The Weekend Team News

Seamus Coleman is expected to shrug off a knock as Everton entertain Palace. Ron Vlaar remains doubtful as Villa prepare for the visit of Arsenal. Danny Ings is ruled out of Burnley’s home clash with Sunderland, Jon Walters and Marko Arnautovic are doubts as Stoke travel to QPR, while Martin Skrtel is back as Liverpool roll up to West Ham.

Seamus Coleman was forced off with a knock in Everton’s win over Wolfsburg last night but Roberto Martinez is confident the right-back will recover in time for Sunday’s visit of Palace.

Callum Chambers has recovered from the illness that forced him out of the XI to face Dortmund, Arsene Wenger has confirmed. Mathieu Flamini is also available, whilst Jack Wilshere “is okay” after picking up an ankle problem during the 2-0 defeat. The Gunners boss has also revealed Mathieu Debuchy will be out for a minimum of six weeks with an ankle injury, though could be sidelined for three months if he requires surgery.

Jon Walters (calf) and Marko Arnautovic (foot) are both concerns for Stoke’s trip to QPR, Mark Hughes has confirmed. The former has only just returned to training after picking up a knock, though Stephen Ireland is pushing for a recall after recovering from a rib problem.

Harry Redknapp has revealed QPR have “a few knocks” ahead of the home clash against Stoke. Joey Barton (hamstring) and Jordon Mutch (knock) will continue to be assessed, though Adel Taarabt is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Ronald Koeman has revealed new signing Sadio Mane has finally received a work permit and will arrive in Southampton tomorrow, though is unlikely to be ready in time to face QPR. Shane Long has recovered from the knock that forced him off against Newcastle last weekend.

Danny Ings has been ruled out of Burnley’s home clash with sunderland this weekend, with manager Sean Dyche refusing to put a timescale on his return. Matty Taylor is unavailable for the second successive Gameweeks and joins long-term absentee Sam Vokes on the sidelines.

Villa skipper Ron Vlaar remains a major doubt for the visit of Arsenal due to a calf complaint. Christian Benteke has returned to light training but is believed to be weeks away from a return to first-team action as Paul Lambert looks to protect his star striker. Joe Cole is also back in training, though is “a little bit behind on fitness levels”, according to his manager.

Kasper Schmeichel is expected to recover from the minor knee problem that saw him miss last weekend’s trip to Stoke, while Matty James is also in contention after recovering from injury to feature for the Under-21s on Monday.

Martin Skrtel is back for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham, though Joe Allen is out “for a few weeks”, according to Brendan Rodgers. The Reds boss expects Daniel Sturridge to return to training next week, though young Jon Flanagan is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.

Sam Allardyce has confirmed he has the same squad that travelled to Hull on Monday, an indication that Joey O’Brien will miss out again as the Hammers play host to Liverpool.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

I think we may see this:

      Normal goalkeeper & defence.

      -Matic-
      -Ramires--Fab
      Willian-Costa-Hazard

        I suspect it could be:
        Matic, Ramires
        Oscar, Fab, Haz
        Costa….

Oscar in there to for his pressing game along with Ramires…the rest pick themselves really.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Are we wrong to never captain Baines? History has told us that Baines is a good player to own but handing him the armband is risky. A Palace goal this weekend and suddenly he looks a poor choice.

But are we wrong to dismiss such flair captaincy picks? This week sees Diego Costa visit Manchester City - this may be the first gameweek in a while where there is scope to take a risk with the armband.

If you were minded to take a risk with the captaincy this week who would be your armband differential?

I captained him once and he got a CS, assist and 3 bps.

Never been brave enough to do it again.

Last week was Pelle and it paid off...Baines is a good choice but yes risky...as a differential choice I'm thinking between Lamela and Welbeck..

I think this will be the week that Costa emerges as this season's Suarez - i.e., you always default to captaining him.

If he scores at the Etihad, presumably the toughest fixture of the season, then when would you NOT captain him? I personally hope he blanks so as to not make captaincy a default decision, but his personal stats & Man City's defensive stats do not support that.

Flair captain picks are a bad idea - too much risk in the most important weekly decision. Sure, sometimes you will get it right, but if you are serious about scoring well, you will always go with the safe, statistically optimal choice.

This week City defender pretty well. And 2 defeats and 1 draw in last 3 must have became much more serious. I don't they'll let Chelsea go through this week

      2. Pompel
        • 10 Years

Statistically, one would expect Spurs - WBA to be a higher score than City - Chelsea. So I'd say that this game wek Ade is more or less as safe a choice as Costa , but with a higher potential- but Rooney probably the safest.

Baines can have a great individual game and up on 5 points because of a defensive error by someone else
where as someone like Costa with a horror fixture , can have a horror game and end up on 6 points after a simple tap in

Even though they may score goals still less likely then a striker.

You're absolutely right Jonty -punt with your players, not your captain, they say - but this looks like one of the best weeks to go with a punty captain. Not me, of course - I mean other people.

Captaining someone playing Man City should count as a flair pick 😛

Taking risks with your captain are unnecessary, use the other 10 players for that imo

I have captained Baines many times with success, 9 Times last season out of which 6 times he got me 6 points or above including the 2 Fks against West ham.

Before that I captained him once against blackpool where he got 2 assists and his brace against West Brom

Think I'm down to these 2 options - votes please fellas! 🙂

    (A) GW5: Save
GW6: Assess best route to get Costa with 2 freebies

    (B) GW5: Terry -> Betrand
    GW6: Bony & Ade -> Costa & Pelle (4 points)

    (A) avoids a hit and gives extra flexibility to tweak how I get Costa next week, but the transfers in (B) seem to make a lot of sense given form and fixtures.

    Krul
    Terry, Clyne, Chambers
    Sanchez, Hazard, Ramsey, Siggy
    Rooney, Ade, Bony

    Elliot, Hutton, Wisdom, Albrighton
    Bank 0.0m, 1 freebie

I've used my FT already but is it worth taking a -4pt hit with either 1) Zaha > Chadli or 2) Balotelli > Adebayor?

Yea Ballo hasn't impressed me at all yet. Looks like his regular lazy self.
But will Adebayor get 4 more points as both could score this weekend?

Zaha I can leave on my bench as my starting XI looks ok (albeit with Ballo!)

I also wouldn't be surprised if Lambert gets the nod over Ballo this weekend.

Nah. Think it'll be Borini and Balo up top with Sterling in the hole.

I'll give him 1 more week and ship him if he blanks v WHU

Rooney if you want to play it safe but Adebayor because in my opinion Adebayor will start his scoring spree again this week.

Have both , leaning on Adebayor. Rooney maybe the safer choice, but I think he'll only get one score ore assist, while Adebayor may blank or get a brace + assist. I'm thinking, although Adebayor is unreliable, the Spurs midfield looks dangerous this season, and his returns will benefit from that.

    6. Pasqualinho

Rooney is safer because he'll be the most popular choice - but Ade has the bigger upside, I think. If I had both heart would say Ade, head would say Rooney.

I don't think Rooney will score that big against Leicester, hence not that much to loose if Ade (C) punt fails.

No questioning Di Maria is one of the most popular picks at the moment but I just run a comparison with Hererra in the comparison tool and Hererra completely wipes the floor across pretty much all stats.

Is Hererra a worthy alternative to the masses?

I think watching is the most prudent move for now. If Herrera occupies similar areas and gets a number of chances again this weekend, I'll probably get him. (Slight bias though as I think he's a f**king excellent footballer.)
