawn, due to a lower than average number of goals being scored this season. His excellent post suggests that centre-backs may not be so fortunate when the goal rate picks up.

Still on the same subject, SAAB has been considering that many of the league’s most attacking teams simply do not have a suitable midfield option for Fantasy managers. He points out that teams such as Tottenham, Manchester United, Southampton and Aston Villa currently just have forwards worth our consideration.

If Wayne Rooney stays at Manchester United could he match Robin Van Persie’s expected returns? King Nemanja’s  analysis of Rooney and RVP performances together last season provides interesting reading for those looking for a cut-price root into Manchester United’s attack.

Owning Van Persie obviously makes captaincy decisions much easier. But for those looking to mix up their armband selection, Impressive Tackle has compiled this handy long term guide to the best non-RVP captains available  all the way up to Gameweek 20.

Finally, Isacki has been taking a look  at price changes and reckons it is far tougher for players to rise in price this season. His analysis also takes a look at the time price changes kick in and how ownership level and flags influence price falls.

Community Leagues

Heels Over Head’s Worst to First 2Million+Club league, which is open to anyone who has an overall rank below 2 million during one of the first five Gameweeks, is currently topped by Gokyo Locos who rose more than 700,000 places on his long march to the top. The code to join this FPL league 459213-545168.

Patrick Star retains his lead in Fifa Las Vegas’s 28-strong league, with a score of 154, closely followed by Messimerized with 151. In joint third on 144 points are MB10 and Somebody’s Gonna Get Lit Up.

Thomass67 and Peppie and Felix’s  league is split into three  groups and topped by Thomass, Daniel and Forca Inter.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s five leagues are ENR, RDB007, Forca Inter, Mind Over Mata and Chazza.

Forca Inter also topped Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing and Early Bird leagues. In the Early Bird league, 349 managers remains after 200 were knocked out, while in the Last Man Standing League, 995 are left after 43 Fantasy managers were sent packing. Entries are still open for the Early Bird League.

In the FFS UEFA leagues, Tommy Tour, the manager of Real Madrid, registered the highest score of the round, with a haul of 75 points.

The most closely fought battle in the week was in their Bundesliga league where The Shadow beat Jack off Attack by just one point. Elsewhere in their leagues , The Light Knight’s Norwich continued to maintain a stronghold on FFS UEFA’s weekly Order of Extreme Valour Award, opted to those who make the most left field choices. He opted for a 5-2-3 formation, which saw both Leighton Baines and Emmanuele Giaccherini pitching in with nine points each. His cumulative score, 67 points, was more than enough to beat the dullard team of his unfortunate opponent Jonty by 11 points.

Some late FFS UEFA news that missed last week’s round up from Gameweek 1 involved the group’s second Super Cup, in which 2012/13’s Europa League winner Acquafresca emerged triumphant 88-76 against last season’s Champions League winner MJ6987.

Meanwhile, the The FFS UEFA Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) comes to a grand finale this week with the TWS End of Season Party on Monday  September 2nd at 20:00 BST, in which team vacancies will be filled by auto-select in a live interactive draw, leaving each team’s fate up to their random number selection. The Shadow‘s Norwich is hotly pursued by a chasing pack of Zep‘s Arsenal, PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham and 4Vets‘ Liverpool. FFS UEFA also tell us that a brand new competition will be launched immediately after the TWS concludes.

In Doosra and Ginkapo’s It’s a Long and Winding Road competition the main league leader is still Back on the Horse. Meanwhile, the leaders of their H2H leagues are: TommyTour, Turbo Dog, MsRed19, Beric, Doolittle, Dino, Konig Luther.

He won't but he may get the nod for PL games, while the rest of midfielders can play against the lesser teams in UCL ( i mean the last seeded ones)..

I'm planning to get him after the blank.

I want to see whether Eto emerges as Mourinho's first choice. If so then that lad rather than Lampard will be where I'll be spending my money.

Anything above 10.0 is overprice for Eto'o. He's not going to play centrally in all games, especially when Mour pulls out another 4-6-0.

Lamps, otoh, has FKs and penos in his locker.

I think I'll captain Giroud. It worked out well for me last week.
He'll be on pens with Arteta still out and I just really like Arsenal as an attacking unit now their confidence is back. NLD = goals (blah blah)
And it'll be my last captain gamble for a good while because I'll have a RVP comfort blanket from GW4.

He played in _every_ single game last season (when not banned or injuried). We've got more depth now so I think he'll see more rest in the "easy" fixtures, which is good for the important fixtures (I think PL will be first prio), Swindon in the league cup for instance.

I just don't see him out being worth a hit, not like the other midfielders are on fire at the moment.

Hey, well that's a completely different story. You'll likely be looking at a -4 then anyways. If you want to go down that route then Hazard seems a good bet to get rid since he's got a blank and is pretty expensive.

Far from convinced by City's fixtures and their defensive resolve with Kompany out. I'd go for a) or b) and have two FTs for the break. Proooobably... start Barkley.

Zaba brings attacking threat which is what I don't want to miss. One alternative would be Vidic but the Liv v ManU game usually has a few cards. But I like the idea of carrying 2FT until after the internationals. There could be some injuries to deal with.

I don't think offloading Benteke is a wise move. Villa plays at home against Newcastle next week

City's defence is not the strongest without Kompany

        Probably C

Well if you believe what you read, lees Dixon said on ITV tht we should see "two big players" at arsenal before the close of the window. Liam Brady spoke about a few surprise on RTE (Irish tv) and areteta apparently told zoo to watch this space in no uncertain terms. So no.

mata's potential points rotting on the bench will be the most disappointing aspect of this season in FF.

Lost quite a few spots last round, so I'd like some help with this team. I could save a transfer but I don't like my chances of scoring well this week

    Westwood/Boruc
    Toure, Zabaleta, Coleman, Turner, Baker
    Hazard, Mirallas, Coutinho, Mourinho, Barkley
    Soldado, RVP, S.Long

    Walcott or Silva for cpt?

My team with 0.5 mill in the bank:

    Boruc- Cech
    Zabaleta, Coleman, Turner- Chester, Toure
    Mirallas, Walcott, Silva, Snodgras-R Morrison
    RVP, J-Rod, Dzeko

    1. Should I just save a free trade and give myself one more week to analyse my expensivish mids to see how mids actually score this year?
    2. What trade would u make?
    3. What should I do about Yolo Toure and Ravel Morrison?
    4. Should I downgrade Cech to Mignolet to gain money to invest in other areas?
    5. This is one plan I have: If Snodgrass/ Mirallas dont perform than downgrade to cheaper mid than upgrade J-Rod to Giroud/Sturridge. Your thoughts?
    6. Am I close to a position to utilise my wildcard or is my team good enough for me to save it for later?
    7. Should I worry about the price value of my team as the overall isnt increasing thanks to the underperforming mids?- all my mates are buying in form players in their wildcards to increase their team value.

    Thank you

Please choose the best way to spend 12.5m on 2 mids:

    a. Snodgrass + James Morrison [proven from previous year]
    b. Barkley + Paulinho + 0.6m [Paulinho have great underlying stats, not produced points yet, Barkley started firing - but for how long?]
    c. Chadli + Barkley + 0.1m [who thinks Chadli can evolve?]
    d. Routledge + Paulinho [again great basic stats for both, no points yet]
    e. Lampard + 4.4m mid [non-playing 4.4m mid]
    f. Other [please specify]

Which team do you guys think is best?

    Team 1
    GK: Mignolet (Boruc)
DEF: Walker, Coleman, Zabaleta, Mertesacker (Collins)
MID: Walcott, Nolan, Morrison, Mirallas (Jedinak)
    FWD: RVP, Sturridge (Chamakh)

    Or
    Team 2
    GK: Mignolet (Boruc)
DEF: Jose Enrique, Coleman, Zabaleta, Mertesacker (Collins)
MID: Nolan, Morrison, Paulinho, Walters (Jedinak)
    FWD: RVP, Sturridge, Giroud

Basically what im saying is it worth dropping Walcott to upgrade my forwards and have a 3 man attack?

I suppose in the end the best way to settle the heavy defence (baps) question is to make a heavy defence team...I've done just that......

    Miigs

Baines Vert Zabaleta (Kompany when fit) Vidic Turner

    Paulinho Michu Nolan Silva Brady

    Bony Giroud Bent

Just have to see how it goes and monitor it...In theory Baines/Vert/Kompany should be nailed on starters and plenty of attacking/BPS points between them.....I shan't move them and see how it goes...(Other than if Baines moves)

if you're going with big defenders you HAVE to get terry or another chelsea defender.

remember that bonus has been given to defenders if they keep a cs so high cs potential is important. also west ham look good for cs this year so I'd get reid or collins

i'd advise something like this instead:

      migs
terry vert/dawson coleman collins, whoever you can afford
      walcott silva michu/lamps/paulinho nolan brady
      soldado/giroud sturridge benteke

I have two uncertainties in my team this week. James Ward Prowess and Townsend.

Are these players nailed on in the long run? Using my WC this week and still have 1.7m in the bank. Defs and forwards are good to go btw.
