The Community Round Up

Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

Can Sakho and Agger play together? I don't think any of them can play as a RCB.

they're both left-footed, so I don't think any of them would play RB. More likely Toure or JE and most likely Wisdom

          OK, I didn't see "C" in there 😉
Then, no idea from my side. I have seen both right-footed CBs, so logically why not bot left-footed..? 😐

Of course they can play RCB.

CBs don't need to be specifically footed, not matter which side they're playing, its all basically central

Would anyone feel that Silva & Sturridge > JWP & RVP for -4pt is worth taking a hit.

Player ratings reckon that JWRVP would edge it points wise but the -4pts makes it pretty equal.

Struggling to decide on my choice of transfer this week. Currently lumped with Siggy and Mirallas too

You think? Reckon Ramsey will come of age this season; him and Giroud have been head and shoulders above the rest of that Arsenal side this season. Can see Arteta struggling to find his way back into the team.

Given I will playing this front 6 every week:
        Silva, Lamela, Lampard,
        Benteke, RVP, Giroud

It's really just a case of rotating Ramsey (whoever else) with Barkley on a weekly basis, and some weeks playing 4 at the back.

Who would you have instead of Ramsey for 5.7?

          Keep Ramsey.

I've gone for him as his form is incredible. POTM for August, scored 4 goals & 1 assist in his last 4 games and Ozil is only going to help his cause.

No Arteta will strengthen the team and the defensive mids have a prob. when there Capt. returns. It has been a breakthrough season ( including end of last season) for Ram. but I feel even though he is better than (you know who) will now struggle for attacking points.

With bog eyes introduced I feel the majority of posters that say his presence will enhance Giroud and Walnuts are correct.

My front three at the moment is:

    Sturridge - Soldado - Lambert

Is it worth subbing any of those to get Giroud, or just wait a week and go from there? I just don't think Giroud is actually that good but as only Arsenal striker and wit service from Cazorla, Ozil and Wilshere he's bound to score some. houghts?

I'd probably sell Lambert. Osvaldo's arrival doesn't particularly affect Lambert's game time (in my opinion) but perhaps they'll be sharing the spoils a little more. Soldado's the lone striker for a side that will score more goals than Southampton.

Sturridge, Soldado and Giroud is a force to be reckoned with.

Eriksen will probably play centrally, if he's to be best utilized. I expect to roam a lot to be honest, with two relatively fixed central midfielders behind him.
He'll be on a lot of set pieces and carry's a decent goal threat, but he should get quite a few assists.
I don't think Lamela will do too much more than him this season, maybe in a year or two he'll score big but his returns this season should be relatively modest

I think there will be the usual unnecessarily gentle approach to a new signing, with him coming on for 15-20 mins at the end, as with Lamela last GW.

Then he'll start the week after.

Pretty pointless, and a nightmare in FF.

Everyone agrees he's top class (aside from Nate who says he's David Bentley v2.0). I'd stick him straight in the side if I were AVB. He's on my watchlist for now.

Andre Wisdom - a largely ignored WC prospect.

Demi says he'll play 4 games, maybe 6. Nate says he'll play one at best. Seems to be a great deal of doubt.

Is it not significant that Liverpool stopped Wisdom moving on loan when Johnson's injury issues surfaced? Apparently a move to Wigan was on the cards.

Surely Toure, lacking the pace he once had, wouldn't be selected ahead of Wisdom? And who is to say Sakho will definitely go straight into the starting line up?

At 4.4 he could be a very tasty buy, even if you end up dumping him come GW8/9.

The problem is both Wisdom and Kelly are primarily CBs. Both have played there at under-age for England, with Wisdom even captaining England at that level.
But because of Carra, Agger, Skrtel.. neither got a chance at CB in the first team. Injuries to GJ in the past afforded both to be blooded into the first team at RB.
Kelly looked sooo good before the major injury so he maybe eased back in.
I watch a lot (most) ( 🙁 ) of LFC u21/ reserve matches and I honestly can't seperate the two as CBs. But at RB I think Kelly looks much better, especially going forward.

Whoever starts Vs Swans, grab him @4.4.

      Sorry, no help whatsoever!

Not sure about Ozil over Walcott.

Getting Theo in would give you 0.5m to upgrade JWP to Redmond, who rotates very well with Brady.

Love the Bent pick. Thought about putting him in but just don't have the balls.

Won't give it a rating out of 10 as I think its impossible to get a 9 or 10 this early in the season, but I like it a lot.
