The Weekend Team News

Laurent Koscielny is ruled out for Arsenal. Ross Barkley is nearing a return for Everton. West Ham welcome back Mark Noble against Burnley, who are boosted by the availability of Danny Ings and Kieran Trippier. Fabian Delph emerges as a doubt for Villa, but Ron Vlaar is fit again. Mame Diouf and Victor Moses return to training for Stoke, while Hugo Lloris and Nacer Chadli remain doubts for Spurs.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Seamus Coleman, Steven Pienaar and James McCarthy are all “very close to being available” for the weekend, having missed recent outings through injury. The Everton boss also delivered positive news on Ross Barkley confirming the youngster had “reacted really well” in training following a serious knee injury, though admits it’s too early to tell if Barkley will be involved against Aston Villa.

Laurent Koscielny has added to Arsenal’s injury concerns ahead of the home clash with Hull. Arsene Wenger confirmed that the defender won’t be in contention tomorrow but revealed he won’t need surgery on his troublesome Achilles. Elsewhere, Aaron Ramsey is expected to return for Champions League duties in midweek, Mikel Arteta is available once again, while Tomas Rosicky “should be available” after sustaining a knock on international duties. Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry have both made a return to full training following long-term injuries, though Wenger has quashed suggestions that either player could be available for the Tigers clash.

West Ham are set to be boosted by the return of Mark Noble from a calf injury. The midfielder has “trained most of this week, so he should be fine”, according to Sam Allardyce. Enner Valencia returned late from international duty and will be monitored, though Allardyce expects the forward to be fine to play against Burnley.

Sean Dyche has confirmed that David Jones, Kieran Trippier, Danny Ings and Nathaniel Chalobah are all in contention for the weekend after recovering from recent injuries. Midfielder Dean Marney remains “touch and go”, while the Clarets Michael Keane (knee) will be assessed and Steven Reid misses out with a minor groin problem.

Villa’s Ron Vlaar is available once again after recovering from a calf injury, though Paul Lambert has revealed that Philippe Senderos is a doubt with a thigh strain. Midfielder Fabian Delph injured his shoulder during the week and is also doubtful for the Toffees clash, though the Villa boss could welcome back Christian Benteke to the starting XI. When pressed on the Belgian’s starting prospects, Lambert revealed that Benteke is “in the squad, and there’s a good chance.”

Alan Pardew has quelled fears that Tim Krul could be sidelined for a period of time with a shoulder problem, by revealing that the Dutch stopper is fit to face Leicester this weekend. Full-backs Daryl Janmaat and Paul Dummett will also be available after recovering from their respective knocks. Meanwhile, the Magpies boss confirmed Gabriel Obertan will retain his place in the starting XI against the Foxes.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Victor Moses and Mame Biram Diouf should both be fit for the weekend, following recent thigh and hamstring problems respectively. Glenn Whelan though, has emerged as a doubt after coming off against Germany in midweek with a knee problem.

Nacer Chadli (hip) and Hugo Lloris (groin) are Mauricio Pochettino’s main injury concerns ahead of the early Saturday kick-off at the Etihad. Emmanuel Adebayor and Nabil Bentaleb are likely to be monitored, having not yet returned from their midweek international trips.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

Pelle is the best differential. Depends what you want. Certainly him or Aguero for me from that list. Both could get hat tricks.

      I'm on Pelle too...

Think this is the week worth taking a risk for.

Aguero in the early KO against a completely different Tottenham side to the one last season (this won't be 6-0).
Costa away at Palace, where they lost 1-0 last season.
Di Maria away at WBA... Risky, IMO...

If I put Baines in, I'm even tempted to captain him!!

Sorry. Just one of the biggest misunderstandings ever, that which other players you play (f.ex. a striker from one team and the opposing keeper) is at all relevant. It is not. They have their own separate expected average point scores, i.e. not related to each other. If you _think_ PVA will concede a lot, well, then you play someone else. But that is a different matter entirely.

It is ... not a matter of disagreement though. Like disagreeing that 2 + 2 = 4, to put it in very banal terms.

The execption I guess is very close to the season's end, when you are either far behind or far ahead, and want to secure a safe score or go for a potential superscore. Then you can increase variance by playing like six players in the same match

You are obviously playing it well.

This is a game of forecasting probabilities and technically Reinhold is right in that individual player's scores are independent events and not mutually exclusive. Simplest example is PVA also getting clean sheet points in a nil all.

The theory doesn't hold as strong in a defender vs striker pick though which is a statistical argument not worth getting into.

in the comparison tool Vardy only has 2 assists the past 3 games.. Opta may not count them as assists but fpl does and it kinda skews the comparison tool. is it possible to probably adjust the figures? for eg it would give him 11 chances created instead of 8 and 5 assists in the last 3 games. Applies to other strikers as well who've created deflected chances and won penos

Looks good to go this week

in terms of changes I'd look at changing out Krul but that's it. Newcastle defence is very dodgy.

I like the Robertson pick but Hull let in so many. Maybe next GW look at upgrading Robertson for Chambers for 0.1m.

Falcao to Sturridge as a differential maybe?

    Which is best?

    A)
    Foster
    Clyne - Ivanovic - Duff [Wisdom/Targett]
Fabrgeas - Sterling - Siggy - Di Maria [Jedinak]
    Costa - Welbeck - Aguero

    B)
    Foster
    Clyne - Ivanovic - Baines [Hutton][Moore]
Fabregas - Downing - Siggy - Di Maria [Overtan]
    Costa - Welbeck - Aguero

Basically removing Sterling for Downing allows me to bring in Baines and a stronger backup defense. Also gives me 0.3m ITB

        yeah that fits

        Foster
        Clyne - Ivanovic - Baines [Wisdom/Hutton]
Fabregas - Siggy - Henderson - Di Maria [Obertan]
        Costa - Welbeck - Augero

Siggy in superb form. Bony was very threatening in the last game. Dyer and Routledge have also done well. They create chances. The same cann't be said about the Stoke attack.

I think if you see how it works in almost every other league in the world - i.e. players play against parent clubs without any problems at all, then you might reconsider.

I think a player should just either be able top represent the club or not, no middle ground, otherwise you start to skew aspects of the league in questions.

I like the rule as it simplifies things. I like the lack of Middle ground. I like the fact that it means there can be no annoying press fever stories if the player makes a mistake. There are rules I disagree with but this one is not worth the effort. Harmless.

    Hello all

Back from my international break, and nothing has changed. the market is really quiet this year. Personally I think that FPL have screwed this up this year -- they've overcompensated after last year. This year I've been able to ignore the market completely and just focus on who to take out and who to bring in... on the other hand, I'm still as sh1t as I was last year.

Anyway, this is the week for my dalliance with baines.

  23. thes7s

    Why buyinh Baines?
My view on Baines has always been the same I count him as an extra mid so I'm playing technically 2-5-3, Baines is a mid price midfielder to me. I have him and Siggy and I'm considering Chadli as well. When Baines gets a CS, I think of it as extra 4 points for him with a huge chance of extra bonus points.

Slightly better than Noble with goal threat (2 more)
He also gets more points for his goals and is more likely to get bonus points..
Plus wouldn't you pay a premium to get an extra midfielder's slot?

noble was a dodgy example (was a set-piece taker point).
basically paying 7mil for a mid that gets about 5 goals 5 assists a season is poor business. he should always be treated as a defender, you dont see ivanovic, coleman, kolarov etc labelled 6th midfielders

          3. thes7s
            • 10 Years
            9 years, 7 months ago

You are restricted to 5 mids, Aren't you? I wouldn't waste a mid position to get Noble or Tadic but when it comes to Baines I'd always rather have him than having Cahill/Terry/Mert/Kos they are at 6.5 and CS chances are just slightly higher than Everton's with lesser attacking returns.

      2. thes7s

His defensive returns are irrelevant, that GW when he gets 1 or 2 points are as bad as when any midfielder fails to deliver.
