KPI Analysis – Defenders, Last Four Gameweeks

Having previously assessed the form of forwards and midfielders across the last four Gameweeks, our third Key Performance Indicator (KPI) article of the international break casts an eye over the defenders.

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables use a series of key stats to allow our members to track a trend in player performance as a guide to their form. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics, such as minutes per chance, and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain patterns of improvement or decline in these areas. For those unfamiliar, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

    If Tommy J is still about, I just replied some extra info on your previous post re using bets at short odds to cash out a win.

    You need to check your Terms as most betting companies do NOT include the free bet stake in any returns which renders placing any free bets at very short odds absolutely pointless.

    Hey guys, with all the talk about which Chelsea defender to get, I've gone and worked out the up-to-date baseline BPS/min for their back 4.

    Azpilicueta = 0.190
    Terry = 0.163
    Ivanovic = 0.151
    Cahill = 0.148

    Very little has changed - Azpi is still the BPS magnet he was earlier in the season. He has received bonus points in every match this season where Chelsea have kept a clean sheet - that's a real eye-opening statistic imo and this data just highlights his value. He's clearly the boring pick but sometimes boring is the right pick, and this looks like one of those occasions.

    opting to avoid the austin bandwagon (trap? I mean seriously qpr striker lol) and loking at the following options to replace welbeck with
    A) coleman, funded by welbz to kane
    B) bony, funded by clyne to yun

    Which is stronger?

    Krul/guzan
    Baines COLEMAN azpi (chambers wisdom)
    Sanchez haz sig downing (boyd)
    Aguero costa KANE

    Or

    Krul/guzan
    Baines azpi chambers (YUN wisdom)
    Sanchez haz sig downing (boyd)
    Aguero costa BONY

    Funnily enough chambers rotates perfectly with kane and yun in both cases

    Help! 2FTs, 0.0m in the bank. Should I wildcard with all of the doubts in my team?

    Forster - Foster
    Baines - Chambers - PvA - Wisdom - Saylor
    Fabregas - Sterling - Tadic - Siggy - Marney
    Aguero - Costa - Pelle

      Maybe use 1FT to bring a defender this week.
      You've got a few players on 4 yellows so might be useful to roll over your second freebie.

      No need to panic and WC.

    Seen a fair few asking if Courtois is a good option. At 6m he's on a par with Azpil and is unlikely to be rotated, so what's not to like? Beyond the baps, assists issue, there's some additional points to consider:

    1) You can't have a non-playing Chelsea keeper alongside Courtois. Unlike Krul and Elliot, valued at 8.5m, Courtois and Cech come in at a whopping 11.6m AND use up 2 Chelsea places. Therefore, in case of injury, you must have a playing keeper from another team. This costs a minimum of 10.5m, which is not money well spent as I'll show next.

    2) The back-up keeper won't be selected ahead of Courtois. Chelsea have, on paper, already played most of their tougher fixtures this season (ManC, Liv and ManU away) so when, if ever, would you play a 4.5m keeper ahead of Courtois? I'd wager unlikely, which means your second keeper is essentially 4.5m perma-benched. Would you rather have a 4m or 4.5m defender in your squad, if you were unlikely to ever play them? 4m surely! With Azpil you can have the likes of Yun, Duff etc as perma-benched defenders, which saves upto 0.6m

    Hope this makes sense 🙂

    2FT

    a) Clyne + Tadic > Azpilcueta + Hazard

    b) Tadic + Pelle > Hazard + Austin

    c) Clyne + Tadic + Pelle > Ivanovic + Oscar + Austin (-4)

    d) Clyne + Tadic + Pelle > Azpilcueta + Hazard + Austin (-4)

    I'll never understand why people opt for expensive keepers.

    Last season:
    Cech: 3060 mins, 16 CS, 82 saves -> 146 points
    Mannone: 2568 mins, 11 CS, 131 saves -> 134 points

    Pointe per 90 minutes:
    Cech = 4.29
    Mannone = 4.70

    I know Mannone was quite an extreme case as he made a huge amount of saves but he had a higher points/90m than Cech and also came in at 1.5m (or was it 2m?) cheaper. Save points really add up...
