Scout Mission – Gameweek 29

There may only be five fixtures on the weekend agenda but, as always, there’s plenty for us to keep an eye on. United’s frustrated front man, the fitness of Fulham’s new Greek acquisition, the Stoke defence and the game time of a trio of midfield options will be keenly under observation:

Van Persie’s Performance
The popular belief is that the Dutchman is feeling fidgety. Certainly his post-match comments following the defeat to Olympiacos were not the words of a content striker – Van Persie venting his frustration and citing tactical naiveties as the cause behind his current inability to win matches for United. Fantasy managers have, somewhat reluctantly, been drawn to David Moyes’ charges this week due to their double fixture in Gameweek 31, with Van Persie currently sitting second in our Captain Poll. It remains to be seen if he can repay that faith with a Hawthorns points haul, though; we’ll be watching his level of performance and body language with great interest.

The Mitroglou Mystery
Konstantinos Mitroglou arrived at Craven Cottage in the form of his life, having scored 17 goals in 19 appearances for Olympiacos. With Fulham struggling to plug the gaps in defence, the Greek hitman looked key to their survival hopes by providing a cutting edge at the other end. Strangely, however, we’re yet to see him start a match. Felix Magath handed Mitroglou a debut from the bench against West Brom but, a week later, declared him unfit to feature against Chelsea. Later, the Fulham boss was to suggest that the Greek was already struggling to adapt to Premier League demands, hinting he was not yet up to speed with his new defensive responsibilities. So, is Mitroglou fit and available or is there more to this situation? His appearance for Greece last night would suggest the latter. Fulham fans will certainly be keen to see their would-be saviour unleashed on a leaky Cardiff defence, while Fantasy managers have yet to see if Mitroglou can emerge as an unlikely end of season differential.

Zaha’s Return to Bluebirds’ Lineup
A shift to 3-5-2 saw Wilfried Zaha excluded from Cardiff’s starting lineup at Spurs last weekend. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already revealed his “horses for courses” approach to team selection and while that may see the United loanee make way for tough away trips, he’ll surely be expected to earn a recall at home to Fulham – a must-win game for Solskjaer. Identified as a key figure only this week, the Bluebirds’ boss will likely look to Zaha to provide the spark – the moment of brilliance to light up what could be an edgy affair, littered with misplaced passes and defensive mishaps. Fantasy managers will be watching and waiting for an explosion of points from the winger – something to suggest he could yet figure in our seasons.

Puncheon’s Pitch Time
Charged and fined by the FA this week for comments made against Neil Warnock on Twitter, the Palace winger was strangely omitted from the match day squad for last weekend’s trip to Swansea. Tony Pulis reportedly indicated that the winger was rested – a strange decision given that Puncheon had looked by far Palace’s most threatening player in recent weeks. It remains to be seen if Pulis hands Puncheon a recall now that the FA charge is resolved. His absence against former club Southampton this weekend would suggest that there has been off-field issues that would force Puncheon’s Fantasy owners to plan an exit route.

The Canaries Recovery
Thrashed by the brute force and ruthless finishing of Christian Benteke, a bruised Norwich City will take to the Carrow Road turf to face Stoke in a must-win encounter. The pressure on Chris Hughton will be immense and he’ll be looking to an improved performance from a defence that has kept four consecutive clean sheets at home. Fantasy managers will have invested this week in the hope that the rearguard can recover, whilst Robert Snodgrass returned to training today after recovering from a wrist injury and will be expected to provide the creativity and dead-ball delivery to put Stoke to the sword.

Stoke’s Potential Without Adam
The loss of Charlie Adam to a three-match ban will sting the Potters and threatens to derail a recent recovery which has seen Mark Hughes’ men climb to giddy mid-table heights. Adam’s absence won’t be a major concern to us given that Fantasy managers are now unlikely to consider their attacking assets – it’s the defence that interests us. Stoke have some favourable fixtures to come, including a run of Britannia matches that offer strong potential for defensive returns. We’ll be watching to see how the rearguard repels a determined Norwich, with an eye on investment in the month ahead.

Eriksen’s Return and the 4-5-1
Ruled out with a back problem against Cardiff, Christian Eriksen could well return to the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge with Tim Sherwood expected to shift to a 4-5-1 against the league leaders. It’s a tricky scenario for the Spurs boss who will be reluctant to drop Roberto Soldado to the bench but, at the same time, mindful that Chelsea could dominate midfield areas. A like-for-like approach would seem sensible and, in Emmanuel Adebayor, Sherwood has a striker who can lead the line having scored superbly on his last trip to the Bridge.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What to do with my team for this week, only have 5 certain starters (+Snodgrass):

    BORUC
    AZPI (chester, williamson, kosc, coleman)
HAZARD (C), LALLANA, (snograss, adam, toure)
    ADE (suarez, sturridge)

I really could do with 1 more certain starter for this week?

Many in the same seat and my thinking is that you should save transfer. If you bring in someone and he get 2 points was it worth it ? save and next week start to load up on dgw players

I'd say you don't want to be hanging on to Adam for the next 3 games... I think I'd ditch him for a hit, maybe Kosc too.

Well, a way would be to loose Suarez and get Roo this week and then go Aguero next week.
Sounds stupid but bsre in mind thst Aguero has 2 matches up on Suarez, plus you get the points that Roo grts this week, So you gain 3 matches really with theese trades.
Loose Adam asap too to someone that playes this week and has 2 games next week.

Could sell Adam ..but then u cannot afford a player who has good dgw fixtures..

So acc to me ..best way to go is buy evra for koscielney..
Or better get a saints defender like chambers ..

So that u can use that money on upgrading Ade or Adam next weekend..

Saving a transfer would be a good thing ...

Make a transfer only if it helps Ur gw31 plans.

If I do Kos + Adam ---> Evra + £5.2m (with a game this week)

That would be -4 hit. However it wouldnt be a hit because both would get 2 points this week

I'm looking towards this as my DGW team for a -4pt hit:

    McGregor
    Baines / Coleman / Vidic / Collins
    Mata / Nolan / Sterling
    Suarez / RVP / Lukaku

    Cech / Routledge / Puncheon / Ward

No City players is risky but with all their games i'm not too confident on playing time for any of them. Also their fixutres aren't the best and I think it could be a worthy gamble.

There are a few players that may not be every bodys first choice such as RVP, Mata & Collins but I already own them so I think i'll stick with them and hope they prove to be decent differentials.

Baines, Sterling & Lukaku will be the players I will bring in. Any thoughts?

I'm considering doing the same, i.e. trying to ignore City players and going with RvP and Mata and a bigger defense at the expense of Yaya... it's hard though 😀 Risky. I agree their fixtures are less than inviting though.

I think all 3 are decent choices, but I'd have Sturridge over Lukaku any day of the week with the form he's in.

+100. Sturridge is nailed for starts and no fixture congestion, form of his life. Lukaku has the fixtures sure, but his role before the injury seemed VERY target man instead of ultra-poacher which is Sturridge's default setting.

Yeah for me it's basically A) Baines & AJ vs B) Chester & Yaya. RVP vs Aguero is also a valid concern, I'll have to assess them both this weekend and see how they look.

It depends what your situation is.

If you are like me (chasing an opponent) then maybe Baines/AJ is a risk worth taking with nice differentials.

If you are leading then I suppose having Yaya is covering bases.

Yeah, gotta look more into my opponent... he's currently leading by 21 points, so a differential or two would NOT hurt. He doesn't own Yaya ATM anyways, so I guess going without could make sense in terms of making up progress.

Starting to shift from the "overall rank!!1!!!" mode to "I gotta win this ML..."

Yeah it seems like almost certain he will do Ade to Aguero.

Aguero has good fixtures in (hul) & (FUL) and to an extent (man) although I do feel the Manchester derby that Man Utd will step up their game as they seem to have done against the best opposition this season. But I just don't know if Aguero is going to be guaranteed too much PL game time over these fixtures as he will be first choice to play the CL match against Barca, Man City's next FA cup game and the PL against Man Utd so could see a rest against Fulham which is the game you would want him for the most. Tough decision.

Yeah that's the problem, how much risk to throw into the differentials. Aguero might be one risk I can't afford to take, but I might be able to live without Yaya, especially if it doesn't seem like he'll be going for him.

I agree that Aguero has a lot of fixtures, but at the same time he's the main man and he hasn't had time to build up any fatigue since he's been on the sidelines for a while lately. Could of course work against him, but him starting the FA Cup game makes it seem as if they can't afford to ease him in at least.

Thanks for the input 🙂 Luckily I have a week or two to decide and analyze what my opponent does.

Big time! I won last year so I got a championship to retain.

This weekend I'm thinking Mirallas -> Sterling, just to freshen things up for the DGW and free up some cash. I've got 11 this GW, just minus GK which I won't change, also 2 FTs so need to do something. Mirallas seems a risk to keep with all midfielders fit at Everton.

Yeah I think that seems sensible. I can see his game time getting less and less now. What about getting in AJ now so you have him for the Cardiff fixture?

I was thinking RVP & Dann -> Aguero & Baines next GW, with AJ leaves me with 0.0M. Of course I could just do Ward instead of Dann out, not a huge problem.

AJ versus Cardiff is tempting, might be a better approach indeed 🙂 Then I can assess Sterling's gametime GW30.

Yeah they will in the overall..but I've got a chance this week to catch up in my mini league (80pts) with a rival who can't afford either..So I've chosen mini league over the overall and gone for RVP(c) this week, second best choice but he's stuck with Lambert and Ade with no money... Worry not though, it will be RVP> Aguero for the other doubles (I don't even think he'll have proper double this time)

    What are the chances that

Aguero: 15 goals, 9 assists from 12 appearances.

Yes he costs more. There is a very good reason for that too. If he gets injured then sell him. Cannot believe people want Lukaku in ahead of him, even if it's too get another big mid.

Price is a huge factor though (and the 2 fixtures + gametime). Its not just one big mid it allows, it potentially allows 3 better players.

I'll be getting Aguero, but if done logically, Lukaku is also a strong and sensible pick

I disagree given the tail off in form. Look at it another way, Aguero scores every 79.4 minutes, Lukaku scores every 161.4 minutes. Average them and you see that for every one goal Lukaku scores, Aguero scores too. Same with assists. Aguero nearly perfectly doubles Lukaku's output yet he's not twice the price, he's 1.5 times the price. So speaking from a finances set up Aguero is by far more sensible a pick. If there's a mid out there who scores as frequently as Kun that can only be afforded by owning Lukaku then that's fair but to my knowledge no midfielder is producing that output. Or striker for that matter.

Gerrard I would fancy to double Livermore's output, and Lukaku is going to increase in effectiveness as he has fantastic fixtures, agreed that earlier on in the season Kun would have been the automatic pick for anyone who wasn't an idiot, but it's not as clear cut now due to fixtures and Lukaku being Everton's only fit striker and Aguero is fighting it out with 3 of the league's better strikers.

You completely ignored the rotation risk factor.

I'm not saying its all about fixtures, its about form too, but both have been injured recently and therefore neither have any form?

No but for under 5m he is one of the best options unless I want to hope to get lucky with a punt on someone like Januzaj.

Aguero starts when he's fit. That is always the case. Even if he doesn't get whole games he will score better.

But you clearly are because that's the main point you go to, Lukaku's supposedly easy fixtures.

You go on whole season form as an indicator, Aguero is flawlessly consistent, Lukaku is frustrating.

That depends on how you choose to have your team, I have went cheaper in defence, 3 big mids and 3 big strikers. Since I started that formation I've moved up rankings considerably.

I've given my warning, you can make your own decision on it but don't buy Lukaku expecting big points is all I can say.

I'm not saying its all about fixtures, but it is quite heavily to do with fixtures when neither have played for the last month so either could come back in great OR terrible form, you never know with players coming back, althoughb agreed there is much more of a chance of Aguero coming back in good form than Lukaku, but Lukaku scored well last week in only 32 minutes (goal + 2 baps)

                  Lukaku's next 4 = CAR - SWA - new - ful
                  and Kun's next 4 = hul - FUL - mun - ars

I'll regret it if Lukaku does better as it would have been a good chance to gain an advantage over the thousands who will bring in Kun, and it might propel me up into the top 2 or 3 thousand rank, whereas if I lump for Aguero, I'll just be on a level par with everyone around me..

I'm going to go with Kun though, its just worth thinking about.

My point is, its not just one better player you get, its potentially 2 or 3. I'm going down the Aguero route as my team is set up to do so, but different set ups that have Lukaku instead may work.

Baines + Yaya + Sterling could be got over Zab + Silva + Livermore for example.

All are doublers, but the first 3 + Lukaku would look much stronger to me than the last 3 + Aguero. Especially as he won't be captain

Obviously these players could be switched to illustrate either side of the argument, but you get my drift, its not out and out a better choice to get Aguero. I think Aguero is the way to go, but its not as clear cut as you suggest

I think people are trying to make problems for themselves to be honest.

If I was to say you could get the best goal scorer in the league cheaper than you could get RVP or Suarez we both know it's clear cut. While a cheaper striker allows for a better mid you need to be assured that cheaper striker will do something. Lukaku, as it stand, is not that cheaper striker to have. Sure going by season performance he may only get 1 goal in his Dgw.

And that's well and good, if I had the time to analyse I would but I have a gut feeling that if you compare points per game/minutes (minutes tends to be memoir accurate) you may be surprised as to which side is really stronger. You must factor in other choices too as in Livermore/Zab/Silva wouldn't be the only combination.

People fancy Lukaku to be operating at a much better level over the next few fixtuyres though as he is playing against easier opposition and if he finishes this season like he did last season (playing for West Brom who are much worse than Everton and he wasn't the only striker, which he is now), then Lukaku + 4m could actually do far better.

I fancy Gerrard to MASSIVELY outscore Livermore, I'm not sure if it justifies going with Lukaku over Aguero but if Aguero didn't have 3 DGWs I would definitely be going down the Lukaku route.

Its not as easy as to just say "Aguero's better, get Aguero", you have to look at the big picture.

Issue is people are not looking at the big picture, see my post above for the timings it takes to score.

And as we're talking about looking at the big picture, a gigantic assumption that Lukaku will return to last season's form isn't really smart at all. Easy opponents, such as Fulham or Swansea, who he didn't score against when they played earlier in the season. In fact, he played against Fulham at their worst and managed an assist.

As for Gerrard, he'll outscore Livermore but you're robbing yourself of a captaincy option, you won't captain him or Lukaku. You would captain Aguero.

It's not as easy as deciding Lukaku will magically produce the same form, you have to look at the big picture.

Exact same could be said for Aguero in that you're assuming he'll get as many minutes as Lukaku even though they're (for the moment) still in all them competitions and there are 3 other strikers for Pellegrini to choose from.

I'm not assuming Lukaku will return to last season's form, but Everton are BEGGING for someone to put away all of the chances they're creating (Baines crossing, etc.).

I think both strikers are in for a great month but I wouldn't drop Suarez or Sturridge for them so we have to choose between the two (I much prefer Lukaku's potential to Remy's).

And I won't need another captaincy option with Suarez, Sturridge, Yaya, Gerrard, Lukaku, Hazard etc.

I'm not but even if he gets half the time Lukaku gets he'll outscore him if we continue in this trend.

Everton have been begging for that all season even when Lukaku has been playing and he's only managed 10 goals. If his form magically picks up I'd get him but not instead of Aguero, whose scoring times are better than both Suarez and Sturridge BTW.

              Very fair point.

I suppose the safest route is to go with Aguero and see how Lukaku fares, even if Lukaku does well in the short term while Kun comes back into the side, I know I will definitely want Aguero eventually and getting him now will save me decimating my team later on.

        He's getting Mata.

As for him being a season keeper, that's debatable if he continues on the wing, which is likely

I'd lose Caz myself - both have confirmed DGW31 btw.

Not Gerrard...check his points for the last nine, and then compare to YAYA'S last nine..and he gave a pen away to Sturridge.

Not a bad move, but not particularly great either. I know the emphasis is on getting doublers, but City defence is one I'd want to avoid as much as United's

Considered Williamson? Looks great for the double and has decent enough fixtures.

I wouldn't get a Hull lad unless you can bench him for most other weeks. Collins a good shout, but I'd get Demel for security

    What's the better GW31 team:

    MANNONE
    COLEMAN COLLINS Terry
    Hazard YAYA MATA AJ
    SUAREZ STURRIDGE LUKAKU

    Or:

    MANNONE
    Terry COLLINS COLEMAN
    Hazard YAYA Lallana STERLING
    SUAREZ STURRIDGE AGUERO

I would require an extra -4 to get the second team.

    Lukaku+Baines+Mata or Aguero+Nolan+Jagielka -4 (or other 6m max def) for gmw 31?

    Rest of the team is:

    Mannone
    Ivanovic Coleman ?
    ? Hazard Sterling Silva
    ? Suárez Sturridge

    Subs: Boruc, Vlaar, Chambers, Lallana

By DGW i'm going to have this team for no hits.

    Boruc (Davies*)

    KOMPANY* Ivanovic COLLINS DISTIN (Olsson)

    Hazard Lana YAYA

    SAS

Is it worth for a hit getting ZAB instead of Kompany and therefore get Mannone in for Davies with a hit.

2FTs this week - Kos to Olsson and Benteke to Rodriguez (giving 8-10 players this week).

Not seen too many gw31 teams going with 4 (or even 5!) at the back. Here's what I'm looking at for a -4:

    Mannone
    Coleman Williamson Vlaar Baines
    Mata Yaya Sterling
    Suarez RVP Aguero

Not sure I can justify another doubler for -4 over Vlaar. Bringing in Baines over Nolan and AJ
